I love sunsets and sunrises because not one of them are exactly the same!

🎶[Sultans of Swing (Mark Knopfler)] 🎶

You get a shiver in the dark

It's raining in the park, but meantime

South of the river, you stop, and you hold everything

A band is blowing Dixie, double-four time

You feel alright when you hear the music ring

Well, now you step inside

But you don't see too many faces

Coming in out of the rain to hear the jazz go down

Competition in other places

Ah, but the horns, they're blowing that sound

Way on down south

Way on down south, London town

Check out guitar George

He knows all the chords

Mind, it's strictly rhythm

He doesn't wanna make it cry or sing

Yes and an old guitar is all he can afford

When he gets up under the lights to play his thing

And Harry doesn't mind if he doesn't make the scene

He's got a daytime job, he's doing alright

He can play the honky tonk like anything

Saving it up for Friday night

With the Sultans

With the Sultans of Swing

Yeah

And a crowd of young boys

They're fooling around in the corner

Drunk and dressed in their best brown baggies

And their platform soles

They don't give a damn

About any trumpet-playing band

It ain't what they call "Rock and Roll"

And the Sultans

Yeah, the Sultans, they play Creole

Creole

And then the man, he steps right up to the microphone

And says at last, just as the time bell rings

"Goodnight, now it's time to go home"

Then he makes it fast with one more thing

"We are the Sultans—

We are the Sultans of Swing"

Cowee Overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway

I had an opportunity to tag along with photographer, Dave Allen, during a recent workshop in the Southern Appalachians. The evening ended as it typically does with Dave, at one of, if not the best, wide, sweeping view of mountain layers on the Blue Ridge Parkway--Cowee Mountain Overlook. Cowee Mountain Overlook is located at milepost 430 and looks out towards the Cowee Mountain Range in Macon County, North Carolina and beyond to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park (GSMNP). Anyone who knows Dave, knows that he is a magnet for light rays as well ;-) He's got the forecasting in the mountains down to a reflex and has a unique ability to get me and others onto interesting light conditions!

Thanks for visiting!

Still going through some old stuff during the lockdown.

Testing out something a little more artistic for a Milky Way shot, choosing selective colors for what I think are the interesting aspects of a given MW shot. For this shot I thought the intense green airglow and new spring vegetation growth combined with the aurora from the Memorial Day weekend storm were "highlights" of the shot. I also decided to selectively color the Rho Ophiuchi complex, North American Nebula, and Sadr region. Thoughts?

one of my top highlights & unexpected discoveries of 2019

It was made the more so enjoyable in that several others were also able to spend some ' quality time" & have quality views of this individual over the several days as it frequented the West Reservoir of farm

Östmark in Värmland, Sweden.

Photo taken at the 2016 Black List Rally in Pittsburgh, PA.

Another shot from Saturday morning. Again at Lake Ogwen looking back towards the west. The dark clouds created some very dark shadows and the gaps in the clouds allowed the sun to shine down on the mountains to create a dramatic contrast change. Combine that with a 51 second exposure with the 10 stopper again and you have this pic :-).

Icon - Coastal North Carolina Bodie Island Lighthouse Cape Hatteras National Seashore OBX NC

Truly an icon of the state of North Carolina, the Bodie Island Lighthouse is a historic treasure on the Cape Hatteras National Seashore along the barrier islands known as the Outer Banks of NC. OBX, as the locals call it, is a beach vacation destination that offers many fun adventures and beautiful sights to see, including miles of pristine beaches, and it's many historic lighthouses that are definitely must see attractions of coastal North Carolina.

Early autumn mornings at Bodie Island Lighthouse are always something I look forward to, and it has become an annual ritual for me as a much needed relaxing getaway after the hectic autumn season schedule in the mountains. It's always a treat to be there during the morning hours as the low angled warm light of golden hour highlights the edges of this iconic structure making it seem larger than life, as if it extends higher into the sky than even the sun itself. The lack of visitors so early in the day really allows you time to appreciate all there is here to take in, the history of the lighthouse and the role it played in protecting people in the dangerous waters along this coast, the feat of engineering it took to build a monument like this 150+ years ago, the people who have protected and cared for this national treasure to preserve it for us all to enjoy, and the beautiful nature of the surrounding marsh lands that are rich with wildlife going on about their daily routines. No longer needed to serve it's original purpose, this lighthouse now stands as a monument to the rich history and culture of coastal life in North Carolina, an icon symbolizing much of what people love about this beautiful state. Hope you enjoy the view!

Interesting, how the snow peppered over the tiny relief features exposed their intricacies.

Still adding to my "People" highlights over on Instagram... maybe adding 10 or so a day to fill it up with my favorite people shots. Instagram highlights are great, but you don't get to hear any of the stories about these people... that's one of the multitude things I don't like about Insta... it's a bit OVERLY visual. Anyway, as for this dude, he was a Berber gentleman I met in Chefchaoen. Before I went there, I mistakenly assumed they were a sect of Islam. Well, I was totally wrong about that! Anyway, we spent the day together while he told me all about the Berbers... and he even gave me a knife and showed me how to get water out of a camel without hurting it (too much). I mean, I don't know how a camel feels pain, but he patted me on the shoulder and said, don't worry, don't worry. The water was pretty good, but it tasted a bit... hmmm, how do you say it... camelly?

Memorable Highlight.

I've always been fascinated by the big cats, and when the opportunity presented itself, I captured as many frames as possible. The leopard was quite calm and relaxed, before he vanished into the bush.

Many thanks to everyone who chooses to leave a comment or add this image to their favorites, it is much appreciated.

This was an experiment where I used a flashlight in a darkened room to provide side lighting in order to create a feeling of mystery and nostalgia in the subject.

I am back from Hanover and these Herrenhausen Gardens impressed me most.

Gallery building

The gallery was built in 1694-1698 by Brand Westermann.

Originally, the plan was a long building with two pavilion-like wings. The central block should take a 200 feet long Orangerie room for overwintering plants. Even during construction suggested Princess Sophie to broaden the purpose of the building so that the large hall can be used as a banquet hall and the wings also to live at the same time.

There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.

O, what a rogue and peasant slave am I!

To Bee, or not to Bee, that is the question.

This was a place that have wanted to photograph for many years. Dull morning conditions gave me the opportunity to find this composition in favourable light. It was not to last however as the sun broke through and specular highlights ruined any further compositions. I will return as I feel there is so much more potential at this location.

Really appreciated the large hill of dirt that provided a perfect background.

With about a inch and a half snow here that was very dry and blowing, there was some that stayed along the top of the fence!

A good contemplation corner. as you listen to the water coming down under the bridge and to the left in the gorge the River South Esk.

Tower number one of the "highlight" munich. It was a little dark this day and the reflections did not realy came out. Love the see the blue on the glass is much clearer than it was in the sky.
