Risk is, by nature, scary. It's uncertain and unpredictable. You're heading off into uncharted territory. You may lose your life savings or lose face. You risk criticism and humiliation, or having to pick up the pieces and start all over again. You're giving up what you know for what might be. The rewards can be great, but so can the cost.
So, why would anybody want to take a risk?
Risk gives you an opportunity to open up to your talents, interests, abilities and dreams. Risk teaches you to set clear goals and follow through. Risk allows you to feel powerful and proactive, making things happen rather than waiting for them to happen to you. Risk opens you up to new ideas, skills, opportunities and experiences. Risk allows you to grow and discover new things about yourself and the world, to develop your strengths and talents. Risk allows you to conquer your fears.

Beetles have mouthparts similar to those of grasshoppers. Of these parts, the most commonly known are probably the mandibles, which appear as large pincers on the front of some beetles. The mandibles are a pair of hard, often tooth-like structures that move horizontally to grasp, crush, or cut food or enemies (see defence, below). Two pairs of finger-like appendages are found around the mouth in most beetles, serving to move food into the mouth. These are the maxillary and labial palpi.
The eyes are compound and may display remarkable adaptability, as in the case of whirligig beetles (family Gyrinidae), in which the eyes are split to allow a view both above and below the waterline. Other species also have divided eyes — some longhorn beetles (family Cerambycidae) and weevils — while many beetles have eyes that are notched to some degree. A few beetle genera also possess ocelli, which are small, simple eyes usually situated farther back on the head (on the vertex).
Beetles' antennae are primarily organs of smell, but may also be used to feel out a beetle's environment physically. They may also be used in some families during mating, or among a few beetles for defence. Antennae vary greatly in form within the Coleoptera, but are often similar within any given family. In some cases, males and females of the same species will have different antennal forms. Antennae may be clavate (flabellate and lamellate are sub-forms of clavate, or clubbed antennae), filiform, geniculate, moniliform, pectinate, or serrate. For images of these antennal forms see antenna (biology).
The legs, which are multi-segmented, end in two to five small segments called tarsi. Like many other insect orders beetles bear claws, usually one pair, on the end of the last tarsal segment of each leg. While most beetles use their legs for walking, legs may be variously modified and adapted for other uses. Among aquatic families — Dytiscidae, Haliplidae, many species of Hydrophilidae and others — the legs, most notably the last pair, are modified for swimming and often bear rows of long hairs to aid this purpose. Other beetles have fossorial legs that are widened and often spined for digging. Species with such adaptations are found among the scarabs, ground beetles, and clown beetles (family Histeridae). The hind legs of some beetles, such as flea beetles (within Chrysomelidae) and flea weevils (within Curculionidae), are enlarged and designed for jumping.
So I made it back to Bodie despite the right suspension of my SUV was giving up. I was greeted by this set up when I entered the kitchen of this house in town. Very thoughtful of them.

Having missed it travelling up to Westport on Thursday, I made sure of getting the future Belmond loco 216 on the return! It is seen coming into Portarlington with the 1105 Westport - Waterford laden timber.
this is not the final livery, but merely an undercoat, pending completion of loco trials (first use since August 2009)

It was such a fluke to have captured this image. I didn't even look at the viewfinder to do this. I can't even lie on my tummy because the ground was so wet. This was under the beautiful tree full of yellow leaves. I even remembered Charlie saying how much she loves the tree.

This project explores the emotional trauma and heartache that I have felt whilst living away from home. Home has become a mere word to describe a residency or place to live and breathe. I miss the place I call home, but I don’t want to be there. I have battled the emotions of yearning for comfort, yet I always want to explore. Home, to me, is now a place that is discovered. It’s a state of mind.'
It's been a few months now since my end of year show and I thought now was the time to release my latest project on the internet. I've kept it close to my heart for a while because I needed some breathing space away from focusing on those profound emotions.
I've had so many people reach out to me about the project, more than I could ever imagine, and for that I am ever grateful! I've teared up so many times when people have thanked me for the comfort that my project has brought to them too. (You know who you are! Thank you!) I am so grateful because I feel that I achieved what I set out to accomplish. I've even made new friends in those people!

We have finally exchanged contracts for the sale of our house and purchase of another one in Walton on the Naze on the Essex coast. I wonder if the gulls will keep us awake at night! I've still got images from our Canada trip that I want to post, but we're going to be pretty busy packing and arranging things for our move over the next couple of weeks. I think that as I have said before
even now
it is the things I did as a child that keep me grounded
and maybe in 2008
I rather lost sight of me
my passions, desires and goals
as my little business shot off into the stratosphere
leaving behind it many tough things to contend with.
Oh and a busted car in 2008

but my old banger is still with me
and I do not think I will ever want to part with it.

