It was pretty cool to still see some snow on top of Half Dome over a month after the last snow storm. The river was flowing pretty smoothly right now and I was able to get some nice reflections off of the water.
The roads were clear and made for a nice weekend drive. There is still a lot of snow on the ground and not a lot of people here to fight for the great views. I sure hope we get another storm soon to add to this snow though.

A medium-sized dark-backed albatross with pale underwings outlined by a narrow dark border and a dark notch in the armpit. The adult has a whitish head with grayish cheeks that give it a “white-capped” appearance. The gray-green bill has a yellowish tip to both mandibles. Juveniles are grayer on the head with gray bills. The species breeds on islands off Tasmania and New Zealand but disperses widely across the southern Oceans between 15 and 60°S, where it is a frequently encountered pelagic seabird. Similar albatrosses have a dark-tipped (not pale-tipped) lower half to the bill, and Salvin’s Albatross has a pale gray head and Chatham Albatross a slaty-gray head, further differentiating them from White-capped Albatross. Juveniles of these three are very difficult to separate. (eBird)

By far the most frequently seen albatraoss of our trip. Usually seen gliding effortlessly over the ocean, this one decided to join the fun of our albatross hunt. He is one of the four species that we found that day.

The mini-park (half of it in view here) was supposed to be built more than a decade ago. A Berlin developer made plans with Bamberg city and the Bavarian state that envisioned the six-storey condominium apartment buildings on the perimeter of Erba Park (then a state horticultural fair). And the mini-park would be in the middle of the condominiums. Things did not go as planned. Some of the construction firms went broke, the developer died, a huge mound of construction-related earth in the mini-park area was fenced off for years. Funds were tied up in negotiations with the city and then in court proceedings. A decade later, they have finally sorted it all out. The little park is being built. [DSC04760_lr_3000]

The Santa Fe Railway is my second favorite heritage Class 1 railroad. I became a big ATSF fan, and made regular trips from my home in Provo, Utah to Flagstaff, Arizona (9.5 hours and 475 miles at 55 mph) to reach the high iron of the Transcon each spring and fall.
My Santa Fe coconspirator, the late Jim Aldridge and I would be trackside by sunrise, often beginning our day at Denny's followed by an 11 mile drive east of town to Cosnino. By mid-morning on October 3, 1988, we had already photographed half a dozen trains.
Santa Fe Railway 9553, an SF30C rebuild, leads C30-7 and SD45-2 models at milepost 331.1, between Cosnino and Darling. The roster of locomotives wearing the defunct SPSF "Kodachrome" scheme were thinning, and we were pleased to catch one leading.
