Behind Penmon Priory, Anglesey there's an old graveyard. An ancient stone Celtic cross stands proudly, surrounded by moss-covered tombstones. The cross, decked out with intricate carvings, sits on a stone pedestal amidst vibrant green ferns and tall grass. The background is a mix of trees and cloudy skies, adding to the chill, slightly spooky vibe.

A Sword “Unmatched by Precedent” (Unlikely to Be Found):

Let us quote exactly what Tahsin Öz, the former museum director, wrote about the sword and its epitaph on pages 38 and 39 of this book:

“At the time this sword was opened for inventory, the sword had a thicker layer of rust than other swords. When it was cleaned, human images and writings were found on it, and it appeared that these were real.

The hilt of the sword is covered with black leather on wood and the cross guard is made of iron. Its length is 101 inches. The base is wide and the two edges are sharp and the tip is pointed. There is a picture of a person near the hilt of the base, holding a sword in one hand and a head in the other. There is an Arabic line under it, which is well deserved, and among the writings there is another type of writing (perhaps Nabati) whose type we cannot determine. In the last line, the names of David, Solomon, Musa, Harun, Joshua, Zekeriyya, Yahya, Isa, Muhammad can be read.

The iron of this sword is made of white metal, and it is extremely sharp and has a characteristic that cannot be matched. However, it was impossible to determine its nature from the partially readable writings on it. After a while, while the works in the palace’s warehouse called the Emanrt Treasure were being classified, a copper inscription caught our attention. Because it had the same pictures on the sword. One side of this inscription was in Arabic with 32 lines and 28 lines on the other side were in the aforementioned font. The picture here was more obvious than the sword.

Head of the Inscription of the Sword

After giving this technical information about the sword and its inscription, Tahsin Öz goes to the summary of the inscription. This is where the real oddities come together.

On one side of this strange inscription, there is a figure holding a sword in one hand and a severed head in the other hand, similar to the sword (as seen in the picture); However, there are major differences between them that seem small. It is as follows: The picture of the man with the sword -it is understood that this picture represents Prophet David – has a funnel-shaped cone on his head, while the figure in the inscription has two horns on his head. When this situation is evaluated together with the feet of the figure, it is clearly understood that this picture represents a genie. Because the two figures that look like the feet of the demon (that is, for show) are not actually feet, but the letter ط (Tı) in Arabic. When the letters ط (Tı) are excluded from the picture, the genie’s legs are bent backwards. The picture looks like a talisman when evaluated together with the vefks below. Perhaps the sword was made as a protective talisman.

Pictorial Part of the Sword

The figure holding a sword in one hand and a severed head in the other (the cut head is slightly faint) and depicting the event of Prophet David killing Goliath is depicted on the sword.

On the face of the copper inscription with a genie picture, a text that cannot be understood in which language and alphabet draws attention. Anyone familiar with occult sciences can understand that these writings, which Tahsin Bey, the former director of the museum, said “may be Nabataean”, are talismanic writings about demons. Historians are well aware of the genie issue. Therefore, Tahsin Bey may have guessed that these writings were jinn, but he did not want to express it from his book, which he wrote in an academic and official style, because this is a metaphysical issue..(?)

Jinn can be written in many different secret alphabets; We can see the common vefk characters here both on the sword and in the inscription.

The story of Talut and Goliath described in Surah Baccarat and the depictions on the sword and inscription in the Topkapı Palace Museum draw attention to the same event. And in the inscription of the sword, it is written that the sword will be delivered to the Mahdi. The relevant sections in the book are as follows.

