As you saw from my photos at pre-dawn and dawn on Wednesday, there was dense fog in Central Tucson and the Catalina Foothills. The fog was still dense during the early stages of Ned Harris' Nature Walk in Sabino Canyon. The water droplets that condensed on the web from the high humidity in the heavy morning fog make the web very visible and give it that crocheted look.

« Iran: year 38 » ( 38 years of Iranian photographs)
It is not a coincidence that Iran has so many photographers. When today’s Iranians want to express themselves, they use the tools given to them by history. The modern version of poetry is photography, of course. Images, photojournalism, documentary or art are visual poetry, if you will. With this exhibition, we want to introduce those who are shaping the image of Iran today. A very diverse mix of photographers, artists and filmmakers portraying a country still caught up in revolution and war, but also fast-changing beyond recognition. Iran is both a young and an old country at the same time. Thousands of years of history have come before the 1979 Islamic revolution. We start counting again from that year.
Iran: year 38, is to be an exhibition celebrating the culture of visual poetry embraced by Iranians.

Their version of 'bon appétit'.
Where you can refuel after the walk with Amman's best hummus and falafel platters. Queuing at downtown's legendary falafel eatery.
You haven’t tried falafel until you’ve eaten here. This legendary eatery, more than 50 years old, is so popular with locals and visitors that there’s stiff competition for tables, many of which overflow into the alleyway. Aim for an early lunch or supper if you want to avoid queues, although Hashem does a fantastic job of feeding the multitude in record time.
Mid-afternoon, it makes a great place to sup a mint tea and watch downtown slide towards siesta. Either way, flag down a waiter for falafel, hummus, fuul (fava bean paste) and glasses of scaling hot mint tea.

Danielle Pergament of The New York Times described Ammani cuisine as a product of several cuisines in the region, writing that it combines "the bright vegetables from Lebanon, crunchy falafels from Syria, juicy kebabs from Egypt and, most recently, spicy meat dishes from Jordan's neighbor, Iraq. It's known as the food of the Levant — an ancient word for the area bounded by the Mediterranean Sea and the Arabian peninsula. But the food here isn't just the sum of its calories. In this politically, religiously and ethnically fraught corner of the world, it is a symbol of bloodlines and identity." However, the city's streetfood scene makes the Ammani cuisine distinctive.

Happy Rosh Hashannah ~~ Rosh HaShanna 5773 (aka 2012) -- May You, May Your, Always...

We celebrate Rosh Hashanah with sweet foods, like apples dipped in honey and honey cake, as a wish for a sweet year. Some families also celebrate with symbolic foods like the head of a fish, pomegranates, and carrots.
The head of a fish is so that we can be "like the head and not like the tail." This is a symbol of having a year in which we are on top and not the bottom. Pomegranates are symbolic of plenty. Have you ever tried to count how many seeds there are in a pomegranate? Far too many to count. We want plenty of health and happiness for the New Year, just as many good things as there are seed in a pomegranate.
We also eat carrots, and it isn't just to see better in the dark. For Ashkenazi Jews, carrots symbolize the Yiddish word "merren" which also means more. We want more of all the good things in life. More health, more happiness, more success. For Sephardic Jews, carrots are symbolic of the phrase "Yikaretu oyveychem" which means may your enemies be cut down. We ask that those who wish bad for us not get their wish, that they don't succeed.
And of course, we have round Challot made with honey and raisins. These are another symbol of a sweet and happy year. We put decorations on the Challot, such as birds (symbolizing doves of peace).
Rosh Hashanah starts on the first day of Tishrei and lasts two days. Rosh Hashanah is the beginning of the Yamim Noraim, the ten days of atonement.
On Rosh Hashanah, all mankind is judged. HaShem writes the judgment for each of us in the Book of Life. This judgment is based on our lives of the year before, and is the decision of what will happen to us in the coming year.
But the judgment is not final. The days between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur give us a time to change the judgment for good. We are given the chance to improve our coming year through Teshuvah (asking forgiveness), Tefillah (prayer), and Tzedakah (charity).
On Rosh Hashanah we wish each other "L'Shanah Tovah Tikatevuh" may you be written in for a good year. But Rosh HaShanah is not the end of the judgment, it is only on Yom Kippur that our judgment is made final.

Everyone in the Universe will be judged this coming Tuesday and Wednesday.
Each person's judgement for the coming year is inscribed in the "Book of Life." One's judgement is not sealed until Yom Kippur, the Day of Return and Repentance, the following week. It's amazing how that ten days can lead to so much really focused thinking. I'm praying for me, my family , and my friends, for all our government officials, and for the lots and lots of good people everywhere. We can easily cover the known universe that way...;)) Yes, exponentials are very powerful...;))