Quite harsh I suppose but to be honest it was not THE best year
Maybe the sun was moving over Venus and setting in Mercury
my biorhythms were dancing to a heavy beat
or maybe it was just a very long run of bad luck.
Nowt too harsh though but simply a year where nothing much moved on in my life
but lots creatively and reflectively
a fair bargain I suppose.
New Year's Eve

and look forward to the new one
with childlike eyes, wonderment and anticipation.

see more of friends and family
walk more

and slow down.
The latter being the most important
as last year was a blur
as I bumbled through in the bubble of my work
and have popped out the other end
slightly dazed
confused
but ready

to make this year to come

with my chums
and celebrate the end .....

Happy to have a *Bench* for Bench Monday, but not very happy about the Holiday Farm/McKenzie Fire which burned, melted, charred and scarred so much of the town of Blue River. I think this particular place may have been sort of a wrecking yard, but I'm not sure. I was on a side road. I think in front, he may have worked on cars or machines or something. It is surely a mess now. Whatever his livelihood was, I think it's a disaster for him now.
The fire also took a toll on other towns such as Vida, Nimrod and Rainbow. I'm not sure about Leaburg and Deerhorn.
My daughter and granddaughter completely lost their home, but this was not their place.
I think I spotted a baseball trophy which is tiny, and I'll mark it. Then right in front of my eyes when I saw this bench, was something that didn't register with me what it was. I think I probably thought of it as some sort of orange plastic legs for the planter stand. When preparing this picture, I realized there is a gaping hole in the planter, and the heat from the fire melted quite a bit of the plastic, making it spew out like lava from a volcano.

Having a rare trip back into its original branded route, 4898 pauses at the Parkhill Estate terminus in Allesley, nearing the end of its journey to Coventry on the X1.
Birmingham Central depot received buses 4895-4913 in 2013 to upgrade routes 900 and 957, 4895-4902 received light green 900 branding, whilst 4909-4913 received dark green 957 branding. In 2015 Platinum spec 6701-6718 arrived to replace these, being replaced again just 18 months later in late 2015 by the present batch, 6825-6854. It was at this point that the two routes were renumbered as X1 & X2, to denote their limited stop status over the 60.

Finally warm enough to head to Dog Beach and Max couldn't be happier. This pleases me, the boy and the dog which makes for a very happy household.

I have to admit that I'm pretty surprised how much Loxia lenses have changed the way I approach my own family photography. For me the key thing here is manual focusing. Now, I'm going to be very straight here and say that it's definitely a challenge with the kids. It's difficult to guide them and they tend to move all the time which makes focusing difficult – so difficult that I would actually hesitate to recommend Loxia lenses for family photography.
But, there's another side in this picture too. While the focusing is somewhat difficult with the moving kids, I find myself thinking my pictures a lot more before I even pick up the camera. There are scenarios I won't even try with manual focus and the ones I do want to photograph I find myself studying them a bit before I decide how to act. It's totally different approach that I have had with autofocus lenses – with them I used to poke around without thinking so much and trying out all sort of things in a hurry. This, and the fact that it's difficult to photograph certain kind of scenes with manual focusing, leads me to take different kind of pictures. Which in turn changes my approach and style with family photography. And even if it is 'limiting because I cannot capture it all – just to be sure', I find a very refreshing. To be honest, at first I thought that having limits would lead me to situation where I feel 'I'm losing important moments', but now it seems that actually I wasn't very sure what those important moments would be – I was just shooting all kinds of situations without really thinking first. This also shows how many pictures I take from one scenario, a lot less with Loxias than I did with any autofocus lenses. In a whole I feel it's making me, if not better, then at least a different kind of photographer. Though I need to add that I can't imagine of giving up all autofocus lenses. They are very useful and perhaps more productive in some ways, but there is definitely something in going 'manual focus' once in a while.

I have been working a lot recently and the stress level in my life has been very high with work. It is part of a cycle that has, thankfully, crested; I think. Today is about rest, relaxation, and rejuvenation. It is sunny outside. The birds are busy at the feeders. My son willingly helped me with my concept for an ODC I had come to mind this morning. Now I am heading out for a drive in the country with the love of my life. Later, I will be enjoying a feast of seafood and cake, created with love, especially for me.
I am grateful for weekends off :-)
In the end of November Tequila travelled to Sweden for date with Danish and Swedish Champion Hickson Johnny be Good. 20.01.2014 puppies were born. Three red girls and two black boys.
I have built a Dodge Charger before, and its design and was the starting point for my General Lee model. The current model is wider and far more detailed, by the side profile is very similar.