“Ali says; I found this sword and plate in the treasury of Melik Mukavkis, the owner of Egypt. He had a narration from Prophet David in Syriac and Hebrew. He says; When Goliath became hostile to me, I made a sword and an arrow as my Lord had taught me. And after the galabeh, God made me victorious. One of the signs of this sword is that; On one side, there is a person with a sword and a head in his hand, and on the other side, a person sitting on the pulpit of the country. That severed head expresses my killing of Goliath, and the one sitting on the pulpit expresses his judgment on Solomon and everything. This blessed sword will reach Prophet Yusuf… After that, Hazrat. It reaches Zechariah, then Yahya, and then Jesus. Then it is presented to the Prophet Muhammad. After his death, he reaches Hazrat Abu Bakr. Then he inherited his son Muhammad. Ali bin Abu Talib appoints Muhammad as governor of Egypt. Then he dies. And the sword returns to the treasure of Prophet Yusuf. Then it remains hidden until the 880th year of the Hijra. Elif will be transferred to Egypt. After the Ottomans state is complete, they will fight until the time of Kuffar Mahdi. God bless them. Then the sword will pass to the Mahdi, the owner of the time, and it will reach the Prophet Jesus. With him, the one-eyed hypocrite ibn-i siyat will murder the Dajjal. Allah and His Messenger reported them as secret sciences.”

The strangeness in the copper inscription continues.

There is an Arabic text on the back of the inscription (Image above) and what is described in this text contains information that seems contradictory at first glance. The mystery of the text, which includes some of the prophecies that have come true, is knotted in a picture of a ship encrypted with the science of cifir. But before that, the point that draws our attention is that; There is something strange about saying that Prophet David’s sword will reach Prophet Yusuf. Because Prophet Yusuf lived and died centuries before Prophet David. How is it that the sword reaches other prophets after Prophet Yusuf and returns to Yusuf’s treasury this time. It’s like talking about a time spiral. The strangeness of the chronology given in this inscription, which was preserved and preserved by the Ottomans for centuries, must have been noticed by the Ottomans immediately, because the tradition of religious sciences was always very widespread and developed in the Ottoman Empire. Therefore, it is almost impossible that they did not notice this strangeness. Moreover, the inscription mentions the “Completion of the Ottoman Empire”, that is, the collapse of the state. At that time, even if anyone said such a thing, it would probably result in my extradition. So why did the Ottoman state preserve and protect these pieces for centuries? That is a separate question that remains a mystery.

is the second-tallest and second-largest of the Ancient Egyptian Pyramids of Giza and the tomb of the Fourth-Dynasty pharaoh Khafre (Chefren), who ruled from c. 2558 to 2532 BC.

The Great Sphinx of Giza is a limestone statue of a reclining sphinx, a mythical creature with the body of a lion and the head of a human. Facing directly from West to East, it stands on the Giza Plateau on the west bank of the Nile in Giza, Egypt. The face of the Sphinx is generally believed to represent the pharaoh Khafre.

While she looks old and rusty, and is certainly not moving anywhere of her own accord, there was yet a glint in her eye that said to me "My time is not yet done!" So I had to stop and take this photo. I hope this photo in some ways acts as a nice send off for this very old car which I get the feeling has witnessed more than anybody will ever know...

Although laying on the ground, this frosty, old oak is still very much alive. It grew out of the soft bank of an an ancient dyke and it now lays across an ancient farmer's lane that hasn't seen a farmer for centuries.

Fake news was already alive and kicking 100 years ago in late October 1922. British newspaper headlines from just two days - 30 and 31 October 1922.

If you want to read about the extreme violence which preceded and enabled the October 1922 fascist coup in Italy, or to read a long list of shocking quotations from 220 pro-fascist articles published in British newspapers between the summer of 1922 and the autumn of 1923 please see my article here -

roguenation.org/mussolini-fascism-british-press/

The image includes a few of the headlines from the fervently pro-fascist British press on just two days - the 30 and 31 October 1922, when Mussolini's Blackshirts seized power in Italy.

It was the overturning of a nascent democracy for which he was soon rewarded with a knighthood from King George V (see the previous Flickr image), becoming Sir Benito Mussolini - an astonishing honour for any new European political leader at that time, let alone a dictator who had come to power through murdering or intimidating his opponents.

