Diabetes: A Major Trouble For Your Heart And Brain..!!!
Diabetes causes an increase in blood sugar level which again causes damage to small blood vessels in all our organs. This results in major organ disorders and failures. Our 2 most important organs, i.e. Heart and Brain are no exception. Diabetes results in damaging the larger blood vessels in or body which connects the heart and brain and thus results in malfunction of both. The various causes of diabetes affecting our heart and brain are listed:
1.Damage to blood vessels which supply oxygen to heart
2.Fats can build up on walls of the vessel
3.Nerves in the brain where white matter is present gets affected
4.Smoking
5.High cholesterol
6.High Blood Pressure
Now the question that arises is how Diabetes causes brain and heart disorders? Have you ever imagined what happens to the sugar if that is kept open overnight? Yes, it gets sticky. The same thing happens to our blood vessels which become hard due to the sticky sugar and results in less blood flow and results in organ malfunction and even failure. These blockages are mainly responsible for the harmful effects of diabetes on them like:
1.The chances of heart attack increases to a great level due to the blockages
2.It can lead to stroke
3.Can cause nerve problems which connect the brain with the body
4.Changes in thinking called vascular cognitive impairment or vascular dementia takes place in brain

While, I do make a conscious effort to make sure my children eat a healthy diet, I am prone to the mommy syndrome. Grabbing something on the run, not fixing myself a plate, tasting right out of the pot, and finishing the leftovers. Not paying attention to what I have been eating has turned out to be a big mistake. I convinced the doctor to let me try diet rather than medication to lower it. I have 5 weeks to study for my next test. Goodbye cheese stuffed pretzels, pizza, real butter, fast food and a host of other foods that I love. Hello healthier diet. My dinner last night - A pita stuffed with lettuce and tomatoe with a tiny scoop of tunasalad (made with lowfat mayo) inside and a cup of lowfat cottage cheese sprinkled with pepper. While this is an acceptable meal for me and I like to eat like this, it will get old soon and I will be craving chocolate cupcakes before too long. Say a prayer for willpower, because I am surely going to need it.
