On October 26, 2012, the Department of Veterans Affairs celebrated its 20 millionth home loan in Woodbridge, Virginia at the home of Mrs. Elizabeth Carpenter, widow of CPT Matthew Carpenter, who passed away in 2010. VA’s Home Loan Guaranty Program started in 1944 when President Roosevelt signed the GI Bill of Rights. Now, 68 years later, VA remains as the largest no down payment program in the nation. So for most of us, Applying, qualifying then securing a home loan from a bank or lending institution is typically the way one goes about purchasing a home or property.
To qualify for a home loan, the lender usually reviews the borrowers credit history, sources of income and collateral. Once reviewed the bank provides you with a loan amount you are capable of repaying.
Once you purchase your property, you are expected to pay back over a period of time the original amount of the loan plus interest. In the end , you get to keep the property which can be later sold for a profit or as an inheritance.