The essay (linked here roguenation.org/mussolini-fascism-british-press/) includes 220 citations from newspaper reports and editorials from across the political spectrum of the mainstream press from the Daily Mail and the Telegraph on the right to surprisingly pro-fascist articles in otherwise relatively progressive newspapers such as the Manchester Guardian (later the Guardian), the Daily Herald and the Daily Mirror. It also includes citations from reports in the Times, the Sunday Times, the Observer and leading regional newspapers such as the Scotsman, the (London) Daily News and the Yorkshire Post.

Unfortunately, I did not have time to check through some national newspapers such as the Daily Express, the Daily Chronicle and the Morning Post.

Nor did I have the time to investigate British press coverage of Mussolini and fascism during the subsequent twelve years up to Italy's invasion of Ethiopia in 1935 or, indeed up to its entry into the Second World War in 1940 - but I suspect that the total number of blatantly pro-fascist reports and editorials in the mainstream British press might number well into the thousands.

It's unfortunate that all that is usually remembered now is Lord Rothermere's 'Hurrah for the Blackshirts' article in the Daily Mail, which was not published until 15 January 1934. The truth is that, while that headline might be one of the more memorable, almost the entire British mainstream press had been editorially sympathetic to fascism since Mussolini's seizure of power in 1922. A fact that is conveniently forgotten today.

(For a selection of pro-fascist headlines during the following twelve months please see the next Flickr image.)

And yes, 'Sir Benito' is no typing error; Mussolini was awarded with a knighthood by King George V, just six months after overturning Italy's nascent democracy through the widespread use of terror, murder and intimidation. You'll notice two articles in the image which reference his knighthood.

Otherwise, the image is a compilation of just a few of the many shockingly pro-fascist articles from 1922 and 1923 I found in the newspaper archives, and was created for an essay on British press coverage of fascism during the weeks just prior to Mussolini's fascist coup in Italy (28/29/30 October 1922) as well as the subsequent 12 months as Mussolini began to tighten his grip on power. The essay contrasts the euphoric eulogies to Mussolini and fascism in the British press, with the brutal reality of the fascist reign of terror in Italy.

Hundreds of pro-fascist quotations from the press are listed below the article and cover a period of fourteen months from June 1922 to September 1923. See the link here -

Five Canadian Abandoned Ghost Towns

In late 2019, I had an idea to visit abandoned ghost towns and villages in every Canadian province and territory.

This idea came after reading the book “The Whisper on the Night Wind” by Canadian explorer and author, Adam Shoalts. Adam and I had worked together on a new way to help promote his newest book, I would read the book, interview him and do a video review about it. I got to speak with Adam at great lengths about this adventure and his many others.

The book is about an adventure that Adam and his friend Zach embarked upon to find the lost ghost town of Traverspine in Labrador and investigate sightings of the Traverspine Gorilla. You can learn much more about this on Adam’s website here:

adamshoalts.com/labrador-the-whisper-on-the-night-wind/

I started researching and planned to start with the many abandoned fishing villages and ghost towns in Labrador and then visit a different province or territory every year.

This monumental goal was to start in May 2020 - but then the world shut down!

Fast forward to 2022 and things were getting back to normal and 2023 would be the year where I started this project and I decided to start in Saskatchewan. In addition to several other places of interest in Saskatchewan, I visited 5 separate ghost towns on my trip.

I did visit a smaller ghost town in Quebec in 2022, while it’s not a true ghost town, it looks a lot like one. It was a movie set for a film called “The Education of Little Tree” from 1997 - the set was built on private property and most of the buildings are still there today.

In 2024, I took on what is probably the most ambitious ghost town in all of Canada, Anyox, BC. I spent one whole week in Anyox documenting as much of it as I could.

