The Crooked River curves thru a portion of Oregon's spectacular Smith Rock State Park as seen from the Misery Trail (not really all that bad).
One of my favorite hikes.
Friday's here! Enjoy a wonderful day and weekend!
We met these sheep on a mountain ridge on about 2100m a.s.l. Spending winter down in the valley must feel so boring in contrast to this life!
Syracusa/Siracusa, Sicily
I started in the morning, but it was long and hot throughout the day.
I don't usually make such big mistakes, but this time I ran out of water. That was why I had to turn around and walk back....
But, this path along the coast was lush, wild and beautiful
- so I want to go back some day. Then I want to walk much further and bring enough water with me 😊
Hiking at Kerlingarfjöll is a rewarding experience. We got lost for the first time hiking, away from the planned trial, reached to glacier direction, the strong wind and cold weather almost killed us although I wore snow pants and thin down jacket. Here are some tips for hikers at Kerlingarfjöll:
-Research and Plan: research the trails, weather conditions, and any potential hazards in the area.
-Check Weather Conditions: Icelandic weather can be unpredictable. Be prepared for sudden changes in weather and pack appropriate clothing and gear.
-Carry Essential Gear: a sturdy backpack, hiking boots, extra clothing layers, GPS device, food and water.
-Stay on Marked Trails: Stick to marked trails and avoid venturing off into unmarked areas, as it can be easy to get lost in the wilderness.
-Be Mindful of Wildlife: While wildlife encounters are rare in Kerlingarfjöll. Respect the natural habitat and keep a safe distance from any animals you may encounter.
Hiking in Kerlingarfjöll offers a combination of geothermal wonders, colorful landscapes, remote wilderness, and stunning views, making it a special and memorable experience for outdoor enthusiasts.
Have a wonderful weekend my Flicker friends!
I was returning from my hike through the Alps when the weather started to change rapidly, clouds closing in and rain falling. I was glad to be on my way down. Nonetheless I took a quick picture of this lovely autumn scene.
The Olfen quarry near Beerfelden is a small red sand quarry that was closed in 1975. Since part of its inventory is still in place, the quarry is operated as an open-air museum.
We took a shorter hike along part of the Ice Age Trail today. It just dipped into the 30’s for the first time a few nights ago and we’re loving that the mosquitoes are finally gone! The smell of decaying leaves and pine was incredible on this hike, as were the golden colors.

Sometimes it's better to hike out to where the waves are breaking than to paddle out there. But, you have to deal with the cliffs while carrying your board.
