The Father of the Nation Mahatama Gandhi in his autobiography wrote Hindi alone could be the lingua franca of India. Hindi is the mother tongue of more than 43.63% of the total population of our country. As per Article 343 of our Indian Constitution, Hindi is recognised as an official language along with English.Currently, Hindi is the fastest growing language in India and is also the third most spoken language in the world with 615 million speakers after English and Mandarin. Hindi Diwas is celebrated on September 14 each year to commemorate the proud day when the Constituent Assembly of India declared the Devanagari script language, Hindi as the official language in the Republic of India in 1949. However, the idea of using Hindi as the official language got sanctioned by the Constitution of India on 26th January 1950. Many schools, colleges, and offices celebrate this day with great enthusiasm by organizing debates, poetry, and story-telling competitions as well as cultural programs. Individuals dressed in Indian ethnic wear come forward to talk about the importance of the Hindi language and Indian culture. Hindi Diwas is celebrated every year in Zebar School. This year students of Pre-primary section prepared small presentations for this day and shared it in their virtual classes.
