After a 6 inch snow storm hit the Chicago area, I was lucky enough to be at the zoo and take some wonderful snow shots.
she moves like a shadow through the glow of december, her heels tapping softly against the wet cobblestones. christmas lights rise like golden flames against the dark, angels frozen mid-flight, tangled in wires and light. the air smells faintly of rain and warm electricity, the kind that hums through crowded streets late at night. she pulls her red suitcase behind her — a quiet promise of movement, always onward. perhaps tonight, she's flying to santa, or maybe she's already flown too far.
the window display shimmered like a dream frozen in time, and she stood there, motionless, as if afraid to wake it. her small hands pressed softly against the cold glass, smudging reality as she stared at the carousel horse – glossy, extravagant, and glowing with a surreal energy. it wasn’t just a decoration in the louis vuitton store on paseo del borne; it was a portal to somewhere else.
her plaid dress, tied neatly with a velvet bow, and her crimson socks framed the scene with a nostalgic warmth, pulling you into her world. the bokeh lights sparkled around her, as if the magic inside the window was leaking into the night. and yet, she stood on this side of the glass – waiting, wanting, dreaming.
the horse behind the pane, striped and proud, stood still, mid-gallop. the golden rope anchoring it seemed to stretch endlessly, holding the weight of something larger than its polished surface – maybe her imagination, maybe ours. but for a moment, the line between reality and wonder blurred. this wasn’t just a window; it was a story, a feeling, a fleeting glimpse of what it means to see the world through a child’s eyes.

Holiday Magic hours at Brookfield Zoo started last night - Saturday, Dec 5th. The zoo will be open until 9pm today, Sunday Dec 6th, next weekend Dec 12 & 13, Dec 19 & 20, then Dec 26 thru Dec 31, NY Eve.
