A shot taken at East Perth. East Perth is adjacent to the CBD and contains a mixture of Industrial, commercial and residential. This was a bright winters day and the colours were sensational. No edit, straight out of the camera.

A view of Lake Hanson, Cradle Mountain - Lake St Clair National Park - World Heritage Area. Tasmania.

Plough Hill (705m) at the end of the central ridge. The conifer-looking trees in the lower foreground are endemic Pencil Pine (Athrotaxis cupressoides) along with a scattering of winter-bare Fagus (Nothofagus gunnii) in the left corner of the frame.

Tasmania experienced both sheet and glacial erosion in the Pleistocene Age leaving Lake Hanson a remnant, hanging glacial lake. The Hanson river rises at the far end of the lake before plunging down to meet the much larger Forth River. Both valleys the result of glaciers trundling to the sea. The hills in the far distance are part of the famous Walls of Jerusalem National Park.

Once again, would have liked a lot more snow but it wasn't going to happen... Next time.

Only a short while earlier I had seen this in action, but it was too far away for me to do anything useful with it...

In wonderful early morning light, Hanson & Hall English Electric 'Hoover' Class 50 Co-Co no.50 008 'Thunderer' heads the The Branch Line Societies Derby to Saltburn “Saltburn Alternative”. This tour was originally to be the “Whitby Endeavour”, however because of engineering work in the Esk Valley the itinerary was changed.

Hansons Peak (1185m) from Marions Lookout on the opposite side of Dove Lake.

Of interest is the King Billy Pine forest (Athrotaxis selaginoides) on the lower slopes and a small merkin of Fagus (Nothofagus gunnii) clinging to the crevices of the Precambrian cliffs.

A very thin sliver of Dove Lake shows at the foot of the cliff where the lake circuit walking track is hidden among the trees. The Twisted Lakes Track is visible making its way up and over the peak.

Hanson - Northampton, MA - The Calvin Theater - 11/15/10

This was trail Section # 23. It is one of the harder trails to get to as it is at least 2 or more miles from any trail head.

I had not been on this trail in nearly 20+ years.

With all the foliage down it was spectacular.

I'll definitely be coming back to explore those rocks.

I have two sections left! Almost done with the challenge. However it will be bittersweet to have taken on such a huge goal and then complete it!

This hike included a few funny Mishaps....

Celebrity 'Shed' 66721 'Harry Beck' was the traction for this morning loaded stone to Hanson Ashton-in-Makerfield, seen here traversing Haydock Branch Junction.

* Harry Beck was the man who redesigned the London Tube Map and was paid the princely sum of £10 for doing so.

Very apt as I saw Portillo talking about him last night on Great Railway Journeys.

A hike in the dark is such a normal way to start the day when immersed in landscape photography. This one involved hiking up a steep and rough track, over a ridge line to another glacial valley in the alpine highlands of northwest Tasmania ( that's bottom of the world, turn right). Hunt for a spot, scouted out the day before, and then sit in sweet silence and solitude, as dawn arrives, with it's magical gift of light.

" It is in the land, I once thought, that one searches out and eventually finds what is beautiful. And an edge of this deep and rarified beauty is the acceptance of complex paradox and the forgiveness of others. It means you will not die alone."

A recently grade separated intersection was built over the Staples Sub in Coon Rapids. This offers a new angle not really available before, so I thought I would take advantage of the new perspective when I saw this train pass by the Perham Railcam. There is a chain link fence, that is a little tricky to get a camera lens through, but it still works. I am really glad of the how the shot turned out, and would definitely come back to this spot again.

The last time I photographed a train on this exact spot was a when a 31 hauled tank train did a one off run to Inverness on a sunny Sunday evening thirty years ago . Never thought I would ever do it again as it has been 8 years since the last freight movement on the branch which was T&T Freightliner 66's.

The landowner has paid for upgrading the branch mainly in the plant where new points have been installed allowing the loco to run around its train.

I have been told today this is to be MWFO working with two paths from Tuebrook.

Approaching Merry Hill Centre

On the trail to Twisted Lakes, Cradle Mountain Tasmania, the trail winds its way over Hanson's Peak. This windswept ancient hill top has been shaped by the wind and weather to the point where everything seems to have been miniaturized like a natural ancient bonsai garden. Walking there in the mist was an amazing experience.
