A batch of brand new ADL Enviro400's have arrived in Northumberland for the relaunched Newcastle to Alnwick and Berwick upon Tweed X18 service. 7511 is seen here helping out deputising for one of new ones at Hipsburn
Travelsure YX11CRV squeezing past Arriva 7512 on Curly Lane in Hipsburn near to Alnmouth Station. These buses have to negotiate very narrow roads and lanes on the journey.
The service is a life line to many. The passenger seen in this picture had shopped in Alnwick, and needed the bus to get back to the village of Longhoughton; not everyone has the use of a car.

A typical view of the station, looking towards the road bridge, with Hipsburn to the left.
Note the length of the Station building, and the position of the pedestrian crossing bridge.
Also note the sign above the door for the "Telegraph Office" and the cut-off text for "Midland Railway", presumably being the "York and North Midland Railway"
The principal objective of the Aln Valley Railway Project is the restoration and operation of the railway between Alnmouth and Alnwick, providing an additional tourist attraction for the area. The original intention had been to restore the trackbed of the former BR branch to Alnwick. However, due to the construction of the A1 bypass, which cut the original trackbed on the outskirts of the town and the costs associated with building an over bridge, a new station, known as Lionheart station, is being established on a site in Lloyd's Field, adjacent to the Lionheart Enterprise Park. This area has ample space for the railway premises, station, visitor facilities and car parking. The new 'Lionheart Station' will be aligned parallel to the A1 from where a single track line will join and follow the original trackbed to Alnmouth Station, near Hipsburn.
CrossCountry 'Voyager' 220016 departs from Alnmouth and heads away into the night with the late running 1S52 service from Basingstoke to Edinburgh Waverly on 30.12.2015. This service would normally start in Southampton but has most likely been rescheduled due to a severe delay with the incoming train.

Another generic postcard, this time with maybe a bit too much pathos ?!
Alnmouth's beach has been described as being in three sections -- the main beach (north of the river mouth) that stretches up to the Marden Rocks.
North of these Rocks the beach goes on up to Seaton Point.
However to the south of the mouth of the River Aln is the wild beach that stretches all the way down to Warkworth -- a magnificent walk and best accessed by heading south from the Hipsburn roundabout.

This shunter once worked at Whittle Colliery in Northunberland.
It now rests at the Aln Valley Railway in the heart of Northumberland.
Diverted along the East Coast Mainline due to severe flooding forcing closure of the West Coast Mainline at Lamington until at least the end ofJanuary 2016, the up 'West Coast Postal’ 1M44 from Shieldmuir Mail Terminal to Willesden PRDC passes through Alnmouth station led by 325004 on 04.01.2016.
At the Hipsburn roundabout, with Alnmouth village and the beach to the east (the right).
As the "finger" sign indicates, Alnmouth railway station is up to the left here.
This junction has been here for some time, forming part of the busy route from Alnmouth inland to Alnwick and beyond, and also for the north-south "coast road", with Lesbury and Boulmer straight ahead, and Warkworth and Amble some way behind the viewer.
The roundabout seems to have appeared here sometime in the 1950s or 1960s -- an era when Britain started building highway roundabouts in earnest!
The signpost pole seems to be the original one, although up until 2014 it was painted a drab greyish green. The "retro" stripes (as per the days of the war when visibility for drivers at low luminosity was vital) were added about 2016, and the ornate rounded finial top on the pole also placed there.
A close-up of the base of this pole does show what could be a drilled hole, which could only have been for an electric cable -- was there a light atop it at some point ?
The roundabout has had a variety of signs and illuminated arrows and water hydrants with slabs and concrete marker posts on its surface, but now is pleasantly plain, save for this pole.
This village is named after the Hip Burn which starts a short way inland and feeds into the Aln estuary not too far to the right from this image.
