Mesh material will be much finer weave than the poor drawing rendering. Nothing is to scale in drawing, but the mesh area will follow the actual door opening to the hack. Note the handles positioned at the hack fender in this photo. I may do something similar, as I don't need the grab bars in the back, since I have removed the rear rack and pillion seat. This modification of the hack door cover/skirt was sent for evaluation to see if it can be done okay and cost.

SFI Must Stop Justifying Flouting of JNU's Highest Dcmoca·atic Institution of UGBM! 3.3.07 H~l~ . VG BM Against Sus pen~ions, Proctorial Witch-hunt and Violation of Minimum Wage Laws! estcrday, the reqUtsrnoned _UGBM which had been convened on March 2 was calkd off in a dictatorial and unconstitutional mann r b} th IN _U Prest~en_t. The JN U.S.U President is yet to come out with any public explanation for his shameful act. But su_bsequentl}, h~s organr_satron SFI has jeered at the very idea of the requisitioned UGBM, especially the demand for scrap~tng of Proctonal En~u try. AI SA congratulates the students of JNU who by joining a historically massive Protest March last mght had as erted agatnst SFl 's shamele s sell-out to JNU administmtion. .

We would like to ask the JNUSU President and the SFI some questions: .

Most ~GBMs in JNU have started in the evening -after collecting ofquorum signatures all day. At all UGBMs in JNU, the mtke an~ tent etc... are usually set up at lOam itself, and repeated public announcements are made calJing .

students to stgn the quorum. On March 1, why was the mike set up as late as 4 pm, after a written appeal by the JNUSU VP and General Secretary? . .

.

The S~l and the JNUSU Pr;;:sident claim that 'quorwn was incomplete' and quorum signatures collected by certain counctllors and Office bearers from AISA could not be admitted because they were collected from KC and various hostels and were therefore 'invalid'. But we only have the JNUSU President's word for it that the signat.res colletted for quorum _were 'invalid' or 'inadequate' -a President who had ·already displayed· his bias against the UGBM by violati'l\g the Constitutional rule of calling it within 48 hours of receiving the requisition, and then trying to turn it forcibly into an EUGBM in order that extra quo-rum qould be required and 2/Jrds majority to pa sa resolution. If this precedent is upheld, won't any JNUSU President i~ the future, feel free to use the a me logic of' invalid' quorum (something no common student can verify) to dismiss UGBMs that he is politically opposed to holding? .

.

.

Acc~rding to the JNUSU Constitution, i n't it true that it is tit~ General Secretary who keeps the quorum, not tbc President? How could the Pr.esident usurp the role of collecting quorum sheets and counting quorum? .

.

· Who, then, gave the Presid·ent the right -to walk away with the quorum sheets or declare certain signatures to be 'invalid ', without even bothering to consul.t the General ·Secretary? .

.

.

lsn 't the UGBM jointly convened by the President and the General Secretary? How can the President 'call off' a UGBM unilaterally be[ore it has even begun? His discretion as the 'Chair' is valid only afier the UGBM begins. .

.

.

The SFI claims that there was no students' support for the agenda of scrapping Proctorial Enquiry. Well, if so, why did the JNUSU President from Sf! fear facing a UGBM on that agenda? Why scuttle the UGBM on a flimsy ground that hundreds ofsignatures on the quorum sheet were 'invalid'-something no one can verify? The correct democratic way for SFI and the JNUSU President to prove students' 'lack of support' for the demand to scrap Proctorial .

.

.

Enquiry would have been to d efeat it on the floor o(the UGBM; by mobilising; hundreds of students in (11vour o{thc Proctorial Enquiry. Why did the SFI and JNUSU President lack the coura2e to do this, and run away by the hackdoor flouting democracy aitd constitution? .

The JNUSU President is accountable to the students. It is a shame that for the first time in JNU's history, the JNUSU President could unilaterally refu se to hold a UGBM called for by the student community. This Is a dangerous precedent. It is students' right to requisition a UGBM (even to call for impeachment of the President) that is a afeguard and guarantee of this accountability. No President can call off a UGBM just because he or his organisation find it politically embarrassing. Remember, just last year, the JNUSU President from AISA convened a UGBM that was requisitioned by NSUI and ABVP demanding her impeachment. If studer:ttf power to cal! for a UGBM against the stance of JNUSU .

President is weakened, it will make the post of President beyond the scope of public accountability. .

Today, the 15 retrenched electricity workers have been taken back on the job -this is a success for their movement and for .

.

the students' pirited and determined support. But students and karmacharis continue to be suspended. The continuance of .

the Proctorial Enquiry will only allow the Administration to selectively penalise and politically victimise individual students who .

participated collectively in a JNUSU~Ied. p~otest. ·students continue to get letters from the Proctor's Office asking them to .

.

appear on dates next week. In order to decide whether or not the JNUSU should cooperate with the Enquiry, and give .

evidence against common students and activists of rival organisations, we need a UGBM urgently. .

Workers on campus continue to be paid far less·than the minim um wage, while JNV Administration continues .to justify it.and . .

accuse students who demand implementation ofthe minimum wage law, of "scaring offcontractors" and "disrupting construction .

.

WOI~k". .

Faced with the wrath of the tudent. at their undemocratic and anti~student stand, SFI has laughably warned the Administration to scrap suspensions by Monda~ or else 'face the wrath of students'! If we want a united movement against Administrati~n's crackdown, we need a UGBM mandate to settle the issue to tel! us whether the struggle is to be restricted to suspens10ns alone or Proctorial ·Enquiry nd workers' minimum wages too. We dernand that the-JNUSU -President stop flouting the will of the student commuuity (which was shown in the massive Protest March last night), and hold a UGBM on the following agenda al the earliest: .

.

Withdrawal of the Suspension.> .

.

.

Scrapping of Proctorial Enquiry .

.

.

Setting up a mechanism to ensure payment of legally mandated minimum wages to workers on JNU campus sd/-Awadhesh, President, AI SA, JNU sd/-Mobeen Alan:t, Vice-President , AISA. JNU .
