Who is Sri Vakrathunda Ganapathi?
Sri Vakrathunda Ganapathi is another divine form of Lord Ganesha, called as ‘Curved-trunk Ganapathi’. In Mudgala Purana, Sri Vakrathunda Ganapathi form is represented as the incarnation taken to destroy demon called Matsaryāsura (envy, jealousy), also this form considered as the absolute, embodies the formless spirit of Universe or Brahman. His mount (vehicle/vahana) is lion. In this form Sri Vakratunda Ganapathi is four armed with right hand holds goad and left hand with noose. The other two hands have gesture of wish-granting (other right hand) and gesture of protection (other left hand).
As per the Mudgala purana, Sri Vakrathunda Ganapathi is samhara moorthi (slayer) of demon Matsaryāsura, who came into being when Indra, king of the Gods, once lapsed into absent-mindedness. Performing austere penances to Shiva won Matsaryasura the boon of fearlessness. He soon brought all the gods, including mighty Shiva, to their knees. Dattatreya, the unified form of the Holy Trinity, advised them to invoke Vaktratunda and divulged to them, the powerful seed mantra ‘Gam’. Their penance bore fruit – Sri Vakrathunda Ganapathi appeared seated on a lion and defeated Matsaryasura.

Vivaha Homam. For this part of the Hindu wedding ritual, the great messenger of the Gods, Agnideva the fire God, is evoked to witness the ceremony.
