For Smile on Saturday theme 'Portray the Name of a Music Band'.
Canned Heat was an American blues and rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1965. They took their name from a 1928 song 'Canned Heat Blues' about an alcoholic who had turned to drinking Sterno, a jellied form of denatured alcohol (poisonous) meant to be burned in a tin and generically called 'Canned Heat'.
I had never heard of Sterno when I got the idea for this photograph and only discovered this when I googled for Canned Heat. Oddly enough, the flames in this photo were provided by a few small twigs and a gel combustible fuel containing denatured alcohol! The tin was safely placed inside my wood-burning stove before igniting.
We see it as a large round red ball only because we are much closer to the Sun than to any of the other stars.
The sun is a big ball of gas and plasma. Most of the gas — 91 percent — is hydrogen. It is converted into energy in the sun's core. The energy moves outward through the interior layers, into the sun's atmosphere, and is released into the solar system as heat and light.
A tiny CP T07 rolls west in the heat with only 6 cars from IKO in tow. The early morning mine run was cut short after they came across about 300ft of washed out trackage. They turned back for Havelock yard and were only able to take a few valuable loads from IKO to Toronto.
It has been a long, baking hot summer in the south this year. Atlanta’s average temp has been 90 F to 96 F, not including the heat index from the unbelievable humidity. So many days feeling like over 100 F. I am so ready and longing for the cool temps of Fall and the beautiful colors. Here the setting sun shines brightly across Lake Winnipesaukee as a rainbow of color reflects along the shoreline on a beautiful Fall day in New Hampshire.
From nature back to industrial aesthetics.
I really like the hidden beauty of the form follows function approach in industrial settings.
This photo was taken in the Energiezentrale Forsthaus in Bern.
The heat continues here in Europe reaching as high as +45 °C in some locations. Perfect weather to hang out on the beach pretending I know how to surf those waves….

Unfortunately i could not get the whole reflection onto the photo, because right under the bottom of this photo, there's the balustrade of the bridge from which i was shooting this. And by the way, this is nearly the same place as in "the blue hour", just needed to turn around

"Away from the city heat to Craighead!!!!"
A drawing on a wall in the kitchen of Craighead House near Boiling Springs, PA.
I had to photograph through a protective plastic sheet as the ceiling was being replastered. I hope to return again soon to photograph more of the exciting artwork left by various authors and artists who visited Craighead House over its 100+ year history.
As the Blue Angels rolled on the runway you can see the heat rising from the ground.
Heat distortion is caused when light is refracted through air of differing densities. Hot air is less dense than cold air, so light waves are bent differently in hot versus cold air. The result is visible heat waves when there is a significant temperature difference between the ground and the air above it.
