My first visit to the beautifully maintained Hebden Bridge station catches GBRf 'Tug' unit 60087 wheeling through with the 7.22am Liverpool Biomass Terminal - Drax (6E09) loaded wooden pellets.
The station here, which also boasts a cafe, stands in stark contrast to many others in Yorkshire where the Victorian buildings have been swept away and replaced by cold, unwelcoming bus-style shelters on bleak windswept platforms. This architectural vandalism wasn't one of British Rail's finest hours - thankfully many of the remaining buildings are now Listed Status, which at least gives them some protection and raises their public profile.
The gentleman here seems pretty relaxed and is happily distracted by the passing freight train.

Our walk on this Sunday took us to Hebden Bridge and a wander towards Gibson Mill on the Hardcastle Crags route. In my wisdom, knowing I had a bit of knee bother, Clough Hole car park looked closer to the destination, oh did I not realise how steep the decent into the valley bottom was, oh well, we managed it and I'd actually say down was worse than up for once!
Anyway, we did make it and had some nice relaxing time around Gibson Mill and my first shot of they day actually turned out to be a toilet block hence the title. There's still so much colour hanging on in the lower valleys and down by Heben Beck was no different. It was mainly quite grey and flat all morning though so the odd fleeting brightness (not gonna say full sunlight) was the best we got. Still I think it was beautiful down there and would definitely go again, maybe walking the flat part next time and hopefully the sunlight won't appear when we are half way back to the car next time!
I think I've only been to this waterfall a couple of times.. two waterfalls for the price of one ;-)
An image shot at the picturesque Hebden Bridge Station, last Summer. I really love the old Ex L&Y Signal Box.

A day in the life of Hebden Bridge's Horse Bench www.hebdenbridge.co.uk/news/2014/062.html - has a link to the "day in the life of" time lapse video by Steve Morgan.
"The Horse Bench was installed on the banks of the Rochdale Canal in Hebden Bridge at the end of 2013....The sculptural feature on the Canal is part of a series of interpretative artworks that have been installed as part of the Canal Connections project. The bench specifically commemorates the important role that horses played in relation to the Canal through history. The bench was commissioned by Pennine Prospects, designed by Lucy Casson, cast by Hargreaves Foundry and funded by South Pennines Leader."

This austere ruin of Raistrick Greave is high up on the Moors above Widdop. A very worthy subject for landscape photography and brought to our attention by fellow Fickr member Terry Roberts. Terry invited 3 of us to join him on a foray up onto the moors to capture this ruin in the moody evening light. We set off hoping for decent conditions and after a walk in via the Gorple Reservoir we managed a good hour taking various angles of this old farmstead.
The weather started to close in after an hour and we could see that it was going to rain heavily. The 3 sensible ones amongst the group had got all their photography done and had their kit safely packed up before the rain storm approached. However, as we were ready to depart the storm rider "Muddy Boots" was still in fully tripodded guise. We challenged his lunacy and he just said he was waiting for the epic bad weather shot, well 10 minutes later he was saturated and had his wooly hat over his lens! Not sure what type of image he had in mind, but we will reserve judgement until the said image is revealed.
All in all a good evening was had even if we were a little drenched when we got back to the cars. Thanks Terry.
Good job I took a shot of the information sign, as Mr Google is not being helpful...
This is one of the fish passes built for Yorkshire Water, it is down stream of the Eastwood Wastewater Treatment Works.
The contract partner was Ward and Burke and it was probably completed towards the end of 2019.
They put a sloping face on the weir at a gradient that will allow the brown trout to pass up and down the river.
Note - 14th Jan - I have rather cheekily added this to Stairs for Saturday group as it is now Saturday, and a fish pass / ladder might count as stairs, if the admins feel generous :-)

What a difference an hour makes... from my earlier posting with the rain lashing down to bright sunshine and t-shirt weather!
What I missed out photography wise, the full breakfast, coffees, cakes and beer stops made up for it all. Worth another visit and maybe squeeze in Gibson Mill next time.
Well, I say branching out, it's more like a return to decent habits I hope! Time to drop some excess winter baggage again (from winter 2019 I think its hung around) it has to go. Easy walks in the woods that feel like an expidition lead to reflection on this that are not right.
Speaking of things that didn't seem right, we couldn't understand how bright some of the moss was during our walk up to Gibson Mill, it was dank and grey, foggy and damp but goodness, some of the moss was so bright it looked fake to the naked eye let alone when one goes ham with the colour sliders.... you all know what I mean!
So this will be the old me signing off, the new me will return in 2022 focused and sans some weight, prepared to make changes to my pretty poor lifestyle choices right now. I wish you all success for the coming year and have a wonderful Christmas with family anf friends wherever possible and above all, a safe and illness free one.
