In this image, we can see there is a good amount of heat coming out of the ventilation from the attic. Since it was nighttime and there was no thermal interference we know it was coming from a poorly insulated ceiling. The heat on the chimney is fron the exhaust of the furnace.

The 1950's aluminum framed sliding patio door isn't doing this homeowner any energy favors. They replaced all the windows in the house with the exception of this sliding door. The homeowner now has the ammunition to pull the trigger on a new patio door.

In this image you can actually see the grade outside through the basement walls. This was a fairly new home with a walk out basement (right of the picture). The homeowner now knows why their living room is always so cold.

Here is a good example of a plumbing chase open from the basement to the attic. You can see where heat is escaping right into the unconditioned attic.

In this image, you can see a gaping hole in the insulation that would have never been seen by the homeowner. The guess is that there was an animal living in this space.

For a satisfying stay in the home, there is a need for the home energy to work efficiently. Imagine your home to be warm and comfortable. Most people are faced with high electrical bills.

This image shows a great example of what I call nickel and dime energy leaks. They make foam insulators to help insulate outlets.

Here is a great example of why you should insulate your basement or foundation walls. This was a 1950's atomic ranch in Madeira, Ohio just outside Cincinnati. The home sat on a crawl space that was uninsulated. Its no wonder the floor was freezing cold.

This image shows fairly obviously that the windows are bleeding energy. But also note the chimney heating up even though there was no fire in the fireplace. The homeowner now knows there is lots of heat escaping and they need to seal up the fireplace.

In this 1950's ranch home you can clearly see the difficulty the insulators had getting to the eves with the low roof line. This is fairly common in older ranches.

This is one energy information display that consumers can use to conserve energy and lower their bills.

Energy information displays monitor and depict home energy usage and efficiency, and are expected by Pike Research to be commonplace in American homes by 2015.

In this image you are looking at a window that use to be a doorway. During the remodeling job the contractor did not seal the toe kick very well allowing the outside air to stream into the home.

This image shows an older home in Hyde Park Cincinnati, Ohio. The older leaded glass window sure looks nice, but is leaking energy 27/7.

These are all the power bricks under my desk. You can see that even though the computers are not running that the power bricks still suck energy. Thats why its called vampire power or stand by power.

Scanning the outside of this newer brick home, we found an apparent HVAC duct leak showing up on the outside.

In this 1970's home in Wyoming, Ohio just outside Cincinnati, you can see there is no seal or insulation around the windows. Therefore outside air streams in past the windows.

In this older Victorian in Northern Kentucky, you can clearly see the radiant heater in this breakfast nook. This is why it makes sense to install radiant reflectors.

Because wood has poorer thermal barrier properties than insulation, the thermal camera can pinpoint where the framing studs are.

In this image you can see my cold beer next to my warm monitor across from my blazing hot laptop. Time to turn off the computers and pick up the beer. ; )
