We had the most fantastic storm in the middle of the night - torrential rain and more lightning than I've ever seen before. This morning was rather overcast and more humid than ever, but I had a good walk to work from Cannon Street, hunting for puddles to photograph.

Hot, sticky day at work, followed by an unbelievably hot and sticky climb at the Arch this evening. Had a really good time though and managed to round it off by completing a climb I'd not been able to do before.

Spotted this little guy on the highwalk this morning - wonder where it had come from and where it was going. I expect it got there in the end....

Today was rather exciting - my profile went live on the Barbican website, so it's official, I really am their instagrammer in residence now. Woohoo! Got my first 'gig' on Thursday - photos to follow, I'm sure.

Also had a really lovely evening with my friend Lizzie, chatting away over dinner at the Green Room on the Southbank. So nice to have a good old catch up with her :) Caught the train home just before 9:30pm and Tim walked up to meet me from the station.

An excellent museum documenting this great city. Definitely worth a visit, for anyone. It's linked by highwalks to the Barbican, and is near St Paul's tube station. There's an offshoot out near Canary Wharf called Museum of London Docklands.

Another busy day! Had a data migration meeting this morning, then straight into a CRM project team meeting, then straight into an interview. We were due to interview two people today but one didn't turn up (the agency's fault - we're going to see her tomorrow instead). Lunch next, then a full afternoon of data migration checking and various other tasks.

Feeling quite a bit better today - and so is my cousin, by the sounds of it. My Mum and sister phoned me this morning to say that she doesn't want any visitors, so the mad dash to Essex (from Somerset) we were planning is off for now. Called my Mum again on my way home, and had a catch up with her. Tried to call my friend Lizzie, too, but still no answer - getting a bit worried about her now :(

As part of the Open House London event, I went on a guided tour of The Barbican Centre in London.

We had a look around the highwalks on the estate and the "Conservatory" area, among others.

Not the first time I've taken more or less the same photo, but those dangly bits have definitely got danglier.

Had a good day at work. Took some photos for my friend Maw, then spent a lot of the evening printing them up as passport photos for her - while watching the England game, which was suitably painful but ultimately OK.

Bit of an odd title - this image just kind of reminds me of futuristic cityscapes.

Woke up sneezing this morning and couldn't decide if it was hayfever or a cold. By the end of the day I was pretty sure it was a cold - although keeping my fingers crossed it'll be a mild one.

Phoned my Mum on the way into work - in fact, I took this photo while I was on the phone to her. She sounds ok, although with a little bit of the September blues. Hoping the cruise she's going on soon will pep her up again :)

I had another pretty busy day at work - finally making a dent in it all - then popped to Homebase after work to buy a few more tester pots. Success! I think we've chosen our kitchen paint now ('white cotton').

Another busy but very productive day at work. I think I may finally have finished the interminable project/document I've been working on. Hurrah! Straight onto the next set of madness now....

Told my friend in Oz this morning that I will shoot her wedding for her next year. Very excited now!

Tim chased up about our broken TV today - thankfully it was still under warranty, as they decided it wasn't cost effective to repair and so gave us a brand new one. Tim picked it up and brought it home this evening - he is very happy!

Back to work today. It was alright. I'm feeling quite a bit better after our holiday, so finally did pilates again - hooray! And felt OK doing it, too.

I stopped to capture some lovely light on the highwalk this evening, then spotted this little cluster of leaves. Not sure how they ended up here, as it's quite a distance from any of the plants up there. Anyway, it provided me with today's shot.

Spent ages doing the online shop this evening - and ended up finding and throwing out some very out of date food in the freezer too. I swear time passes at a different rate inside freezers. How can that bag of fish possibly have been in there since 2016?!

Back to the office *again* today. This time for an in-person team meeting. The team was a bit depleted with one colleague off with Covid, another off with a sick daughter, and another with a dental emergency - and a couple of colleagues joining remotely via Teams - but it was still a good meeting, and nice to see everyone again.

Snapped this photo from the Barbican highwalk on my way home this evening. Nice to be heading back in full daylight again :)

Yep, another photo from the Barbican highwalk. But this time I took it on my way home from work, instead of my way in. So you get a completely different view. You lucky people.

