Some hand lettering I did for a friend's birthday card

Note the Re/Max sign in the background. Commercially reproduced realty signs are ubiquitous on the island and — like the highway warning signs — subtly erode the sense of Hornby's uniqueness.

This is a work in progress. This is soon to be posted as an illustration for a recipe on our food blog, seasoningforeverypalate.wordpress.com. I learned to do hand lettering in my high school art classes, but it has been a while. I have been working on this a little bit at a time, trying to get high-saturation color with colored pencil, which is slow and tedious. So I am fast-forwarding a few days to September 7th. The letters and background have been colored in, and work is starting on the border.

Interesting lettering choices. Contrast the carefully rendered "Wheelhouse" with the "ATM" tacked above it. Give'r Dean'r!

Closer to the Ferry Terminal, the hand-lettering on the signs seems derived from actual typographic faces. Perhaps the sign painter got ahold of a Letraset catalogue like I did when I was a kid.

1. line spacing is too close together

2.the background of the chalk board is dirty, such as behind the word salad making it unprofessional

3 the word fries always starts with a lower case "f", and all other words start with an uppercase letter
