Ben Templesmith is a New York Times best selling artist and writer most widely known for his work in the comic book industry where he has received multiple nominations for the International Horror Guild Awards as well as the industry’s top prize, the Eisner Award. He also won a Spike TV Scream Award.
As a creator, his most notable works have been 30 Days of Night (which spawned a major motion picture) and Fell. His other projects include the critically acclaimed serial Wormwood: Gentleman Corpse, as well as Welcome to Hoxford, and Singularity 7, all of which he also wrote.
He has also worked on the Star Wars, Doctor Who, GI Joe, Army of Darkness, Silent Hill and Buffy: The Vampire Slayer properties and produces art and design for music bands, dvds, toys, and film concept work.

Isn’t it true we all would wish for increased productivity & efficiency?! I listened yesterday to a TED talk on productivity (via Michael Hyatt’s blog | btw… one of my favorite blogs!!) & the presenter, Jason Fried, argued that “Work doesn’t happen at work.” I was intrigued & it led to a bit of introspection & evaluation. Generally speaking, I’ve somewhat always been a very organized person. From childhood when I would arrange my Hotwheels according to Make/Model, even to college, when my roommates joked about the organization of my closet or checkbook register… some laughed as I pulled the pocket calendar out of my back pocket & could track time & expenses. I’m not sure what to call it but people have always pointed out that I possess the ability to simplify complex matters… whether it be design, home organization, business principles, etc. In any case, I’m grateful to God… yes, even for OCD!
Running your own business is complicated, heck, running your own life is complicated. There are dozens of wonderful tools for personal & business now available for each of us… Evernote, Dropbox, Things, ShootQ & Pictage (for you photographers), & etc. For the most part, I use each of the above, yet, what I’ve found to be my “must-have” tool of choice, is my Moleskine. It’s no over-statement, I love my Moleskine. Without it, I feel naked… or brainless. It’s my control center in many respects.
I’ve been using a Pocket Moleskine for several years & decided for 2011 to customize it according to my needs, aka “hack.” There are dozens of excellent Moleskine Hack articles online, among my favorite is the comprehensive article by Freelance Switch here. Inspired by David Allen’s book, Getting Things Done, many geeks like myself (it’s true, I am!) are using the systems he mentions to be more productive & organized. I thought I’d share a few of the customizations I made to my Pocket Moleskine. Cheers to an organized life!!

So, the main news headlines in the UK is the phone hacking saga of press reporters.
Did they hack the phones of murder victims and their families?
Did they hack the phones of celebrities?
One thing its made me realise is that I'd make a very bad reporter.
I really don't care that much about celebrities
and I can't for the life of me imagine what gossip I'd get out of phone hacking the families of murder victims.

Hacker: "originally, someone who makes furniture with an axe", according to The Jargon File.
I think this shutter was made by a hacker... who use the axe to paint it, too.
Since the first 7 points of the hacker definition can also be used to describe myself, I bought this fancy toy to restore the original hacker work. After all, a sander called "Mouse" is perfect for a hacker... the problem is I'm always trying to turn the wheel ;-)
I've a heavy duty sander (8 kg!) which is good to sand the keel of an aircraft carrier (if you can find a wood one), but it is not very appropriate for small details.
I've seen this small sander at our local version of Home Depot for 35 euro, but it was out of stock and the clerk suggested me to visit the other shop, 50 km away. Before to waste a couple of hours and 7,50 euro of gasoline I asked him to check the inventory on their network, and he stared at me just like I've demanded a spare hadron collider. So I came home, check on eBay and found the same sander in Rome for 1 euro less, shipping included.
Next time I'll check eBay before to go to the shop... so I'll save another 15 km.

Penso che questo scuro sia stato fatto da un hacker... che ha usato l'ascia pure per pitturarlo.
Visto che i primi 7 punti della definizione di hacker possono essere anche usati per descrivere me, ho comprato questo bel giocattolino per restaurare il lavoro originale dell'hacker. Dopotutto, una levigatrice chiamata "Mouse" è perfetta per un hacker... il problema è che cerco sempre di girare la rotella ;-)
Ho una levigatrice pesante (8 kg!) che sarebbe buona per levigare la chiglia di una portaerei (se ne trovate una in legno), ma che non è molto appropriata per i piccoli dettagli.
Ho visto questa piccola levigatrice in una negozio di bricolage a 35 euro, ma era esaurita e il commesso mi ha suggerito di visitare l'altro negozio della catena, a 50 km di distanza. Prima di perderci un paio d'ore e 7.50 euro di benzina gli ho chiesto di verificare l'inventario sulla loro rete, e mi ha guardato come se gli avessi chiesto un collisore di adroni. Così me ne sono tornato a casa, ho guardato su eBay ed ho trovato la stessa levigatrice a Roma, per 1 euro meno spedizione compresa.
La prossima volta guarderò su eBay prima di andare fino al negozio... per risparmiare altri 15 km.

10. jUploadr. One of the things about Flickr's bulk uploader tool (in my opinion) is that it is not very good. Especially on a Mac it is very slow to load, won't strip the .jpg titles from the names of my photos, etc. jUploader was developed by Steve Cohen and offers a better, faster, way to upload. You can enter in default tags, descriptions, etc. for all of your photos or you can easily select photos to bulk tag/descript before uploading to Flickr. jUploader is also our official uploader for Zooomr as well and if you want to upload your shots to Flickr and Zooomr, once you are done with one you can simply click on the other to send your photos there as well. jUploadr runs on Windows, Linux and OS X.
