From Taipei Station to Taipei Station via Qing Tian Gang 擎天崗, Ba Yan八煙, Jin

Shan金山, Jilong/Keelung/Kilong基隆 (the French Cemetery 法國公墓), night bus near the station of Keelung, 11pm. Arrived at 23h35. Departed around 16h, reaching YMS before 17h . D_trop'June 2007 (= Edited at 2h07pm, June, 24th.

25/06/'07, 12h25 am. I am just coming back from Taipei, Danshui. I ve shown this serie of a one day trip to a friend who can only see there much too common views of her own surrondings. So, here I start my little story... This is the first shot, a landmark. The subject of this photo is none of those amusing topics, like "wrong signs", " weird logos", that punctuate every "voyeur"like touristic trip. In fact it's nothing else than a tea house who is supposed to be advertised there. I didn't stop there, actually at none of the places indicated as "^ UP ^" , on the way to one of my favorite trail. This is uninterstingness, blur﹠ unfocused. Of course there are those kettles hanging on a tree, but it's nothing but too banal in Taiwan. This is trail art, maybe. I am marking my first picture on that trip. I might return there or not. Easily recognizable even on a foggy day which is likely to be the case 1 time out of three on Yang Ming Shan.

The time is 17h08 ( the indications on "More proporties" like the Date & Time are acurate ), on saturday after a rainy afternoon. The skies seemed to clear slightly and slowly but surely... ( not sure at that time of course) Full stop.

When I edited this, this shot had been seen by one person excluding me, no idea by whom on flickr, not the friend mentioned above. We didn't have a chance to go on the net. Why is it important to show your views that have limited interestingness to your close friends? Is it to make yourself sure that is not any hidden layer of interpretation. Of course everyone thinks he can have his own... Let's see!

So we are on the northern tip of the island of Taiwan. The weather was so dull that I decided to leave the main city there, Taipei, mainly because I had planned to do a hike there with a local friend who from my opinion must seldom be hanging around in the wilderness. The outing was cancel, I found myself disrupted in my plans. Still I went on for it... Here is the story. The never ending trail.

The sign on the pole is indicating the street or road name as many places, I should say, most in Taiwan this one is green with white characters on it, both in chinese and tong-yu pin yin or.., depending. The white sign by the pole also advertises farm chicken raised in opened-space.

I am looking for the transcription of the characters on the teapot- logo, above 泡茶 and next on the right below. Thanks in advance (I have posted this pict to Chinese Writing group)(= 1:09 am

10:21 pm on the 25th of June; thxs for allowing this poor quality-pict to stand for your group's policy (;... Viewed three times (this time I guess by the Admin of CW group)/ 4: 26th/1 am

Additional note on the 27th, June, '07: I' ve found the missing character on the sign.. "yu", but it's only because I've returned to that place yesterday. Still it's not on my computer... Later! ( 7x, 28th, June ;)

In fact it is only available as "You"(pin yin), you yong (swim) de you... It might be pronounced Yu some other time as I think I have seen it on a sign the second time I passed there and noticed this board. you 2: 游. 游園, 園 as in garden, yuan 2. I cannot translate that further than this."

As for the rest of the board: 土雞 /Eartn Chicken

泡茶TeaTasting (literally, to pour boiling water?) ;

...

Especially for... (as I don't get everything/ crystal咪

It was a great hike in beautiful weather that I am so glad we decided to take, even if one of us didn’t have the right shoes.

Tip- if you want to hike on top of the cave and crawl in through the skylight, as you are looking at the cave from the outside, hike up from the left side and it is a very easy hike. My kids loved it!

Last weekend I trekked with my entire family down to Cumberland Gap, TN to see a reenactment of the Raid at Martin’s Station. I will write about the raid in a few days, I need to sort through the 500 pictures I took! While we were at the ranger station, one of the park rangers told me about a great hike with kids a few miles up the road to a large cave with a 1 meter round skylight in the top of the cave. My son overheard him and was dying to check it out, unfortunately I only had my Dansko clogs with me. The trail was beautiful leading up to the cave and except for having to be very careful not to roll my ankle, not a bad hike in clogs. I loved seeing the running cedar growing all along the trail.

I was shocked when we got to the cave how big it was. It was great to listen to a school group of kids who were thrilled to crawl around in the dark. I would have been fine to have hiked up there in clogs, had I had not decided to crawl around in the dark cave. I managed to step into two feet of very cold water in a lake in the cave. I had a very squishy shoe for the rest of the weekend.

I went for a walk out to the Benmore Hut back in November 2024.

The hut is out the back of Benmore Station and access is through the station. There's a parking area on the Station land that you can get to quite easily from the main road. Just watch out for stock when your driving around.

The access track from the station to the bush track is a 4x4 track that follows the river up stream. It's easy going but you might get wet feet crossing the river.

The track starts heading up hill once you get to the bush. The track was a bit muddy in place but nothing a bit of bush bashing can't get you around.

The hut is in its own little clearing and the walk there isn't that difficult. It's a popular spot for hunters so don't be surprised if you come across hunters.

You can find more info on the hut and walk to it through the DOC website.

One of the secrets to mountain hiking is to invite a young buck to come along with you. Before you head up, create a diversion and while he's not looking stuff what ever beer you can fit into his pack. Not only does it slow him down on the way up, but they sure come in handy at base camp....it worked like a charm....thanx Marcus

Water is an essential item to carry on a hike. Always carry water.

Dehydration is a major contributor to fatigue and as a general guideline hikers should consume about one litre per hour during strenuous exercise. It’s also a good idea to “camel up” and always carry water by drinking before you s... bit.ly/2lhqcKc
