Shortly before Thanksgiving, 2012, my beloved (7+ year old) G5 Quad Mac Pro powered down... never to power back up again.

I'm not a computer guy... I'm a designer/photographer guy. I awakened my Mac from sleep every morning, and we did wonderfully creative things together. Until 'that day'. Yes... I found all kinds of online suggestions to bring it back to life... and I painstakingly worked through a lot of them. No joy. Blank stares. Now what?

I had a true 'computer guy' come and take a look. Within minutes he had boards and cables and hard drives and who-knows-what-all scattered across my desk... poking and prodding with all kinds of test equipment. The tone of his 'Mmmmmmm... how long has this red light been visible at boot-up?'' dampened my hopes that it was just some kind of relatively simple fix. Nope. Unresponsive logic board. Dead. Not worth further repair, considering it is several generations old... 'pre-Intel'.

Yeah, I more than got my money's worth from this machine over the years. Yeah, it's a dinosaur. And yeah, it has limited me by not being able to run the (much better) 'Intel-only' versions of the software I use every day. Still... was sad to see it go out in that way.
