This is the Jan Waaijerbrug in Zoetermeer. The bicycle and pedestrian bridge connects the existing Westerpark with a future park in the new Driemanspolder. The architect, Syb van Breda, used the Dutch painting “Het laantje van Middelharnis” (1689) by Meindert Hobbema as an important source of inspiration. This can be traced back to the modern streetlight, which resemble the trees in this painting. “Both in the painting and from the bridge, the surrounding landscape is observed from a 'room', which is defined by slender trees”.
The bridge is a regional hub of a collection of long-distance cycling routes. The dominant straight polder axis between Delft and the Groene Hart, are combined with the meandering lines between the dunes and Midden Delfland. The merge into an elegant rotationally symmetrical crossing.
On June 2014, the biennial Gemma Smid Architecture Award, for the most appreciated new construction project in Zoetermeer, was awarded to the Jan Waaijer Bridge.
The construction consists of corten steel, which can be recycled after the estimated life of one hundred years. No paint or other contaminants have been used.

This is single shot long exposure taken at 100ISO, f22 (just to prolong the exposure time), 20 secs and with 10mils on the camera. I used a 10 stop filter. Due to the bright light I still could go beyond 20 secs.
Post-production was executed with Lightroom CC. I used several (inverted) radial filters, adjustment brushes and graduated filters. The latter addresses primarily the toning of the sky and clouds. Finally, I added some copyright signs (in PS). The latter is, alas, there to stay due to the fact that my photos were frequently copied. So, don't bother commenting on that.

The Netherlands is a small country of 16 million people, but it boasts a quarter of a million competitive speedskaters, and millions more who skate for fun. What's the story? Natural ice in the Netherlands is a rare occurrence. In fact, some winters there's no natural ice at all. Maybe that explains why the Dutch love to skate outdoors. They hardly ever get the chance! But when a cold wave hits, and the interconnected maze of canals, rivers and lakes freeze over, it's a spontaneous celebration, a national holiday. Today same as last year we could ice skating on the Gouwsea. Ice skating can be done from Monnickendam to Marken and from Marken to Volendam. Infinite sea of ice is perfect for ice skating journeys. Besides ice skating Dutch also love Ice yachting. This is the sport of sailing and racing iceboats and is very popular in the Netherlands. Ice boats are racing at a speed of 100 km an hour over the ice of the Gouwsea.
Photo taken of Ice yachting on the Gouwsea at Monnickendam. A get together of ice sailors at Marken. A historical moment since crossing the Gouwsea by skates is such a rare occurrence. Crossing this Gouwzee was last possible in 2009 and 1996. Today 13 February 2010, I skate from Monnickendam - Marken - Volendam and back to Monnickendam a round-trip of 16km, such a beautiful sea of ice to enjoy. For the ice-yacht sailors it's always a race who will cross the Gouwsea first to Marken. When the first Ice-boats tested and crossed the Gouwsea the skaters will follow soon.

Monnickendam is a very nice smaller city at the IJsselmeer, it is one of the ice sailing centres since the 19th century where the traditional fleet is still active. The Netherlands is the best location at this moment. Champions league are helt on February 22-26. So far there are teams from Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Russia, Estonia and Poland. The World Championships, as well as European Cup and Baltic Cup are held this week in the Netherlands, at the Gouwzee, Monnickendam. Black Ice, no snow, minimum 16 cm ice and the weatherforecast is that it keeps freezing the coming days. We already have sailed a regatta with monotypes in the Netherlands and on the Gouwzee they have been icesailing every day since January 2nd. Iceboating when it is at the very BEST. The Monotype-XV iceyacht is the only 2-seated iceyacht in Europe today that regulary arrange European Championship. Maximal speed is 130-150 km/h.
Photo taken at the Gouwsea - Netherlands. A traditional ice-yacht among all new ice-boats. On 22th of Februari 2010 the World Championships Ice yachting will be held in Monnickendam. Althought the temperature is above zero degrees Celcius the ice is still thick enough.
Deelnemende landen zijn o.a.

It is assumed that Gorinchem or Gorkum was founded circa 1000 CE by fishermen and farmers on the raised land near the mouth of the river Linge at the Merwede. "Goriks Heem" (Home of Gorik) is first mentioned in a document from 1224 in which Floris IV granted people from Gorinchem exemption of toll payments throughout Holland.
Somewhere between 1247 and 1267, Gorinchem became property of the Lords of Arkel. At the end of the 13th century earthen mounts reinforced with palisades were built around the settlement to protect it from domination by the neighbouring counties of Holland and Gelre. Half a century later real city walls were built complete with 7 gates and 23 watchtowers. Otto van Arkel granted it city rights on 11 November 1322.

