On Saturday the vet put Jasmijn to sleep. She was very weakened, no longer wanted to eat and drink herself. It was the best thing I could do for her.
Zaterdag heeft de dierenarts Jasmijn laten inslapen. Ze wilde niet meer zelf eten of drinken en was erg verzwakt. Dan kun je nog maar een ding voor haar doen.

I was recently at Myakka River State Park and spent a pleasant morning watching many Limpkins feeding on freshwater mussels at the mouth of the river. For the most part, they were tolerant of each other, with the occasional skirmish, which will be my next post. In this one a mother was catching mussels, separating the meat from the shell and sharing with her chick, sometimes taking a bit for herself. I enjoyed watching their interaction and they were very tolerant of my presence. (Aramus guarauna) (Sony a1, 400mm f/2.8 at f/4, 1/1000 second, ISO 400)
Akasha has now turned 10 months old and is becoming a more independent female cat.
She has very charming manners and has recently surprised me by showing how well she can hunt.
She made me feel very proud as I now know she can fend for herself if needed. This is a big accomplishment for her as she lost her Mom when she was only two weeks old and had no one to teach her how to hunt and learned it on her own.

The Temple of Aphaia (Greek: Ναός Αφαίας) or Afaea is located within a sanctuary complex dedicated to the goddess Aphaia. Formerly known as the Temple of Jupiter Panhellenius, the great Doric temple is now recognized as dedicated to the mother-goddess Aphaia. It was a favourite of the Neoclassical and Romantic artists such as J. M. W. Turner.
It stands on a c. 160 m peak on the eastern side of the island approximately 13 km east by road from the main port of Aegina island, which lies in the Saronic Gulf, Greece.
Aphaea (Greek: Ἀφαία, Aphaía) was a Greek goddess who was worshipped almost exclusively here. She originated as early as the 14th century BCE as a local deity associated with fertility and the agricultural cycle. Under the later Athenian hegemony she came to be identified with the goddesses Athena and Artemis and with the nymph Britomartis as well, by the 2nd century CE, the time of Pausanias:
On Aigina as one goes toward the mountain of Zeus, god of all the Hellenes, the sanctuary of Aphaia comes up, for whom Pindar composed an ode at the behest of the Aeginetans. The Cretans say (the myths about her are native to Crete) that Euboulos was the son of Kharmanor, who purified Apollo of the killing of the Python, and they say that Britomartis was the daughter of Zeus and Kharme (the daughter of this Euboulos). She enjoyed races and hunts and was particularly dear to Artemis. While fleeing from Minos, who lusted after her, she cast herself into nets cast for a catch of fish. Artemis made her a goddess, and not only the Cretans but also the Aeginetans revere her. The Aeginetans say that Britomartis showed herself to them on their island. Her epithet among the Aeginetans is Aphaia, and it is Diktynna of the Nets on Crete. Description of Greece 2.30.3
Mary, Queen of Scots stayed at Bolton for six months. After her defeat in Scotland at the Battle of Langside in 1568 she fled to England, posing a threat to the position of the Protestant Queen Elizabeth I. Mary was initially held at Carlisle Castle under the watch of Henry, 9th Baron Scrope, but Carlisle proved unsuitable and in July 1568 Mary was moved to Bolton. Mary was given Henry Scrope's own apartments in the South-West tower. Of her retinue of 51 knights, servants and ladies-in-waiting only 30 of her men and six ladies-in-waiting were able to stay in the castle, the rest taking lodgings nearby. Her household included cooks, grooms, hairdresser, embroiderer, apothecary, physician and surgeon. Bolton Castle was not initially suitable for housing a Queen, so tapestries, rugs and furniture were borrowed from local houses and nearby Barnard Castle in County Durham. Queen Elizabeth herself loaned some pewter vessels as well as a copper kettle.
Captured this one out all by herself early evening, she looked she was waiting for others to arrive but never did.
“She was a genius of sadness, immersing herself in it, separating its numerous strands, appreciating its subtle nuances. She was a prism through which sadness could be divided into its infinite spectrum.”

It's funny, while originally supposed to be just a backup character for Rainha, Apoch has quickly warmed her way into my heart..... (or is it wormed her way?)

Was dressing for a Halloween event and realized I really had a look, good or bad is relative, anyway, Kept adding things till I was pleased. Thought it was a good look for a picture. Hopefully the actual Halloween outfit goes as well. There's this great sim for pics like this... Nightbrook Hollow.

Raven hair and ruby lips
Sparks fly from her fingertips
Echoed voices in the night
She's a restless spirit on an endless flight
Woo-hoo, witchy woman
See how high she flies
Woo-hoo, witchy woman
She got the moon in her eyes
She held me spellbound in the night
Dancing shadows and firelight
Crazy laughter in another room
And she drove herself to madness with a silver spoon
Woo-hoo, witchy woman
See how high she flies
Woo-hoo, witchy woman
She got the moon in her eyes
Well, I know you want a lover
Let me tell you, brother
She's been sleepin' in the Devil's bed
And there's some rumors going 'round
Someone's underground
She can rock you in the nighttime 'til your skin turns red
Boo hauling herself onto the branch, whilst dribbling away!!

Don`t usually take pigeon shots but this caught my eye on the way home from the hospital. Taken with my phone. All sheltering from the gale force wind.

Silhouette shots are so hard to get right. I kind of missed here as Della is not in silhouette because she is too close to me and blocked by Tug. I did like the bird right above Tug's head though and I did like his happy demeanor in his silhouette so I decided to post this. I got a sweet shot of Della all by herself in the grasses last night too. It's right next to this photo on my photo stream.

She was warming herself by the fire. That special night was coming soon. She wasn't quite sure what to make of the whole thing. Her little piggy friend seemed just as perplexed.
"All I really know," she began, "is that when the weather gets colder, some wait with excitement as a man makes his way down chimneys."
She looked down at her little friend's grumpy face. "You don't like your outfit? I think you look wonderful!"
There was a soft sound coming from behind her and she grinned slightly. "I am still quite perplexed myself, but it is always nice to meet new friends."
The noise behind her grew louder still as the fire went out.
"OH! It's you! Welcome back my friend, it is good to see you again..." she said warmly.

Onset of winter in Vienna
Near the Donauweibchenbrunnen, a fountain in the Stadtpark (City Park)
In a Viennese legend the Donauweibchen ("Danube Maiden") is a benevolent water spirit, who warned fishermen against dangers of flooding, but also was a danger for young fishermen herself.
was more than a dream, it was a place she needed to visit to find herself. And when she returned to the city, you could see the sun in her eyes, the wind in her hair, and taste the infinite salt in her lips.” – Jose Chavez
Beautiful morning by the pier!

The leaves dance to the rhythm of the wind, painting the ground with fiery shades of red. She walks softly, wrapped in her cozy sweater and scarf, savoring this moment of calm at the heart of the enchanted forest. Each step brings her closer to what she seeks: a moment for herself, far from the chaos. The cold brushes against her skin, but her spirit feels warm, filled with serenity. This walk isn’t just a detour; it’s a reminder that sometimes, beauty lies in the simplicity of an autumn breeze
We are nearing the 3 month mark of Alyeska's gotcha day. In the short time she's been with us, she has transitioned from being completely scared of everything and everyone to a happy rambunctious ball of energy. This was taken at about 5 weeks mark when she started to show first signs of confidence, still a bit cautious. At this point, she and I have a full on tug of war and she hates to lose.😊
