The Mill is various forms dates back over 700 years when in 1314 Sir John de Thornhill (Knight) Lord of the Manor of Wadsworth was given permission to construct a mill on the Wadsworth bank of the river. On Sir John's a few years after the Mill was built his widow passed the tenancy to a Stephen the Miller. By 1514 the Mill was leased by the Draper family from the Lord of the Manor. Following the Black Death the cloth industry became highly profitable and the lease of the Mill passed through numerous families. During all of this time new lease holders negotiated improvents to the building and its water power system, with the freehold remaining with the Lords of the Manor until 1895, when purchased by Messrs Greenwood and Pickles, clothing manufacturers of Hebden Bridge. They operated mainly on the upper floors, sub-letting the bulk of the ground floor to a variety of other uses --- a smithy where the Innovation shop is today, with a sweet shop next to the bridge, and a Tripe which in itself propered during the years of rationing during and immeadiatly after World War II, when offal was exempt from rationing. Greenwood and Pickles operated throughout the war years, running their sewing machines on direct current electricity powered by the waterwheel, to overcome power shortages on the national grid and continued to do so until closure in 1956. After which the building rapidly fell into disrepair the loss of the mill and other simular business also led to a decline within the town itself.
In the 1960s the cheap properties attracted a new type of resident, the hippies, who brought with them an artisan way of life. Followed in the late 1970's and 1980's by the new breed of Yuppie from Manchester and other towns, bringing with them new wealth and industry and in turn reviving the towns fortunes.
The Mill was saved with a renovation that brought with it new businesss such as the Innovation Cafe, a Visitors Centre and numerous retail outlets, With illustrated wall panels and a historic timeline to outline its eventful history, as one of the oldest industrial buildings in the country The old waterwheel has been restored in parallel with a new Archimedes Screw to generate electricity from the river AND, in addition to operate two large water source Heatpumps, to take heat from the river for all hot water and central heating in the building.

An update on the condense water problem with my air-to-air heatpump. Now it's so cold (-21°C today) that the water freezes before it hits the now in thick ice layers covered "run off"-plate I put up. The stalactite meets the stalagmite... Despite the bottom plate is heated.
It was drizzling, raining this morning and all day. It was so humid that the windows, door knobs were wet outside. In the city, many apartments had wet walls - as we have heatpump for heating, we turned on the AC to avoid getting wet walls. I ventured outside with my camera to see these tiny droplets on the plants.
I used a Sigma ring flash to darken the background.

This graphic shows how a flexible heat pump works. This newer heat pump design, by thermal engineer Zhibin Yu of the University of Glasgow, stores residual heat that would otherwise be wasted and uses it to help heat the house or defrost part of the pump itself. This makes the system more efficient.

This is pretty much Clio's favorite video of Carolyn, ever. We both have watched this 25+ times and laughed. Even Oranjello was concerned about Carolyn's screaming, and eventually went back down the attic stairs. Poor Carolyn. This is a job neither of us could handle well. Major props to Carolyn for doing the "man's work" in that situation.
...
BACKSTORY:
Our heat pump was not keeping up. Carolyn went to attic to see if the coils were dirty. When she took off the first panel, she found a dead fried mouse corpse in the electric wires. She had to dig it out with her gloved hands because it was all disintegrated. The coils were all frosted over, and she used the thermal heat gun to thaw them out, but then an hour later, they were iced over again.
Environment Control came to diagnose the problem. He said we were out of refrigerant and also switched out our thermostat. But he switched it with an inferior model that was not comparable to our original thermostat! Ours let us set a different schedule every day of the week, because Friday night you stay up later than on Thursday! I asked him THREE TIMES IN A ROW to ensure that it would do this. As far as I'm concerned, he lied to our face.
So he had to come back. and he switched it out with a programmable thermostat that also has wifi. About a month later, the wifi on the thermostat broke. After talking to Honeywell, they said it sounded like it was a defective and/or a defective install, and they said the guy needed to return it for the warranty. Carolyn tried to schedule him to return to take a look at it. His first excuse was a tree fell on his house. This turned out to be true. He kept not coming. Eventually, Carolyn had to file a credit card dispute because he was getting unresponsive and wouldn't show up for the appointments he made to check on the thermostat. Eventually, we got all our money back. So we got a free fix to our heat. It only came with a huge headache of having to follow-up and deal with the issue for months afterward.
