As a freelancer I can relate to this image, the struggle to make living using antiquated equipment, the long hours and stressful delays.
I made the image in taxi on the way back from a meeting with a potential client on the banks of the Cairo Nile, we were stuck in the mother of all traffic jams, the driver was tired and stressed, I was, for once content as I had eaten fish and concluded what I thought was a successful meeting. Now I look back, the real success was this image, which is one of my favourites.

70009 on hire to Colas emerges from beneath the delightfully named Willow Bottom Lane at Portway heading 6E59 17:35 Kingsbury Oil Sidings to Lindsey Oil Refinery discharged tanks.
A late running 6L92 is seen at Egleton south of Oakham with GBRF hire in 60021. 6L92 1108 Chaddesden sidings - Kings Lynn T.C. which was running about 90 minutes late when past me 10/1/25. (Taken using a pole)
Two young women on board a hired motor boat, although visibly in a hurry to get off the vessel, remain seated as the operator, with the use of a long bamboo pole, slowly gets it closer to the seaside concrete steps of the wholesale fish market before making the final move.

The all-clean combination, led by EL56 returning to the RailFirst workshop in Goulburn, leads CLP9, 4908 and CLF2 up the Cullerin range with loaded grain train 3242 loaded grain from Naradhan in Central West NSW to Allied Pinnacle at Maldon.
EL56 has spent time working on SSR's Victorian "Green" rake since May 2023 and was returning for repairs and de-hire.

Dover & Delaware River local freight RP-2 squeezes west between the NJT rush. The NJT Geep leads a home road engine due to PTC. With only one track open between Dover and Denville, they moved quickly to get in the clear.
There are two visiting hire cruisers on the public moorings near the road bridge on which I am standing. This river is part of the area known as the Broads, with Suffolk to the right and Norfolk to the left of the river here.
I've taken this view before and I am sure I will do so again. This time it was a pleasant evening light and the clouds were interesting.
