Looking across Sydney harbour at twilight towards Barangaroo (right) and the Walsh Bay Wharf Precinct (left).

Viewed from the 'higher ground' of the Blues Point Reserve.

Up the sandstone steps from the more popular harbour-level, to the forested area beneath the shadow of the Blues Point Tower.

Here's Stevie Wonder with the orginal, and arguably the best. version of 'Higher Ground', though there are some pretty cool 'cover' versions:

It was fascinating to see how this ladybird's tiny claws gripped the unfeasibly slender piece of grass it was balancing on.

This long exposure was taken from a higher vantage point.Had to clamber up rocks to get this one. I like the subtle hazy effect with the soft blues and sandy colours. This beach is at the south end of Agonda and is totally unspoilt

"Birding is a three-dimensional pastime. It’s superior to, say, mushrooming, where the quarry is never higher than your shoelaces. And, of course, misidentifying a bird won’t kill you. Now, while all the mushroomers get busy writing angry op-eds, let me explain.

Birds fly. The sky’s the limit. One can’t go birding without looking up. The entire forest is stratified, from the treetop warblers to the ground foraging turkeys. And in the middle: thrushes.

Members of the thrush family spend much of their time on or near the ground. They forage on foot.

Males on territory might sing from a treetop, but they are often content to croon from a lower branch in the canopy. Birders sometimes complain about “warbler neck,” the pain that comes from looking high into the trees. Nobody complains about thrush neck.

Robins and bluebirds are thrushes. They’re easy to tell apart. The rest? Not so much. All the medium-sized thrushes are various shades of brown, with whitish, spotted breasts. So when walking in the woods, identification becomes easier if you start with a default bird: everything is a hermit thrush, unless it isn’t.

The hermit thrush is the most common and widespread thrush in Maine. It is comfortable in the understory of both hardwood and softwood trees. It forages through the leaf litter on the ground. When surprised, it may fly to a nearby branch where it can look you over and assess the threat, perhaps raising its tail or wiggling its wings. In other words, it’s easy. Its reddish tail contrasts with its brown body, confirming the identification at a glance. The whitish breast is lightly spotted.

Hermit thrushes don’t go far in winter. Most stay in the states. Some are even found on Christmas bird counts in Maine. They are the earliest of the brown thrushes to return, and start singing in late April.

Like their cousins, the song is an ethereal, flute-like melody, rising and falling. "

Limited material to work with but a break in the weather made it all the more desirable to just play and make something anyway.

I tried in vain to balance the lower stones to meet with the top ones. I guess I would have if I'd have stayed with it longer, but then I decided that they make more of a statement by not going that high anyway.

Well 2022 is just about in the books and a lot to be thankful for.

For starters the most beautiful, big hearted and most tolerant girl in all of the world, remains at my side and often behind me pushing me to always be a better man. Abi I love you more today than yesterday and you will forever be "my person".

My Relay family which most definitely extends well beyond just my own amazing teammates, continued to wow me this year despite economic downturns. To each and everyone of you, thank you for giving SL such a higher purpose and focus of mine. And with the '23 season right around the corner, I cannot wait to ride that wave with you again as we continue to fight back with all we have against cancer.

The crazy Hedo's, while I was not around as much as I had liked this year, I have made a promise to be around more and participate in all the crazy fun. SO many of you have supported Abi and I in our Relay ventures, know it doesn't go unnoticed and always appreciated.

To all the the amazing content creators, many of which I can also call a friend, THANK YOU for entrusting me to kind of call myself a blogger. I often wonder how I got so lucky as I am always just amazed at what you each bring to life. And not only do you let my crazy head attempt to promote your store, so many of you all have also given back to our Relay team, One More Light. Again, a huge thank you and wishing you all a prosperous 2023.

And to all my friends, none of which I will embarrass and name you, but wishing you each a healthy and properous year ahead. The amount of care and true friendships that occur in SL will never be taken for granted.

And all the rest who may still be reading this, suck it! Why aren't we friends?! Kidding! To all of you out there on Flickr/FB, I do truly wish you and yours all the best and a very Happy New Year!

And with that my last post for '22 is in the books. Stay safe, peace and chicken grease!

Both light and shadow are the beginning of all beginnings,

and their tendency to clash is natural.

No one has abolished their values.,

And yet the sun dominates the shadow.

This Higher Light holds the world in its palms,

descending from heaven, spreading across the seas and lands,

Hope, faith - as a guide.

Kindness inspires, heals the soul...

The mountain Sveinstindur is positioned near the shout shore of the highland lake Langisjór, practically in the middle of Iceland. The height of the mountain is 1093 meters, and it is higher than most of the surrounding mountains. The elevation is about 350 meters as Langisjór lake is placed at an altitude of 670 meters. Sveinstindur mountain is one of the best places in Iceland to get a good view of the Highland and probably one of the best viewing places in Iceland. Here you have a view to six glaciers, many great volcanos, hundreds of mountains, long and winding rivers, and the horizon for hundreds of kilometers in any direction. You just have to be there to understand the magnitude of the view.

Shiga - Kusatsu Highland Route is aligned on the saddle between Siranesan and Moto-shiranesan. It was considered that the former was new and active volcanic crater, while the latter was the older and higher volcanic peak. However, the sudden eruption in 2018 occurred on the upper slope of Moto-shiranesan.

This photo was taken just after passing the saddle. The road in front just branches off from the Shiga- Kusatsu road goes down to Manza Hot Springs (万座温泉).

The altitude here is at around 2,000 m.

The bamboo grass in front is Chishima Zasa (Sasa kurilensis), which is found in northern Japan, Korean Peninsula and Russian Far East. It is known as the bambo species that occurs in the northernmost region.

The conifer trees are Shirabiso (Veitch's fir, Abies veitchii) or Ooshirabiso (Maries' fir, Abies mariesii), which are fir species endemic to Japan. The former grows in the sub-alpine zones on the Pacific slope of Honshuu and Shikoku islands, while the latter grows on the Japan Sea Slope.

TGIF right? Let me end this week with an amazing color burst at the gold coast of Chicago. Morning light was great! What do you think?

The impressive Tymphe mountain range, as seen from one of its lower peaks.

Noticeable is the Dragon - lake, an everlasting lake whose water emanates from deep inside the earth and the snow melting during the hot season.

The peak of the Tymphe mountain range is seen on the far left, shaded under the clouds and is called Gamila (2497m).

All part of the main "spinal" mountain range of northern Greece, Pindus.

Also to be seen the Vasilitsa mountain on the far left and Astraka peak hiding on the rear to the back of the frame.

I shot the full moon earlier but as I moved around looking for Christmas scenes, I found this lovely, decorated house that reminded me of a peppermint candy cane and the moon was now higher in the sky hanging over it! Only thing missing is the snow.

This blue hour photograph was taken from the palace garden looking towards Heidelberg Palace and Old Bridge (Alte Brucke). It was an overcast evening, with some colours remaining in the cloud formations. The Palace, at higher elevation, is prominent in the city, while the Old Bridge provides linkage to the other side of the Neckar River.

View from St. Pauls again but a litle higher and wider.

Wonderful Phalaenopsis orchid. Some of them just don’t want to flower, probably need higher light. Have a lovely day.

THANKS FOR YOUR VISIT AND FAVES
