Stevenson University presented “The Draw of Hand Lettering,” a sweeping survey that features a variety of contemporary posters, prints, logotypes, and packaging that embraces the tactile and expressive qualities of hand lettering. The exhibition—comprising the work of more than 30 designers worldwide—is on display through Oct. 2 in the University’s School of Design Gallery located on the Owings Mills North campus.
I was the designer for a BBC book written about a five year project called Backstage. I laid out and illustrated every page. The book is available to download as a pdf, .epub version as well as orderable through BLURB to have and hold, in print.

This sign was cut and assembled from two 4 ft. x 8 ft. pieces of 3/4 in. MDO plywood. It has an oil enamel finish on all sides and oil enamels were used for the hand lettering. The sign is attached to 4 in. x 4 in. galvanized steel posts.

I really dig the precision of that hand-painted lettering. Lots of subtleties here, from the brush strokes to the splatterings of other colors. Check out the large version to see them better.
