Materials Science and Engineering Professor Tim Chambers working with molten metals in the MSE Advanced Lab in the Herbert H. Dow Engineering Building on the North Campus of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor on Friday afternoon, February 17, 2023. The floor of the lab where the pour will happen has a layer of sand on it to protect it in case of spills.

The Advanced Lab is home to MSE 360, a course about structural materials used for building everything from vehicles to buildings and beyond. In the first half of the course, students learn standard alloys before moving into design. MSE 360 is an opportunity to gain experience in both theory and application.

She wanted to make her own lip balm after receiving a kit for Christmas from her grandparents. She enjoyed mixing the scents and putting them into little containers that she decorated with stickers. She gave some of lip balms away as gifts (it was Valentine's Day when she made these). Other gifts were placed under the "Valentine's Day Tree" that she came up. We all needed some cheering up after Casey had died the night before.

A squirrel is visiting the feeder that the girls made. It kept picking one kernel, eating it while holding it between its paws, running to the evergreen bush to finish eating, and then run back and do the same thing all over again.

Sometimes it would run a bit further to eat - to the pear or pine tree - but it always raced back for another kernel of corn.
