This is my version of sambal cockles after eating them in KL, West Malaysia. Really, this turned out to be pretty good. I had used some of the pre-prepared sambal blachan that ER and I cooked for “popiah” lunch.

From Sew Pretty Homestyle

book

ER made use of some remaining radish cake to cook this meal. Yummy! This was different from hawkers’…more ingredients were used to prepare the radish cake and no chopped preserved radish was added.

A quick meal created from the bacon and turkey breast that Rika bought from the supermarket~

These are made from a pattern using the Tilda range of books by Tone Finnager, I just love her country inspired things and everything in the book has a free pattern! These adorable little houses are from the Sew Sunny Homestyle book - well worth a look!

These beancurd/tofu puffs are light and spongy.

I used them for "stuffed beancurd puffs". These are also commonly used in laksa/curry noodles, "rojak" and "kway chap", local dishes in SG.

"All houses wherein men have lived and died

Are haunted houses. Through the open doors

The harmless phantoms on their errands glide,

With feet that make no sound upon the floors".

Batch cooking some homestyle chicken curry.

I have been adding one or two more spices into this dish and the sugar was caramelized [not brown]. The taste was right.

Ropa vieja (ENG: "old clothes") is a dish with regional variations in Latin America, the Philippines, and Spain.

It normally includes some form of stewed beef and tomatoes with a sofrito base.

Originating in Spain, it is known today as one of the national dishes of Cuba.

The name "ropa vieja" (ENG: "old clothes") vieja probably originates from the fact that it was often prepared using food left over from other meals, like the Madrilenian Stew.

Although, it has been suggested that the name comes from the "tattered appearance" of the meat.

The dish's origins appear to have first arisen among the Sephardic Jews, originally from the Iberian Peninsula, as a slow-cooked stew that was prepared to be eaten over the course of a traditionally observed Shabbat, a kind of cholent called "handrajos" (similar to the Spanish word "andrajos").

Eventually this dish spread to North Africa and to the Canary Islands of Spain.

The dish is believed to have been brought to the Americas by immigrants from the Canary Islands and was first reported to have been cooked in Cuba in 1857, but today is well known as a Cuban national dish. (Source: Wikipedia)

ROPA VIEJA, 2025

(Fuente: Wikipedia)
