Flying a box kite together

Shown here is a late 1970's vintage Marantz turntable that were produced from 1978-81. This turntable was the flagship Marantz turntable during those four years it was produced. I bought mine sometime in 1979.

This vintage turntable was built during the golden era of high fidelity (1971-81), when all the big name companies were competing for the worlds best in musical reproduction. Not only were these turntables the best sounding, but were the most beautiful looking turntables ever produced aesthetically.

In 1984 I bought my first Sony CD player, and ended up selling off my very large vinyl collection. Man, what a big mistake that turned out to be later on.

It was last year when I decided to get back into buying vinyl records after buying a large vinyl collection. With my Marantz turntable being in storage for 35 years, I got it fixed up and cleaned with a new Ortofon 2M-Blue cartridge. Can't believe after all these years how good it sounds, with the nice rich sound along with excellent clarity and separation of the musical instruments. Also, without the harsh digital sound and without the tinny high end and muddy low end.

In the photo shows my new Ortofon 2M-Blue cartridge. The vinyl record is "The Doors" 2nd album Strange Days that is a first 1967 pressing pressed at Terre Haute, Indiana.

In the comment section is my vintage Marantz 2500 receiver that I posted earlier.

Hard to believe, but today marks the 50th anniversary of Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon album that was released on March 1, 1973 for the U.S., and later on March 16, 1973 for the U.K.

One of the best selling and iconic albums of all time, DSOTM sold estimated sales of 45-50 million album copies. It holds the records for both the consecutive and total weeks on Billboard's top 200 album sales chart. From its release in March of 1973 to 1988 it was on the Billboard's chart for 741 consecutive weeks, and as of today, March of 2023 on the charts for 972 weeks.

In 1973 I got my first Hi-Fi system from having two morning paper routes. I asked my friends what should be the first album to buy, and they definitely said Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon since it was fresh out on release. After getting the first U.S. pressing, I was so blown away by the great sound quality of the album, and also the outstanding job done on the production of the album. I went through three albums of DSOTM until I bought mt first CD in 1984. Personally, DSOTH is in my top three favorite albums, if not my favorite of all times.

Two years ago I was able to get a super clean 1979 MoFi (MFSL) original master recording from a person who only played it a couple of times, which the album cover is seen in the photo. Also in the photo is a 1978 Marantz 6370Q turntable, and 1978 Marantz 2500 stereo receiver.

Music, music, music... Here is a bird with some electronic power :)

I took the pic and made the sketch as usual. I was sitting outside

of a restaurant in Lisbon, Portugal. Several birds came and moved

from one chair to another hoping to draw my attention to receive

some food (I gave them all my bread). If you wish, you can view

the sketch in progress and some preparatory photos at this link.

PS: Please, visit My SoundCloud page and listen to my music...

>>> Review from THE DAILY MAIL for this picture:

"A bird blares out music from a boombox around his neck: Ben

begins by taking a picture of an everyday scene then covers part

of the shot with a sketch - transforming the bland backdrops into

intriguing scenarios" (Matt Blake, The Daily Mail, July 2012).

Update: See THIS VIDEO showing some 18 Pencil Vs Camera

images in progress (with a small animation and original music).

Part of Fisher receiver line 1972 were 201, 202, 203 and 205. This is the smallest one of the series: Model 201 Futura ($249.95) in typical The Fisher design of the early seventies. It has respectable output of 2x20 Watt. The sound is astonishingly voluminous and the Futura is already service-friendly discreet manufactured.

In Germany “The Fisher” was distributed by ELAC (Turntables) in my hometown Kiel near Hamburg at high pricing, but sold well. This 201 Futura is til today in a very good condition. I got it with German brochure and nice US booklet.

My interpretation for the HighFidelity challenge. I wanted to show a speaker whilst capturing the sound element; I used a glass of water to show the movement of sound waves through the water. I decided to blend a shot of a speaker cone to the bottom of the glass to reinforce the theme.

Richer Sounds is a British home entertainment retailer that operates through a chain of 51 stores and through online, mainly in England. The business was 100% owned by Julian Richer, the founder and managing director of the company, who in 2019 sold 60% of its shares to an employee ownership trust. Richer Sounds formally began trading in 1978 when Richer, then aged 19, opened his first shop near London Bridge, with the help of photography retailer Vic Odden. For over 20 years, this shop has been listed in the Guinness Book of Records for the highest sales per square foot of any retail outlet in the world.

For this week's #FlickrFriday I had my hubby break out his #Gibson ES335. It fit the theme perfectly this week. First, it's one of the most beautiful guitars Gibson ever made. And second, it's the guitar he wrote the song he sang to me at our wedding almost 12 years ago. Now that's #HighFidelity

Shown here is a 1970's vintage Marantz 2500 receiver rated at 250 watts per channel (minimum RMS at 8 OHMS, 20-20,000 HZ), THD at 0.05%. The Marantz 2500 receivers were produced from 1977-79 with me buying mine in the fall of 1978.

This vintage receiver was built during the golden era of high - fidelity (1971-81), when all the big name companies were competing for the worlds most powerful receiver, along with the best in musical reproduction. Not only were these receivers the best sounding and most powerful, but were the most beautiful looking receivers ever produced aesthetically.

This golden era was known as the receiver war that was at its peak in the late 1970's. The Marantz 2500 in the end would turn out to be the 5th most powerful receiver produced during the receiver war era.

Sansui had half a dozen QRX quad offerings in the early seventies. The impressive QRX-5500 was the mid-range receiver. All decoder systems are on board. Fine condition in a real wood casing.

High fidelity performance power with 30 watts per channel x4 at 8 ohms

When I found this while wandering under the JR line in Koukashita, I had to stop and get a shot in. Why? Because my father-in-law spent his career working for Hayakawa Electric Co. Ltd. (That's the original name for the brand we know today as Sharp.) Unfortunately, he couldn't remember this model when I showed him the photo! Seen and photographed while wandering with Kome, Roger, and Teruhide-san. Chuo-ku, Kobe. February 28, 2013.

The integrated amplifier KA-7150 is an EU version of the same KA-7100 from 1976 by Kenwood. The quite rare 7150 version is realized with a so-called gunmetal faceplate. The alloy of the surface contains a high copper content. So the front appears slightly bronzed noble comparatively to the usual brushed aluminum look.

With an output of 60 watts per channel the very fine sounding amp reaches good pressure with almost all speakers.

The KA-7150 is assigned to the upper middle class of the Kenwood series to 1976-1978. The excellent FET phono section and a two-way (!) loudness switch makes the heavy amp to a special seventies vintage amplifier.

The Rotel RA-1312 from the line 1975 can be assigned to the high end hi-fi class. With 110 watts per channel amp is not only visually a powerful device 70s HiFi history.

The rare massive front of brushed aluminum gives respect. Used maintenance-free Alps potentiometers work until today as the first day. If you can evaluate a sound and want: Punch til the end - I want to say. This 18kg Rotel is great fun. Pity that such machines have come today out of fashion.

-
