Paschimottanasana (Seated Forward Bend) is a seated posture, in which the upper body is folded forward over the legs in order to stretch the hamstrings and the muscles of the back. The term is derived from three Sanskrit roots; paschima, meaning "back" uttana meaning "stretch" and asana meaning "seat" or "posture".

Firing up the hamstrings

We got back from Mevagissey in one piece (just about) I did the 5 hour drive back with a hamstring injury and worsening food poisoning the closer we got to home.

 

The next day, we opted for a lazy Sunday, making the most of the sun, and getting the washing and ironing started.....oh yeah, and Mum and Arthur went to pick up Fox :)

 

Check out the little guy! He's beautiful- a Malamute Husky mix, he is fun of beans and investigating everything :)

 

So far Reuben has had a day of ignoring him, today he let him get a little closer, but so far- the 2 night-times have seen Fox HOWL the night away in his cage :( As he is not yet clean, he has to stay contained, and he lets us know he is not happy! Its like listening to a child have a paddy.......

Terry Stephen Puhl (b. July 8, 1956 in Melville, Saskatchewan) is a Canadian retired professional baseball outfielder. He played all or part of 15 seasons in MLB, mostly with the Houston Astros. He is the head coach of University of Houston–Victoria's baseball team and manager of the Canada national baseball team.

 

Puhl was called up to the majors in July 1977, and never returned to the minor leagues. He was quickly installed as the club's regular left fielder, replacing Jim Fuller. He finished the 1977 season with a .301 batting average in 60 games.

 

The following year he was the sole Astro selected as a National League All-Star. In the 1980 championship series against the Philadelphia Phillies, Puhl set a then NL-championship series record with a .526 batting average in a losing cause, the best performance ever by a hitter in a play-off series (It has since been superseded). As of 2010, Puhl has the ninth-best for lifetime fielding percentage by an outfielder (.993). In 1981, he was named Canadian Baseball player of the year.

 

A pulled hamstring in 1985 and an ankle injury in 1986 reduced his playing time, but he returned in 1987 as an effective pinch hitter. In 1988 he hit a career high .303.

 

After Puhl's retirement in 1991, he was inducted into the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame in 1994 and to the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in 1995. In November 2006, Puhl was inducted into the Texas Baseball Hall of Fame.

Nate McLouth of the Atlanta Braves is rehabbing at the Mississippi Braves playing centerfield and nursing a hamstring strain. He aggravated it again in the 5th inning 8/30 and took himself out of the game.

Steps and Benefits of Paschimottanasana-The Forward Bend Yoga Pose..!!!

 

The phrase Paschim actually means west, Uttana manner stretched out and asana is pose. Here the phrase paschim (west) doesn’t mean the west facet instead it indicated the lower back of the frame. The back of body is referred as paschim right here. Hence a posture wherein returned of the frame or spine is stretched out is called paschimottanasana, the forward bend pose. It crucial to realize that even as bending forward it's far important to transport forward towards the feet, rather than down closer to the knees.

 

Benefits of Paschimottanasana:-

1. Stretches the whole backbone specifically decrease returned, hamstring and hips.

2. Massages and tones the stomach and pelvic organs.

3. Improves blood circulation.

4. Stretches and strengthens the calf and thigh muscular tissues.

5. Activates the spinal nerves.

6. Tones the arms.

7. Reduces stomach fats.

During Our LUG meeting one of our member Chris Perron

asked "will this support the weight of the body?"

He then suggested I to make sure i support the feet the most- once it can hold the weight then it's good to go.

 

This is my solution.

 

I added Lineal Actuators to as Medial Hamstrings.

These are adjustable. They will prevent the knee joints from bending unless I adjust the actuators.
