Cocos Fire San Marcos, Ca I captured this shot during day break on the morning of May 15, 2014. All the reports I heard on the radio had the fire moving South, yet I observed the fire moving in a north east fashion from this angle with some hot spots breaking out closer to the northwest side behind the college. Within hours, the winds picked up and sure enough, the fire blazed a run east prompting thousands of additional evacuations in Escondido, Ca. Unfortunately I had no cell reception until it was too late and the fire's run had become increasingly dangerous and defined. I was surprised not to see planes flying overhead at the crack of dawn, perhaps if there were then they too could have seen the direction the fire was heading from a better angle than the boots on the ground had. I'm sure there will be questions when it's all said and done.
