as i waited to catch a glimpse of the Statesman Railtours 'Settle Carlisle circular' I heard the tracks signing to a tune which I recognised as that preceding the arrival of an HST, I pointed my camera through a gap in the palisade fence in anticipation, catching this shot of one of the remaining iconic sets which is still in use. 43208 leading 43239 through Copmanthorpe with the 1S51, 12.27 Plymouth to Edinburgh

When running through my files for scanning I had often passed shots of HSTs over in favour of loco-hauled or freight services. Now the HSTs have more interest shown in them I am adding a few. This was Rotherham Masborough on 27th May 1987 with an HST set working the 13:25 Newcastle to Plymouth service, 1V78. Note the young spotter with notebook in hand on the station to the right of the HST.

East Coast HST Power Car No 43208 'Lincolnshire Echo' speeds south with a York - LKX passenger service back in the winter of 2015.
43484 passes through Loughborough with the 1Z46 1500 Glasgow Central - Derby Litchurch lane. HST tour had visited Polmadie depot 150 open day that weekend 12/10/25.
An unidentified ScotRail HST forms a 1A77 Edinburgh Waverley - Aberdeen service, seen here crossing the Forth Rail Bridge.
The GWR liveried HST set is seen here rounding the curve at Great Cheverell working 1A81 from Penzance to London Paddington. Power car 43187 was leading with 43188 at the rear. 12/10/15.

Buttercups blanket the ground as a May beautiful morning gradually clouds over with rain threatening from the west. An EMT HST set is seen just after crossing the Welland at Harringworth with 1D16 0904 St Pancras International to Nottingham.

Blimey - couldn't find anywhere to take this photo so that there wouldn't be a shadow on it. Now that it's winter, I'll have to take my pictures earlier in the day.
HST 43251 waits to depart from Stainforth on the late running 1Q60 Derby-Gascoigne Wood test train, 9.12.24.
HST 43290 'MTU Fascination of Power', brings up the rear of the Saturday morning LNER service from Harrogate to Kings Cross, caught here just leaving Kirkstall Viaduct on the run around into Leeds. Standing prominent and familiar to many Leeds folk, but now looking a little battered, the Yorkshire Post/Evening Post Clock Tower, all that now remains of the post buildings.

A fitter walks away and leaves his two collegues peering at the back of HST power car 43021. The scene is at Swansea and I assume the HST has arrived from London Paddington.

A GWR 'Castle' set calls at Lostwithiel station with 2C51 Plymouth to Penzance, whilst it's nice to see the HST's still serving the South-West passenger comfort certainly wasn't high on the list when they were refurbished.
7th April 2004 when hst had engines that made a good noise and good start up, well for photographers. These was at a time when Midland mainline ran from Manchester Piccadilly to London
Packing some 4500hp HST power cars 43301 and 43285 are having an easy day as they approach Fairwood Junction forming 5Z43, the 08:20 Laira - Laira crew trainer (route learning in advance of planned diversions)
They had been up to Bristol Temple Meads via Cogload Junction, Westbury and Bath before retracing their steps
