This is my corner in our helpdesk area, my "second desk" or "alcove". Trying to configure a new test server, FreeNAS box, Ubuntu desktop, and a new Windows 7 workstation at the same time. It's also about 85 degrees in my corner.

I hadn't pulled a self portrait out of my hat today, when I had inspiration hit.
I was on the phone - Skype actually, with a headset on - with my brother Nick. I was playing computer help desk guy, giving him some detailed advice on getting a replacement computer. Nick & Mary Ann's desktop died. I was going step by step through the configuration, he on his notebook, me on mine, screen by screen. We got it done in record time - for us.
In the middle of the conversation, I thought about the self portrait, and asked my bride Karen to please to the honors.
I like this wide-angle view. My big sock covered feet leading the eye up to my headset covered noggin.
I have a Thinkpad sitting on a Lapinator heat dissipation pad - gotta protect me from both the heat and any potential exploding batteries (so far Thinkpad has avoided that problem).
Just me, being the tech-geek that I am.

Begin deze maand is het handelsverdrag tussen de EU en Japan, ook de EU-JAP Economic Partnership Agreement genoemd, in werking getreden. Daarmee is de grootste handelsovereenkomst die de EU ooit met een derde land heeft gesloten een feit. Het verdrag omvat nagenoeg een derde van het wereldwijde BBP en bijna 550 miljoen mensen. Het verdrag biedt Nederlandse en Europese bedrijven veel mogelijkheden.
Bijna 90% van de invoertarieven voor goederen is tot nul teruggebracht, en dit gaat naar bijna 100%. Daarnaast is een groot aantal non-tarifaire barrières afgeschaft. Ook is vanaf heden de Japanse markt voor dienstverleners vanuit de EU veel toegankelijker. En om het handelen met Japan te vergemakkelijken is speciaal voor het MKB een EPA helpdesk in het leven geroepen.
Om de voordelen van het EPA breed uit te meten, is donderdag 7 februari voor bedrijven een informatiebijeenkomst. Deze bijeenkomst wordt geopend door de Minister voor Buitenlandse Handel en Ontwikkelingssamenwerking Sigrid Kaag en is mede georganiseerd met voorzitter Hans de Boer van VNO/NCW, in samenwerking met RVO en NLinBusiness.

Es ist eine Hommage an den Container, der von der Satiresendung "Basta" des flämischen Fernsehens dem Mobilfunkanbieter Mobistar (heute: orange) nachts vor die Zufahrt zum Mitarbeiterparkplatz gestellt wurde.
Der Mobilfunkanbieter war für den schlechten Kundenservice seines Callcenters berüchtigt. Im Wikipedia-eintrag des Unternehmens steht dazu noch heute zu lesen:
In januari 2011 was Mobistar onderwerp van landelijke spot, nadat het satirische programma Basta een aflevering aan de helpdeskperikelen van het bedrijf wijdde.
(Im Januar 2011 wurde Mobistar landesweit verspottet, nachdem die Satiresendung Basta eine Folge über die Probleme des Helpdesks des Unternehmens ausgestrahlt hatte.)