For this weekend's video and posts, we are featuring 5 of the ghost towns that I have visited:

Hidden behind thick trees and timeworn walls, this image quietly holds a piece of Algiers' forgotten past — an old synagogue, no longer seen, but not yet gone.

I intentionally kept the structure partially obscured, allowing nature and texture to veil it, as if time itself were preserving its memory. Shot while parked, I tried to capture it as one would frame a moment in an old film — softly, subtly, deliberately.

This is not just a street scene; it's a quiet frame of what once was, and what still lingers in the corners of our cities.

The Mount (Motte), Barrow Green

Scheduled Monument

List Entry Number: 1012547

Date first listed: 11-Dec-1951

The Mount has been interpreted in the past as a burial mound but more recent observers have identified it as a Norman motte castle. The monument includes the whole of the steep-sided mound, which has a diameter of some 60m and stands 9m above the level of the surrounding land. The small, flat top is likely to have provided the site for a single building or tower and a palisade fence may have bounded this area. The motte is unusual in appearing not to have been surrounded by a ditch. Little is known of the history of the monument. The local name of Barrow Green may indicate a folk tradition that the site was a burial mound, but equally it might refer to the nearby rabbit-infested woods known as Coney Burrow. The nearby Barrow Green Court was built or rebuilt in the early 17th century, at which time the Mount may have been altered to provide views of the associated gardens as was fashionable at the time - a map of 1762 shows the Mount to have been at the end of a long avenue of trees.

Is it not possible a Norman fortification was placed on an ancient barrow!?

Well being a Lahorite from childhood, I am listening different stories regarding the hidden secret infrastructure buildings of Lahore fort. You might also have listen about the tunnel that connects Lahore fort to Delhi. When I first time visited Lahore fort in school days, my father told me that there are underground basements in fort, used by Mughal Emperor’s in summer time. I don’t know from where my father heard about these basements but these building actually exist in Lahore fort.

The basement chambers of Lahore fort never been opened to general public and still hidden from the outside world. Fortunately, I along with my younger brother got chance to visit one of these basements named ‘Summer Palace’ also known as ‘Pari Mahal’. The place is basement of Sheesh Mehal (mirror palace), Uthdara and some portion of Shah burj. In order to enter the basement one has to use elephant stairs, a small door is located on left side in second lift of stair.

Our host a senior officer at Lahore Fort told that ‘summer palace’ historically had only one entry point which was Mughal’s secret stairway to enter the summer palace.”During British Raj a door from Elephant stairs was made by demolishing small part of the wall. Shah Jahan built the Shah Burj, the Sheesh Mahal and the Naulakha Pavilion in 1642 AD, the ‘Summer Palace’ supposed to be constructed before this in shah Jahan tenure.

It was a hot afternoon of September, when we entered the basement, the first thing which amazed us was sudden drop of temperature from outside, there was also fresh air circulating in building. The outer configuration of palace is rectangle in shape, I didn’t have any instrument to measure the dimension of building the rough dimension after pacing were 140 ft x 170 ft.

A state of art mechanism has been developed for both ventilation and cooling system for this Palace, once river Ravi runs parallel to, the north east wall of the Palace. The amazing and interesting thing of cooling system design was that north east wall of the palace has been partitioned with small windows; on inner side of these windows, concrete tunnels has been constructed, cool river breeze entered and trap inside, the other side of tunnel opens directly inside the corridors of Palace. These tunnels work similarly as HVAC ducts of present time to carry cool air breeze. There are 42 fountains inside the Palace. It is also told by our guide that a slab somewhat 4 to 5 ft below the original floor of Palace has been found and water from river Ravi used to runs over it. This mechanism somehow cools the original floor of the palace. The North West wall of Palace has five mullioned types’ windows. When we entered the palace there was dark inside the only source of light was sun rays entering from these five windows. These five windows also directly partitioned parallel to corridors of Palace to bring natural light in all rooms

The Civil Defence Department has used this basement as a storehouse in World War II. Altering many arches either closing them with brick masonry to be used as rooms/offices, the frequent white washes vanished the original Fresco art of the building. After Pakistan came into being, the building still was used as storehouse. Luckily there are few portions in the building where you can see the remnant of fresco art and painting works. The Palace has also signs of Sikh era rule in Lahore fort. There were few arches modify to use rooms for religious place.

