The shipwreck of Olympia at Amorgos (which ironically was previously called ‘Inland’) sank in February 1980. The captain was seeking for a place near the coast where they could find shelter from the strong north winds. But they were helpless and the rough sea threw them into the bay of Liverio near to the beach of Kalotaritissa. Luckily the whole crew was rescued. The shipwreck is in many scenes of the movie “The Big Blue” by Luc Besson. It’s also a popular diving spot on the island.

This was probably the youngest gosling that I've ever encountered. It never really quite opened its eyes and kept peeping. The parent was close by and seemed to be encouraging the precious gosling to swim away from the safety of the shoreline. It was one of those times that my heartstrings were pulled the whole time I was taking images.

UPDATE: I saw that authorities dragged this boat, using a large tractor, ashore when the tide went out. The owners didn't claim the boat, and the shore authorities broke the boat up and sent it to scrap. Sad ending.
The sculpture was constructed by the Chilean sculptor Mario Irarrázabal at an altitude of 1,100 meters above sea level. Its exaggerated size is said to emphasize human vulnerability and helplessness.
The sculpture also was meant to convey emotions related to injustice, loneliness, sadness and torture.

This little Common Murre chick was alone on the water. I watched it jump from the cliffs of the colony at Grand Colombier in St. Pierre and Miquelon in France. Chicks jump from heights as high as 1500 ft! Sadly I also watched many jump and be eaten by Great Black-backed Gulls, despite the distress of the helpless adults. This little one was successfully reunited with its parent who was waiting on the water. The males teach the chicks how to hunt for food. You can see a picture of the adult reunited with the chick in the next photo.

And with all the tragedy happening all over the world, what should I say about it?
But what is happening in Myanmar continues to shake my heart. In the face of the tragedy of the world, what I can do is too small. I always feel helpless.
Still, I commend the courage of the Myanmar people to march unarmed toward the army in search of freedom and peace.

Postscript Note
There has been a coup by the military in Myanmar and the democratic government has been sealed off. People are protesting without weapons, but the military is pulling the trigger on them and killing their own people. And those who are seeking peace are being violently arrested and tortured. This is the kind of unreasonable and inhumane oppression that happens in dystopian movies.
Yet people continue to protest without weapons for peace and freedom. Under the threat of COvid, of course.
The military regime often shuts down the Internet and restricts journalism. We cannot know everything that is going on in Myanmar right now, but the world must continue to watch what is going on in Myanmar.