Had a close run-in with a bus and a taxi while crossing the road this morning. Evil bus driver was stopped at a 'Keep Clear' section in the road, then decided to start driving at me once I'd stepped out in front of him - leaving me with the choice of being hit by a 15-mile-an-hour bus or a 25-mile-an-hour taxi. I'm not quite sure what happened, but I think I might have managed to slip into the gap between the two lanes. The main thing is, I'm alive. But also, that bus driver is evil.

Tim worked at home today to take delivery of the rest of our new doors. They're lovely - can't wait for them all to be fitted!

There are so many roadworks and building sites on my walk into work (unless I take the highwalk all the way from Wood Street), that I've taken to using some rather dubious 'shortcuts.' Like this one - I'm pretty sure it takes longer to cut up onto the highwalk on this corner near Moorgate/London Wall, but it feels like a psychological shortcut from the messy streets below. The light was beautiful as I rounded the corner here this morning. Even here, you can see all the hoardings surrounding the Crossrail development at Moorgate - but it's a nice peaceful diversion.

Good day at work getting back on top of things a bit. Just as well, as I only have three days in the office next week before going on holiday. Eek!

Popped over to my friend Lizzie's house tonight to deliver the photo book I made for her of baby James's christening pics. It was lovely to get more baby cuddles - and toddler chit-chat from older brother, George. Then hurried home to meet Richard who was coming to see us to give us an update on all the work in our flat. Thankfully we do seem to be nearing the end now - poor Tim is tearing his hair out at just how long it's dragged on for. We were told 2 weeks originally - it's now been more like 10, I think. I've just got used to living in a building site, but Tim's reaching the end of his patience!

Busy evening - ended up not eating dinner until 9:30pm - just about the latest Tim and I have ever eaten, I think! Tasty chicken curry though. And now for the long weekend - hooray!

Taken from the Barbican Highwalk.

Lovely light on the way in to the office this morning. Another horrendous day at work though. Very glad to get home this evening, and to have a much needed glass of wine. (Just a small one.)

It's all gone rather "Pete Tong" in a Large and Dark Styley.

So here we are at the results from the second roll of 120 film from my beloved Yashica and I have to say my "beginner's luck" with the Sunny 16 rule has dropped off signifcantly - as can be seen here I've developed a habit of under-exposure-itis and the bulk of the roll has come out in a similarly gloomy and dark fashion.

Woe is me.

Help from any film fans out there who can recommend a good, but reasonably priced, light meter is most welcome... as are thoughts on how to get a negative out of the plastic wallet and onto the scanner without it attracting every tiny spec of dust in a 100 yard radius. Post scanning I spent a good while with the 'heal' gadget getting rid of all these specs and my scanning is on hold until I find out how to avoid this.

I'm guessing it's to do with a static build up as the negative moves out of the wallet - maybe if I get some gloves or somesuch that would also help with handling in general? All help gratefully received as I'm at a bit of a loss.

Having said that I think the result - and this is a "straight scan" with no lightening or darkening - certainly reflects the location and the current state of the building... for here we have the Moorgate Telephone Exchange, a building which seems to defy the recording of any kind of architectural history whatsoever as there is simply nothing about it anywhere (At current stage of my search anyway).

Maybe it was one of those Cold War "secret buildings" that didn't appear on maps and never existed? You didn't see me as they used to say on The Fast Show.

The building is much beloved by my fellow Flickrite Beechlights whose photostream I can highly recommend, and not just for his shots of this location. Go on - have a look and Flickr-Surf (but leave a comment first!).

The building is up for development after BT sold it for a large wad a couple of years ago - there are some shots on the architect's website of the proposed new building. Interestingly the mockup still shows Ye Olde Highwalk and defunct booths on the right hand side.

Unsurprisingly the redevelopment is on hold and the building remains empty... although since taking this shot the formerly empty windows of the exchange are now, on the Barbican side, full of posters for Camelot with the tag protection through occupation as described in this article in Property week from 2007.

The Big Idea is that Camelot rent out living space in the building for anything between £20 and £60 a week and, in return, the owner get the protection of having people living there to keep the n'err to wells at bay. As is clear here some work is going to be required to make the adhoc living arrangements for prospective tennants.. which I think this gives some indication of how long it's likely to be before any kind of demolition begins

I've put in an enquiry as to the rent here as I rather like the prospect of living here. While I'm waiting for a reply and bemoaning my gloomy reel of shots I'll leave you to...

.. enjoy
