During the Jacobean era, angels played a significant role in decorative interior architecture, exemplified by Crewe Hall in Cheshire, UK. These celestial beings were often depicted in intricate plasterwork adorning ceilings, walls, and mantelpieces, symbolizing divine protection and heavenly blessings. In Crewe Hall, angel motifs were prevalent, reflecting the religious and spiritual beliefs of the time. Their presence added a sense of grandeur and opulence to the interiors, enhancing the overall ambiance of the space. Such decorative elements served not only as aesthetic embellishments but also as reminders of faith and transcendence, enriching the visual experience of occupants and visitors alike.

Nusretiye Mosque - Nusretiye Camii

The Nusretiye Mosque was erected between 1823 and 1826 by Mahmud II (1784-1839) as part of a larger project to rebuild the Tophane artillery barracks that burnt in the Firuzaga fire. It is located off the Western shore of the Bosphorus, below Tophane or the Canon Foundry established by Mehmed II (1432-1481) and was built on the former site of the Mosque of the Artillery Barracks (Tophane-i Amire Arabacilar Kislasi Camii) built by Selim III (1789-1807). In style, the mosque signifies a transition from Ottoman baroque to empire style. Its architect is Krikor Balyan (1764-1831), who is the first in nine architects belonging to the Armenian Balyan family who served the royal family throughout the nineteenth century. The mosque was named Nusretiye or Victory, in celebration of the sultan's recent abolition of the rebellious janissary troops in favor of a new western-style army -- an event known in Ottoman history as Vaka-i Hayriye or the auspicious event.

Aynı yıl padişah, Yeniçeri Ocağı'nı topyekün kaldırdığı için camiye Nusretiye adı verilmiştir. Tek kubbeli, iki minarelidir.

Kazan Cathedral or Kazanskiy Kafedralniy Sobor, also known as the Cathedral of Our Lady of Kazan, is a cathedral of the Russian Orthodox Church on the Nevsky Prospekt in Saint Petersburg. It is dedicated to Our Lady of Kazan, one of the most venerated icons in Russia.

Construction of the cathedral started in 1801 and continued for ten years under the supervision of Alexander Sergeyevich Stroganov. Upon its completion in 1811, the new church replaced the Church of Nativity of the Theotokos, which was disassembled when the Kazan Cathedral was consecrated.

The architect Andrey Voronikhin modelled the building on St. Peter's Basilica in Rome.

The Royal Palace of Venaria, located just outside Turin, was built in 1675 by Duke Charles Emmanuel II of Savoy as a grand hunting lodge and summer residence. A masterpiece of Baroque architecture, it was designed to showcase the power and refinement of the House of Savoy, with vast gardens, opulent halls, and an expansive park. Abandoned and later restored in the 21st century, La Venaria Reale is now one of Italy’s most spectacular cultural landmarks and a UNESCO World Heritage site, symbolizing both the splendor and resilience of Savoyard heritage.

La Castiglia, the historic palace of the Marquises of Saluzzo, rises prominently in the heart of the town as a symbol of medieval power and civic identity. Built in the 13th century and expanded over successive centuries, it served as both a fortress and a noble residence, reflecting the autonomy and prestige of the Marquisate. With its distinctive crenellated towers, Gothic mullioned windows, and elegant loggias, the palace blends military architecture with refined courtly style. Today, it houses the Museo Civico, preserving artifacts and artworks that tell the story of Saluzzo’s rich political, cultural, and artistic heritage.

The Albert Dock is a complex of dock buildings and warehouses in Liverpool, England. Designed by Jesse Hartley and Philip Hardwick, it was opened in 1846, and was the first structure in Britain to be built from cast iron, brick and stone, with no structural wood. As a result, it was the first non-combustible warehouse system in the world. It is a vital component of Liverpool's UNESCO designated World Heritage Maritime Mercantile City and the docking complex and warehouses also comprise the largest single collection of Grade I listed buildings anywhere in the UK.

The Torre Civica (Civic Tower) of Saluzzo, rising in the heart of the town’s historic center, was built in the 13th century as a symbol of communal power and civic pride. Adjacent to the former Piazza del Comune, it served multiple roles: a watchtower for spotting danger, a bell tower to mark the hours and summon citizens, and a stronghold during periods of unrest. Its simple yet imposing stone structure reflects medieval military architecture, while its survival through centuries of change makes it one of Saluzzo’s most enduring landmarks. Restored in recent years, the Torre Civica stands today as a testament to the town’s communal past and its legacy as a free city within the Marquisate.

With its striking brick façade and Mediterranean Revival detailing, the Harbor Court Hotel stands as a warm and elegant presence along San Francisco’s Embarcadero waterfront. Originally constructed in 1926 as a YMCA residence for seamen, the building’s Romanesque arches, ornate cornices, and terracotta roof tiles give it an old-world gravitas that contrasts beautifully with the steel-and-glass skyline that now surrounds it. The building was adapted into a boutique hotel in the 1990s, blending its historic architecture with modern hospitality. Its prominent location on Steuart Street, just across from the Ferry Building, makes it a beloved landmark for locals and travelers alike. Palm trees line the cobblestone Embarcadero, adding a laid-back California feel to the otherwise urban setting. Step inside, and you’ll find design nods to the building’s nautical past, including porthole windows and maritime hues. But from the outside, it’s all about that romantic brickwork and the quiet dignity of a building that has weathered nearly a century of change along the bay. Whether you're staying here or just passing by, the Harbor Court invites a second glance—and maybe even a moment of appreciation for how beautifully San Francisco balances heritage and reinvention.
