Halloween is on a Saturday night this year [ only two weeks away]. I took pics of this praying mantis last weekend. I always take props with me to the farm...with halloween just around the corner I thought this pumpkin would be appropriate.
I didn't know which image I liked best, so am posting both [ see below]. Weather permitting, I hope to get out and take new pics this weekend.
Now this is in Germany and they aren't big on Halloween this is better than alot of stuff I see in the states
115 Pictures in 2015 #31: Halloween
No carved pumpkins at my house on Halloween, but I do have a couple of tin pumpkins that I can light up...
A charming Halloween window display at Faubourg Bistro in the French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana. Lovely place! We were always grateful to find good veggie burgers in the South (where they're not so much a priority, alas).

I'm making an executive decision! It's an Halloween Pennant! Life bug for me! WooHoo, thank you, Jesus, for such a grand bug day!
Halloween or Hallowe'en (a contraction of All Hallows' Evening), also known as Allhalloween, All Hallows' Eve, or All Saints' Eve, is a celebration observed in a number of countries on 31st October, the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows' Day. It begins the three-day observance of Allhallowtide, the time in the liturgical year dedicated to remembering the dead, including saints (hallows), martyrs, and all the faithful departed.
It is widely believed that many Halloween traditions originated from Celtic harvest festivals which may have pagan roots, particularly the Gaelic festival Samhain, and that this festival was Christianized as Halloween. Some academics, however, support the view that Halloween began independently as a solely Christian holiday.
Halloween activities include trick-or-treating (or the related guising), attending Halloween costume parties, decorating, carving pumpkins into jack-o'-lanterns, lighting bonfires, apple bobbing and divination games, playing pranks, visiting haunted attractions, telling scary stories and watching horror films.
In many parts of the world, the Christian religious observances of All Hallows' Eve, including attending church services and lighting candles on the graves of the dead, remain popular, although elsewhere it is a more commercial and secular celebration. Some Christians historically abstained from meat on All Hallows' Eve, a tradition reflected in the eating of certain foods on this vigil day, including apples, potato pancakes and soul cakes.
The word Halloween or Hallowe'en dates to about 1745 and is of Christian origin. The word "Hallowe'en" means "hallowed evening" or "holy evening". It comes from a Scottish term for All Hallows' Eve (the evening before All Hallows' Day). In Scots, the word "eve" is even, and this is contracted to e'en or een. Over time, (All) Hallow(s) E(v)en evolved into Hallowe'en. Although the phrase "All Hallows'" is found in Old English "All Hallows' Eve" is itself not seen until 1556.
A few more pictures of the Halloween decor, before I pack it away.
Time to put out the turkeys for Thanksgiving!
Just got back from this year's Halloween walk with Marcos. This year Katie joined us. Either the spirits were very active tonight or my camera is trying to tell me something. Either way, some of these shots do manage to capture a feeling even with the glitches. Hope you enjoy. And Happy Halloween!
I love Halloween, It's informal, a little counter culture & (IMHO) at it's best whaen it has a homemade & folk holiday approach.

These two knocked on my door for Trick or Treat.
They are my grandsons. On the left the skeleton is 4 month old Mason and on the right the dragon master is 5 year old Cameron. Between them they had managed to fill a small sand bucket full of sweets yum yum. :-)
Happy Halloween! In most years, Halloween season is big in Gettysburg. Numerous "ghost tours" or "ghostly walks in the cemeteries" are conducted by tour guides in period costumes. Actually the tours go on after dark all year in this site of the Gettysburg Battle of the Civil War, the deadliest battle on American soil.
In this picture, we were closed into the dark, damp basement of a bed and breakfast/restaurant that served as a hospital and sniper's tower in the 1860's Civil War battles. We were there for "ghost stories", and for some unknown reason the proprietors felt that this display, (the only lights in the basement) was spooky enough to harbor ghosts.
There were eight of us in the tour group...incredibly one nervous woman who sat in back, near a rattling steam pipe, "felt the presence" of a spirit. The ghost storyteller was pleased.

Il nome divenne in seguito Hallows’Even e poi Hallow-e’en e quindi Halloween.
Halloween or, more archaic, Hallowe'en indicates the eve of All Saints' Day, ie on October 31. The name comes from the contraction of the medieval name "All Hallows' Eve," where is the old term for Hallow Holy Eve and Eve means. The contraction may also result from "All Hallows' Even" Even where means evening, as in the Christian tradition, the feast day begins with Vespers (sunset) of the vigil. The name later became Hallow-e'en Hallows'Even and then and then Halloween.