The Mauritshuis (officially called the Royal Cabinet of Paintings Mauritshuis) has been a well-known museum in The Hague since 1822. The collection mainly includes paintings from the Golden Age. The permanent collection comprises of “Girl with a Pearl Earring” of Johannes Vermeer, “The Goldfinch” of Carel Fabritius, “The Young Bull” of Paulus Potter and “The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp” by Rembrandt van Rijn.
The Mauritshuis is originally a city palace, built for Johan Maurits, Count of Nassau-Siegen in the 17th century. The architecture of the building designed by Jacob van Campen and his assistant Pieter Post, has been followed many times. It was built between 1633 and 1644. The construction took such a long time because Johan Maurits went to Brazil in 1636 for a period of more than seven years and so there was no rush.
The interior of the house was divided with two apartments. One on the left and one on the right. At the rear, overlooking the courtyard pond, a large hall was placed on the ground floor and the first floor. Originally the room contained above an internal dome.
Before Maurits returned from Brazil he had already sent tropical wood to The Hague for the staircase. He himself took all kinds of valuables such as skins, Indian weapons, corals, stuffed animals and paintings with Brazilian subjects (slaves, plants, villages). These were hung in the vestibule and the stairwell.
Family portraits arrived in the large room at the back of the house. In the hall on the first floor he hung portraits of members of royal houses. His bedroom and office were on the first floor looking left at the court pond. In his work room, paintings hung on the independence struggle of the Republic of the Seven United Netherlands against the Spaniards. In his bedroom was a bust of the Prince of Brandenburg, his employer as stadholder of Cleves.

This panorama consists of 14 handheld (portrait) photos shot in one row. The initial merge was done by using PS CC. Afterwards, in post-production, the warp tool was used to compensate for big distortions. Taking pano’s in rather confined rooms is always a bit challenging with regards to the flow of lines and linear structures within the room.
Further post-production included colour toning and enhancing the vibrance a little, balancing the light by using the curves tool (due to the extensive system of lights), reducing the high ISO noise a little (let’s say with 10%) and cropping. Finally, I added the copyright watermark. The latter is, alas, there to stay due to the frequent copying of my photos. So, don't bother commenting on that.

Still life "In Grandpa's barn" - to me this photo symbolises life at Goeree-Overflakkee. The pure simplicity, the somewhat sober colours, the close-knit community on an island. It also shows how close the older generation are to nature and basic life. It's maybe that what makes the people at Goeree-Overflakkee special, you just have to learn to see where the real beauty lies.
.
I found this on the table in Grandpa's shed, artfully viewed you see the classical painting style such as the still lifes of the "Hollandsche Meesters". It was irresistible to photograph this one quickly, to see how close I could get to a "Dutch Master" still life in Grandpa's barn.

In the exhibition “Jan Steen’s Histories”, the Dutch Mauritshuis or Maurits Museum exhibits a selection of Jan Steen’s finest historic paintings. This seventeenth-century Dutch painter is best known for his paintings of chaotic and disorderly scenes of everyday life. This gave rise to the popular Dutch proverb ‘a Jan Steen household’. But he also painted very different subjects; like stories from the Bible, classical mythology and antiquity. From 15 February until 13 May 2018, the exhibition shows – by means of twenty-one paintings – that Steen was a versatile and ambitious painter with a keen eye for amusing stories and anecdotes.
This painting is “The Wrath of Ahasuerus” by Jan Steen (Leiden, Holland, about 1671-3 and painted with oil on canvas). You see King Ahasuerus rising up in fury as his wife Esther reveals the treachery of his chief minister Haman, who cringes to the left. According to the Bible (Esther 7:1-7), Haman plotted to massacre the Jews in the Persian empire. Queen Esther summoned the two men to a banquet where she revealed the plot and her own Jewish identity. The King’s violent reaction overthrows a vase and a peacock pie; the symbol of Haman’s fallen pride.
On the right you can see a different version of the same scene. Steen painted 5 different painting. This painting is part of the collection of Museum Bredieus in The Hague, The Netherlands.
The painting (129 x 167 cm) is since 1939 part of the permanent collection of The Barber Institute of Fine Arts in Birmingham.

I shot this photo with the X-T2 as this camera is capable to handle low light situation very well. The image had relatively little noise. I shot it at F4.0, 1/60th , -2/3 stops due to the lighting on the painting and at 8000 ISO. Post-production was quick and rather simple compared to other photo in mu stream. A bit of colour toning. Balancing the light across the image lightly. Cropping it a bit and leveling the painting’ frame. I held the camera well above my head. So, that gives you not so much control in a situation in which I would have used the EVF. Finally, I added the copyright watermark. The latter is, alas, there to stay due to the frequent copying of my photos. So, don't bother commenting on that.
