"Die 1,5 Tonnen schwere und über drei Meter hohe Bronzestatue steht auf einem, auf einer dreigestuften Granitbasis errichteten, fast 20 Tonnen wiegenden Marmor-Sockel. Das Standbild zeigt den Komponisten aufrecht stehend in Richtung London blickend. Bildhauer Hermann Heidel (1811 – 1865) gestaltete Händel naturalistisch als älteren, wohlbeleibten Herrn mit langer Perücke in zeitgenössischer Kleidung des 18. Jahrhunderts. Der überaus selbstbewusst wirkende Bronze-Händel trägt als Zeichen seiner herausragenden Stellung in der Londoner Gesellschaft einen Zierdegen. Er stützt sich souverän-entspannt an einem Notenpult auf, auf dem die Partitur des Oratoriums „Messiah“ (1741), eines von Händels Hauptwerken, zu erkennen ist. Auf der Rückseite des Notenpults ist eine kleine Frauenfigur als Relief eingearbeitet, die die Patronin der Kirchenmusik, Cäcilia von Rom, darstellen soll."

und beherbergt eine Sammlung über den
Komponisten und die Musikgeschichte von Halle.

Ilulissat - 50 km north of the Arctic Circle.
It lies at the tip of the peninsula between the fjords Kangerluarsuk Tulleq and Amerloq. The oldest traces of settlement date back to 2500 BC and belong to the Saqqaq culture.
In the 15th century, European whalers came to the area and traded with the Inuit, who had settled here in the meantime.

Es liegt an der Spitze der Halbinsel zwischen den Fjorden Kangerluarsuk Tulleq und Amerloq. Die ältesten Siedlungsspuren gehen auf das Jahr 2500 v. Chr. zurück und gehören zur Saqqaq-Kultur.
Im 15. Jahrhundert kamen europäische Walfänger in das Gebiet und trieben Handel mit den Inuit, die sich in der Zwischenzeit hier niedergelassen hatten.

Ruggiero, in Handel's opera "Alcina". It is a strange text. In spite of life's alchemy and magic, and even love, it turns out that oblivion is the only certainty we have got. Who would have thought that opera can be subversive? Fuji X-E3 plus portrait lens.
Side was a wealthy town with 40.000 inhabitants because of trade and slave trade. But the steady winds with sand formed high dunes and so the cititzens moved to the next town: Antalya-
For 1000 years Side was forgotten and cold save its ruins until 1900.

Side war eine wohlhabende Stadt mit ca. 40.000 Einwohnern wegen seines Handels und auch Sklavenhandels. Aber die stetigen Winde formten den Sand zu meterhohen Dünen und die Anwohner verließen Side, wechselten nach Antalya.
Für 1000 Jahre war Side vergessen und konnte seine Ruinen bis 1900 bewahren.
(Wir sind fast jedes Jahr hier, um den Fortschritt der Ausgrabungen zu bewundern - ähnlich in Pompeji - wie gerade erst verlassen)
This is a composition blending two images taken at the same general area Writing On Stone Provincial Park. The Milky Way is a stack of 2 MW tracked images compiled in starrylandscapestacker and a single blue hour image of the hoodoo. Blended in Photoshop, my 2nd attempt at a sky replacement.
Amsterdam - Egelantiersgracht.
The history of hardware store (Handel in IJzerwaren) Gunters & Meuser goes back to 1826.
This building on the Egelantiersgracht, with a shop, a warehouse and a number of office rooms, was built in 1917 in the Amsterdam School architectural style and designed by P. Vorkink & Jac. Ph. Wormse.
Op de hoek van Egelantiers- en Prinsengracht in 1917-1918 tot stand gekomen HANDEL IN IJZERWAREN, genaamd Gunters & Meuser, naar ontwerp in Amsterdamse School-stijl van P. Vorkink & Jac. Ph. Wormser. Het betrof hier een winkel, een magazijn en een aantal kantoorlokalen.
Het magazijn en de kantoren van Gunters & Meuser zijn herbestemd tot bedrijfsruimte en woonruimtes. Op de begane grond blijft de winkel van Gunters en Meuser gevestigd.

Enkele steden in Japan hebben nog een historisch tramnetwerk uit de tijd van wereldwijde opkomst van de tram.
Tijdens de kolonisering van Hokkaido vanuit het hoofdeiland van Japan, die samenviel met de openstelling van het land richting de buitenwereld, werd en veel snel groeiende steden een tramnetwerk aangelegd.
Zo ook in Hakodate, in het zuidelijke deel van Hokkaido. Deze strategisch gelegen havenstad groeide samen met andere havensteden in Hokkaido aanzienlijk door de internationale overzeese handel. In 1897 werd hier de eerste tramlijn aangelegd, en al snel in 1913 volgde elektrificatie van het net.
Nog steeds rijden de trams in Hakodate rond, op de lijnen 2 (rood), en 5 (blauw).
Op eerstgenoemde lijn 2 zien we op 22 december 2024 treinstel 8007 in een van de vele winterse sneeuwbuien onderweg richting Yachigashira (谷地頭). De serie 8000 bestaat uit 10 eenheden, en de 8007 is sinds maart 1997 in Hakodate in dienst.
