Tootsie is a very special cat, who's cry for help came through Vermilion Rabies Control. A family found a Calico cat hanging around the house they had just moved into. Nobody in the neighborhood wanted to have anything to do with her, or even know her. But, Tootsie didn't give up. Instead, she showed up at their house every day. Maybe the people she belonged to had just moved and left her behind? Finally the new people brought her to the shelter. They liked her, but didn't want to take care of her injured leg. It looked like an old injury and she was now walking on her wrist. So one of our fosters, Barbara, took her and went straight to the vet. As it was thought, the leg would have to be amputated, which our vet has since done. But, then came the real blow - she also tested positive for Feline Leukemia. This special girl is so friendly, and already spayed, so she had to have been someone's pet. For some people her FeLV+ status would mean putting her down. But, this cat was so sweet and appeared so healthy. Her foster Mom really wanted to give her a chance.
Tootsie has been accepted into the Home For Life Feline Leukemia Sanctuary. We are currently raising funds to purchase a special crate, and a plane ticket, to send her to Home For Life. www.homeforlife.org/

Snowbell was found wandering in a neighborhood, when one of our volunteers was contacted about him. This cat was very friendly. But, he seemed to have been in a fight. Or, so we thought, because his nose was very raw and bloody. When he was approached he came right away and really enjoyed the attention. The sad thing was that this cat is blind, and he was apparently dropped off in a place that he was not familiar with. Because of the unfamiliar surroundings, his bloody nose was due to him running into things. Off to the vet he went - then the news came that he tested positive for FIV. Some would think that is two strikes against him. But to us his life is worth saving!

Isn't this guy adorable? He reminds me of the tramp in Lady and the Tramp. He's one of the many dogs who I snapped a photo of today at Home for Life in Wisconsin. What is Home for Life, you ask? It's a "long-term animal sanctuary." They take care of many animals that are not adoptable due to health reasons, age or handicap. These animals are not up for adoption, but rather they are cared for here for as long as they live.So what was I doing out there? The way they work is that people can "sponsor" an animal with financial donations to help pay for their food and medical treatments. These sponsors get updates through newsletters and photos of their animals (and that's where I came in). I was there today for about 3.5 hours and I shot portraits of about 125 animals (and yes, I am exhausted). I'll return later this week to finish up and shoot maybe 100 more. And no, I wasn't taking photos of all of the animals there -- only the ones that needed fresh portraits. Yeah. So they help a LOT of animals. What a great idea!
Your first home is usually a case of tweaking an existing design or even just moving into a prebuilt home. In your ‘home for life’ you are much more aware of options because you have seen them, touched them, and smelled them. It maybe that you love the kitchen design in a friend’s house or something you see on a home show on television. Your home Fraser Coast for life will usually involve some good meaningful discussions with your builder on exactly what you want.

The poor guy on the right is missing both eyes. He still manages to get around just fine, though. :)
