Serial #: 33058 Crashed at Palma 01-04-1991 due a fire on one engine during take-off ,operating for Aeromarket with EC-EQH reg.

On Labor Day weekend, a severe heatwave, strong Santa Ana winds, and a severe drought resulted in two explosive fires in Southern California. The Radford fire has burned up to 330 acres near Big Bear, CA. On the other hand, Fairview fire has scorched 2,400 acres in Hemet, CA. Two people have died while fleeing and one other is injured with burns. Seven structures have been destroyed and 5,000 more threatened.

Update: The Fairview Fire prompted a State of Emergency in Riverside County after burning 19,000 acres. Governor Newsom sent additional firefight resources, totaling about 5,000 firefighters to contain the wildfire.

Fairview Fire would make history as the first wildfire documented in California to interact with a tropical depression. Hurricane Kay was a double edge sword which first brought strong winds to fuel the wildfire and lightning strikes before bringing rain to contain the spread of the fire. The deadly wildfire burned a total of 28,098 acres.

The Cal Fire Marsh Trackers are maintained in immaculate conditions. These two Trackers are not normally based at Hemet and I was happy to see them for the first time. Once again, the Cal Fire staff are so friendly and welcoming to visitors.

It's a bit of a challenge to get to the public picnic area at this lake, but it has nice views. To see more pictures of the lake go to Batteredsuitcase.net and the post on the "Palms to Pines Road Trip"
