People love to stand in front of Van Cortlandt Manor at the Great Jack O' Lantern Blaze and take selfies or photos of the house itself while it's all lit up for Halloween. This year, I noticed that the vast majority of people I saw taking pictures were using their cell phones rather than regular cameras. This surprised me very much and made me wonder at their reasoning. Are they simply trading quality for simplicity or is it something more? I take a lot of pictures with my cell phone since it's very quick and easy but it can never replace my "real" camera. What does everyone else think about using a cell phone for photography versus an actual camera?

From the end of of September until November, families can marvel at more than 7,000 hand-carved, illuminated jack-o'-lanterns displayed all over the 18th-century grounds of Van Cortlandt Manor. In addition to traditional pumpkin heads, there are huge dinosaurs, giant spiderwebs, creatures from Greek and Roman mythology and a menagerie of life-size animals, all cleverly assembled from carved pumpkins (both organic and synthetic). Plus there are themed pumpkin patches like a beehive, a garden and a huge pumpkin cake. Eerie sound effects and mood lighting enhance the experience. This is definitely a must-see event! Even if you don't live in the Hudson Valley area, it's more than worth the trip!
