A snow shower literally the first of this winter left water spots on my lens and halios on a few of the photos, but after reviewing the photos I actually liked the effect.
There were scores of people out walking in the chilly air and falling snow taking in the feeling of the holiday season. I think its that warm Christmas feeling that makes these holiday photos so much fun to take and view.

I've kept reaching for the Seaforth III particularly often now that it's on the Ginault bracelet. Given the brushed-stainless 12 hour bezel, that combination of pastel blue with steel and steel and steel is nigh on irresistible.

This is a fantastic watch, easily the best I've seen at this pricepoint, ever. ETA 2824-2 movement. It's listed at 45mm, but it wears just a hair bigger than the 42mm Seiko Orange Monster (I believe this is mostly due to the curves of the case sides and lugs - it hugs the wrist perfectly).

In 1873 kwam Max Büttinghausen uit Duitsland naar Amsterdam en zette daar een fotoatelier op, dat tot grote bloei zou komen. Ruim vijftig jaar lang was het fotografisch atelier 'Max Büttinghausen' gevestigd in Amsterdam. Daarnaast waren er nevenvestigingen in Utrecht en in Godesberg (Duitsland). Zijn zoon Ernst nam het bedrijf na de dood van zijn vader over en zette het voort onder dezelfde naam, 'Max Büttinghausen'. Het foto-atelier zat hier in de periode 1895-1900, waarvan de gevelornamentiek geïnspireerd is op de Art Nouveau. En al heeft het gebouw meerdere bestemmingen gehad, het houdt altijd de herinnering in ere aan de bouwheer en de oorspronkelijke functie van het gebouw; Max Büttinghausen.
Gerrit van Arkel (1858-1918) was de architect van 'Helios" (naam van dit pand). "Helios" was het eerste gebouw, dat Van Arkel in de Art Nouveau stijl bouwde. Het ontwerp oogste veel lof en werd ingezonden op de Wereldtentoonstelling in Parijs in 1900, waar het een bronzen medaille werd toegekend.
De voorgevel bestaat uit wit gepleisterde baksteen met uitzondering van de begane grond. De Art Nouveau is herkenbaar in de asymmetrische gevelopzet en uit het brede gebogen lijnenspel van de deuren, ramen en consoles.
De opvallende geveldecoratie bestaat uit reliëfs en kleurige versieringen en opschriften in mazaïek. De voorstellingen zijn een zinspeling op de levenbrengede kracht van "Helios", de zonnegod naar wie het gebouw is genoemd. De bloem- en pantmotieven, waaronder veel zonnebloemen zijn in hun sierlijke stilering geïnspireerd op voorbeelden van de toen populaire Engelse 'Arts and Crafts Movement". De twee elegante vrouwen in lange gewaden, die naar respectievelijk zonnebloemen en fruitboom reiken, zitten op de gevel aan het Spui. Op de borstwering van de tweede verdieping zijn uilen uitgebeeld en in de topgevels wederom bloemen, geflankeerd door de naam van het gebouw. Aan de zijde van de Vetboogstraat (tegen over het Maagdenhuis) staan een reeks rozetten. En een groot mozaïektableau met het opschrift "Zum Barbarossa" aangebracht. Tot de overige verfraaiingen van de gevel behoren reliëfs en de smeedijzeren hijsbalken in de vorm van een mystisch dier en een windvaan met de initialen van Max Büttinghausen.
