Love how Helen's stood in front of a tall building whilst Luke is sitting in front of a low fence. Complete fluke of composition.

Helen was a dying lumber town in 1967. Many of it's residents had been stationed in Bavaria during and after World War II. So they came up with the idea of making the town into the Bavaria of the Appalachians. It worked, and now it's a thriving tourist town.

GST Voles day at Maulden Heath 1/11/2016 TL067385

Dear All,

Thanks to everyone who came down to Maulden Heath for the task yesterday - despite the gloomy weather it was a good day. It was nice to have a good fire and you

can certainly see where we've been!

Next week's task is Maulden Heath again; meet at the Picnic Area at 10am (map attached) for more scrub control but this time in Wakely's Field.

Have a good week.

Regards, Tim Countryside Ranger

Dear Tim et al

It was almost a pleasure being there, smoked to death, scorched by flying embers, soaked by knee high wet vegetation & on/off drizzle, trying to avoid the ample

supply of buns & donuts, insulted continuously by fellow voles and deprived from getting photographed doing stuff :)

Having said that & despite the gloomy day it was quite a photo suitable day for dark autumnal atmosphere and after viewing my humble efforts hopefully you will all

agree. I particularly liked the white harebell & the gossamer jewels & of course Malcolm's red hot cone.