The Palace was built with acoustics in mind as seen in many others Mughal architectural buildings if you are standing in one corner your low voice can be clearly heard by the person standing in the other corner of the same room.

In Summer Palace there are two secret approach ways to reach Sheesh Mahal. The whole Palace was constructed in maze pattern recalling the conventional style of the Labyrinth of Greeks. In Urdu language there is a word “Bhool Bhulian’ this word easily describe the whole construction pattern of Palace. You can easily lost in corridors and without the help of guide it is difficult to find the return way. This Palace has also connected to secret escape routes and tunnels.

One of the remarkable things in Palace was secret room of Shah Jaha, a low ceiling room hardly of 6 ft & 4 inches in height. Reason of low ceiling height was that Shah Jaha was merely 5ft & 5 inches in height. There are two small stairways to reach that room, interestingly two more stairways also constructed at distance that end nowhere only to trick enemy. The room slab is also a mezzanine floor. There is a large window on north east wall of room, centuries ago river Ravi flows along this wall. King Shah Jahan used to sit there and watched the site of flowing river. In time of wars he had a bird eye view of battlefields. It was strange feeling standing in this room, in Shah Jahan times not even the closest to King were allowed to enter this room. How time has changed dramatically in few centuries. Mughal, Sikhs and then British’s, the place has seen so many era’s, but how sadly now not only the Palace but also the history of this palace lost in dark.

The Palace is now under the control of Walled City Authorities of Lahore. The Walled City officer Mr. Zubair really cooperated with us he has vast knowledge about the place and briefed us very well. Only regret after visiting this place was that we were not allowed to use tripod stand for taking pictures. In these dark corridors’ it is almost impossible to take hand held shots with low shutter and high iso’s. Not able to shoot best pictures as of my liking to document the place. .....http://aliusmanbaig.blogspot.com/2016/09/summer-palace-pari-mahal-mysteries-of.html

This project continues, in 2025 I will visit some of the ghost towns right here in Ontario, in August I am travelling to Alberta, Canada and in 2026 - I am heading to the Arctic, but I haven’t yet decided where yet. Adam Shoalts highly recommended that I go to the Yukon, and I think I am leaning that way!

Stumbled upon this relic in the wilderness, a stark concrete structure that seems to whisper tales of its former significance. Standing solitary against the backdrop of nature reclaiming its territory, it's a poignant reminder of the passage of time and the stories etched into the landscape we often overlook.

"Aviation Meets History ️📜"

This Cubana Airlines AN-26 tells a story beyond aviation—it’s a symbol of Cold War tensions that played out in the Caribbean. Shot down where it sat and left behind during the 1983 U.S. invasion, Operation Urgent Fury, it now stands as a striking reminder of Grenada’s past.

On the campus of UMass Boston.

Finally tracked down where these bath house tiles came from, found on a local antique store’s property. At one time a symbol of “good fortune” or “well being”. This hooked cross motif seems to have been used in Eurasia as early at 7,000 years ago. But I found more info about that it also originated in India.

Anyway, the tiles came from the old Colonial Hotel and Bath house in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. It, along with many other hotels, had therapy baths during the late 1800s till around the 1970s. Yes, even today Mt. Clemens is called “bath city” The Colonial hotel closed shortly after 1975 , and burning down in May 1984.

The look is funky old fashioned smudgy stencil printer - more like the pastiche of a London pamphleteers publication that I was intending with the earlier edition that was photocopied and unillustrated. But sold over 1000 locally within a few years.

Update Oct 2013 I noticed at the A Bookfair there is a new edition with beautiful colour photos!
