It was obvious (looking at the photos) that even at the halfway mark Jodie Williams had a serious problem. She pulled up with what looked like a hamstring injury, clearly in pain.

Seated One-Legged Forward Fold gives a nice stretch in the back legs, from the glutes, to the hamstrings then to the calves and is also a good stretch for the side body — from the armpits to the ribcage then to the hip.As with any hamstring stretch, practicing this asana will release low back pain.

Derry 16 mile Boston Prep, it’s the toughest course I’ve ever run, 16 miles of hills, the worst of which is Telegraph Hill which starts 10. 6 miles into the run and rises over 300 feet in elevation in the next 1.6 miles. I headed north today with two Colonial friends Dawn and Beth with plans to meet Joan’s sister Marty at Derry. Buoyed up by face book post from fellow Colonials on the trip up and the best weather of the three runs I’ve made, I got off to a good start. The trip up Telegraph Hill was tough and my hamstring muscles were burning. I managed to get back to a good pace for the last three miles and finished in 2:57:42 knocking a full 8 minutes off my previous best. . I really believe that the 16 miles of Derry are tougher than the 26.2 of Boston. Finish photo by Marty

31 MAY 14

I've said it a million times...I don't like pizza unless I personally make it, but today I had to break down and get this big ole thing. I hadn't been grocery shopping in a while and pain management has not gotten any better today so I just broke down an ordered some fast food pizza. I wish we had some better delivery around here, and some healthier options, but its only chinese or pizza. You'll notice no cheese and that's specifically because I can't handle cheese/dairy...yet another reason why I make my own pizzas if I have a craving and they too are cheeseless. I ordered all this because they had some kind of 899 special for the entire box vs. buying one pizza at 12.99, so I just bought the box. I was able to thankfully gum my way throught the sauced part of the pizza on account of my jaw still being out of place, but I couldn't chew any crust and the bread was too hard. The dessert sticks were goey though, so I got through 2 of those before my face was just too tired.

UGHHHHHH!!!!

Anyway, it rained hard again today. It was insane. I had to move my seedlings twice out of the storms way so they couldn't get drenched. My pepper is holding up well through all of this, hoping for it to bloom soon. I did have to tie down my sunflowers today which for a normal person would have taken like a minute but because I could barely move my arms or legs, the whole process took ten minutes for me to slowly idle side to side with the rope, then walk all the way round to one side, and then gently cast the rope towards the fence like a net, and then another five minutes later, I'd made it back around to the other side to actually tie it down. My wrist was on fire, my legs just didn't want to move and of course, if I dropped that rope there was no picking it up because of my knees and hamstring. Sucked balls for sure! Just sucked, but I got it done and not a minute too soon because the rain fell hard after that and they were swaying just as hard even tied down, but they stayed upright this time.

Saturday we warmed up with Trainer Allyson's "Squat Flow" a variety of movements based on the Squat that wake your body up.

FitStanley discovered his hamstrings and back were tight enough that he had trouble squatting.

Padottanasana meaning "intense foot stretch" is a great stretch for the calves and hamstrings, esp. to loosen hamstrings and addutors.

Done without camera assistance and no remote can cause pulling of these muscles, so not advised. . . aka: get help

The following was the only place I could find a description regarding this pose. Used to be a favorite pose of mine, especially with regards to the extremely tight hamstrings. More on this asana :

I am going to post a picture of what I could do before 4 months in China. This is the furthest I have ever been. It looks like I am close, but you can see my technique is not good if you look at how much my body and back leg are rotated. I have never been able to do splits before, even as a child so I am hoping, with lots more trying I will get there.

I always love before and after shots. It makes the process disappear!

I can tell you a little about the process to get here: We did hamstring stretches for about 5 minutes three times a day. Most days we would practice splits. Our teacher would kneel on our back leg, hold us under the armpits and push our body towards the ground. You felt like you were about to vomit. The other thing he would do is get you lieing on your back, get a man to hold one leg straight to the ground whilst he held your other leg straight and pushed it as close to your chest as possible while making you count to 20 or 30. You feel like your body is screaming at you but you have to take your mind as far away from that screaming as possible. I hope it was in some way good preparation for child-birth!

There are many causes of stress, but relationships, work, money and children all contribute the greatest amount. Understand that there is no way to live 100% stress free. What can you do when the stress starts to overwhelm you? The following article will give you information that answers this question.

Do whatever it takes to control any stress you experience. Stress can cause many different health issues, like stroke, heart attacks, depression and stomach ulcers, just to name a few. Getting enough slumber will help you ward off unnecessary stress and reduce your risk for these maladies.

Smell certain things to reduce the stress in your life. Soothing smells such as bay, lavender, basil, or peppermint can help calm you down. Use a vial or any other sort of safe container to put the oil and rock salt in. If you begin to feel stressed, simply open your vial and smell the contents for a quick aromatherapy treatment.

A professional massage can help reduce stress. It is very common for people to carry their stress as extremely tight muscles in the neck, jaw, shoulders and back. Getting a great massage will not only relax your muscles, but it will also make you feel less stressed.

Stand next to a stationary wall, put your hands up against it and push really hard, keeping your feet pressed into the floor. The exertion and the stretch in your hamstrings are very effective in relieving stress.

While it is difficult to imagine an entirely stress-free existence, this kind of life is by no means a myth. Once you start to focus on the things that are causing you stress, you should be able to figure out what are your biggest triggers and begin to avoid these hot topics.

As previously discussed, stressful events can stem from any number of things. Unfortunately, several of these things are basically inevitable. By taking the advice given to you above, you will learn how to turn off the stresses of your life and make yourself happy. kellyravenelyoga.com/meditation-tips/mindfulness-and-mant...

it turns out all I really have is a (severe case of) pulled hamstring. I

have to stop using my Treo while walking at night!

For roughly 6 months of the year between June and November Zakouma National Park is almost entirely inundated with floodwaters at this time elephants would often disperse into the surrounding area of what is now the Salamat Faunal Reserve. During this time Arab horsemen from the Darfur region of neighbouring Sudan would come to hunt the elephants as they had done for perhaps several hundred years. Traditionally a group of up to 20 horsemen armed with lances would charge a herd aiming to separate out one of the elephants. A single horseman would then ride in front of this elephant to draw its attention and get it to pursue him allowing the other men to ride in and spear it from behind with their lances. They would aim for the elephant’s hamstrings in its hind legs which if severed would bring the animal down and ensure it could not get up again. Huge numbers of elephants were killed this way and in response the surviving herds in the region have learned that at the first sign of horsemen their best defence is bunch up into tight groups to ensure that no individual can be separated out.

Today this is no defence the horsemen are Janjaweed militiamen and members of the Sudanese armed forces and they come not with the lances used by their ancestors but with AK47s, belt-fed machine guns and rocket propelled grenades. This habit of bunching up into a single large herd has meant that the poachers can easily kill 50-60 elephants in a single attack by simply machine gunning the terrified animals as they try to escape. In 2005 an aerial count found 3,885 elephants in Zakouma and the surrounding area in under a decade the population was reduced to just 430 and had stopped breeding due to the constant stress. Since African Parks took over the management of Zakouma the poaching has been almost entirely stopped and the elephants are breeding again the population now stands at around 470.

After so many years of poaching most of Zakouma's elephants still generally stick together in a single big herd and often keeping to the thick bush making it easier to spot them from the air.
