"Die 1,5 Tonnen schwere und über drei Meter hohe Bronzestatue steht auf einem, auf einer dreigestuften Granitbasis errichteten, fast 20 Tonnen wiegenden Marmor-Sockel. Das Standbild zeigt den Komponisten aufrecht stehend in Richtung London blickend. Bildhauer Hermann Heidel (1811 – 1865) gestaltete Händel naturalistisch als älteren, wohlbeleibten Herrn mit langer Perücke in zeitgenössischer Kleidung des 18. Jahrhunderts. Der überaus selbstbewusst wirkende Bronze-Händel trägt als Zeichen seiner herausragenden Stellung in der Londoner Gesellschaft einen Zierdegen. Er stützt sich souverän-entspannt an einem Notenpult auf, auf dem die Partitur des Oratoriums „Messiah“ (1741), eines von Händels Hauptwerken, zu erkennen ist. Auf der Rückseite des Notenpults ist eine kleine Frauenfigur als Relief eingearbeitet, die die Patronin der Kirchenmusik, Cäcilia von Rom, darstellen soll."

This is a composition blending two images taken at the same general area Writing On Stone Provincial Park. The Milky Way is a stack of 2 MW tracked images compiled in starrylandscapestacker and a single blue hour image of the hoodoo. Blended in Photoshop, my 2nd attempt at a sky replacement.
Amsterdam - Egelantiersgracht.
The history of hardware store (Handel in IJzerwaren) Gunters & Meuser goes back to 1826.
This building on the Egelantiersgracht, with a shop, a warehouse and a number of office rooms, was built in 1917 in the Amsterdam School architectural style and designed by P. Vorkink & Jac. Ph. Wormse.
Op de hoek van Egelantiers- en Prinsengracht in 1917-1918 tot stand gekomen HANDEL IN IJZERWAREN, genaamd Gunters & Meuser, naar ontwerp in Amsterdamse School-stijl van P. Vorkink & Jac. Ph. Wormser. Het betrof hier een winkel, een magazijn en een aantal kantoorlokalen.
Het magazijn en de kantoren van Gunters & Meuser zijn herbestemd tot bedrijfsruimte en woonruimtes. Op de begane grond blijft de winkel van Gunters en Meuser gevestigd.

The city took its name from the hill. Mandalay Hill is known for its abundance of pagodas and monasteries, and has been a major pilgrimage site for Burmese Buddhists for nearly two centuries. At the top of the hill is the Sutaungpyei iterally wish-fulfilling Pagoda. A panoramic view of Mandalay from the top of Mandalay Hill alone makes it worthwhile to attempt a climb up its stairways. To get a sense of Mandalay’s pancake-flat sprawl, climb the 240 metres hill that breaks it. The barefooted walk up covered stairways on the hill's southern slope is a major part of the experience passing through and around a colourful succession of prayer and shopping opportunities. The climb takes a good 30 minutes, but much longer if you allow for stops en route. The summit viewpoint is especially popular at sunset when young monks converge on foreigners for language practice.
Just outside the North of downtown, Mandalay Hill which summit is 240 m above the surrounding plain is the natural watch-tower for the visitors to watch sunrise or sunset over the city plains. Every one who arrived in Mandalay, the ancient capital of Myanmar, usually goes to Mandalay Hill, the landmark of Mandalay, which overlooks the city.
Mandalay is de op een na grootste stad van Myanmar en ligt aan de voet van de 240 m hoge Mandalay Heuvel. In vroegere tijden was Mandalay echter niet de hoofdstad van deze streek. De legende vertelt dat de Boeddha zelf een voorspelling heeft gedaan dat onderaan de Mandalay Heuvel een machtige stad gesticht zou worden. Echter pas in 1858 besloot koning Mingdon om gehoor te geven aan deze legende en ontmantelde hij de toenmalige hoofdstad Amarapura en verhuisde alles naar Mandalay. Vandaag de dag is Mandalay weer opgebouwd tot een machtige stad die de verbinding vormt tussen alle handel tussen Noord- en Centraal-Myanmar. Ook is Mandalay een religieus centrum, waar u duizenden pagoda’s, tempels en kloosters kunt bewonderen. De allerbelangrijkst is echter de Maha Muni Pagode, waar een kolossaal boeddhabeeld bedekt met een dikke laag bladgoud te bezichtigen is. Daarnaast is een beklimming van de Mandalay Hill, vlak voor zonsondergang een unieke ervaring. Via een trap van meer dan 1700 treden is deze beklimming een ware uitdaging, maar de beloning is groot. Vanaf dit hoge punt heeft u een uitmuntend uitzicht heeft over het landschap, waartussen de Irrawaddy rivier zich een weg kronkelt.
I made an amazing discovery yesterday which took me quite by surprise! Just a few yards from my office, in the Chapter House of Chester Cathedral, UK, I found this in a dark corner, under glass.
It's a facsimile of the original autograph score of G F Handel’s ‘Messiah’ (I‘m a bit of a GFH ‘junkie’!). The well-documented story is that on the way to the first ever performance of Messiah, in Dublin, Handel was delayed in Chester whilst waiting for his ship to set sail from the nearby port of Parkgate on the River Dee estuary.
So, he took the time to carry out some further work on the score, and this is a copy of that same score, in his own hand!
The words ‘Hallelujah’ from the famous chorus are seen here. Perhaps, in Chester, he was changing the words to ‘Ha-lle-lu-jah’ from, perhaps, ‘A-pple Crum-ble’, or ‘I love Cold-play’, or ‘Bi-lly Re-ed’! ;^)
