Former cloister Haydau lies in the district Alt-Morschen of the municipality Morschen in the Schwalm Eder Kreis in Hesse. It is the cloister best of all preserved in his architectural continuance of the Cisterciansinnen in Hesse.
In 1232 landgrave Konrad von Thüringen and his field captain Friedrich von Treffurt to Spangenberg attacked the Mainz broad city of Fritzlar. They pillage and threaten to burn the town, they burnt down and looted the conventual church Saint Peter. Friedrich's family to the Fritzlarer provost Gumbert offered to the penalty obliged her endowment around the moor, so Haydau. On the 23rd of January, 1235 provost Gumbert confirmed this handing over to the Cisterciansinnen.
In the middle of the 14th century cloister of Haydau had developed not only to a spiritual-cultural, but also an economic centre in which the landgraves of Hessian had pledged towns and villages.

Low down shot...something happens when one gets to a certain age, the simple act of crouching seems to turn into a test of endurance and then the return journey to verticality is accompanied by the cannon-like cracking of knee joints.
Anyways, enough of my geriatric gripes...pass me the gin.
i hope you all had a great start into 2013.
sweep away the dust and all unpleasant feelings, if any, of 2012.

Castle Ronneburg: originally founded in the 13th century, it came into Ysenburg possession in 1476. It attained its greatest importance as the residence of the collateral line Ysenburg-Büdingen-Ronneburg in the 16th century. The castle therefore has very significant Renaissance architecture, including the distinctive domed helmet of the keep, the Zinzendorf Building and the New Bower. During the Thirty Years' War, the core castle was initially largely burnt out, and a few years later Ronneburg Castle was plundered. In the years that followed, it lost its function as a fortress and seat of nobility. Its importance as a monument was recognised around 1900. The good preservation of the medieval and early modern castle buildings has since made it a well-known excursion destination in the region.
on historic trade road Via Regia
an der historischen Handelsstraße Via Regia
This photo was taken between Wartbaum and Roßdorf (Nidderau, Hesse, Germany). The monument „Sequenz Roßdorf“ symbolizes the trade on the old historic trade route „Via Regia“ and the development of modern trade with goods (bar codes).
The Via Regia (Royal Highway) was a historic trade road in the Middle Ages which ran through the Holy Roman Empire from Santiago de Campostela (Spain) - along the Rhine river through Frankfurt and Leipzig - to Kiew (Ukraine).
In our area the road is called „Hohe Straße (High Road) which leads along a mountain ridge from Frankfurt to Hammerbach (23 km) with beautiful views on the surroundings. Parts of the historic route became the so-called „Regionalpark RheinMain“ (inaugurated in 1994) and include a bike and hiking route.
