Old friend (3.9.17)

___________________

While doing some photo work at Toa Payoh last Sunday for Charity Organisation Happy People Helping People, I noticed an old man sitting quietly to himself at a corner, feeding his drowsy, sleepy cat.

I went over and commented that the cat had beautiful eyes. Eyes the colour of faded afternoon sky. He couldnt help but agree.

He went on to share stories about the old cat and told me it had relatives running astray around the area.

It was clear that the man loved his cat dearly, the old cat that didn't have much time left, eternally sleepy in the still breeze of a lazy Sunday afternoon.

It was fate, 缘分, that made this friendship special, he said. Along with that, he couldn't help but share his quiet desire of wanting to see his old friend through in her sleepy last days.

A peaceful story of love and friendship on a gloomy afternoon reminded me about how slow and meaningful life can be.

Make: ASS (Altenburg-Stralsunder Spielkarten)

Serial: 5365/0

Title: Turner, In Seenot

Series: Exclusiv Puzzle

Pieces: 1014 (39 x 26).

Size: 48,5 x 70,5 cm.

Date: -

Bar Code: -

Origin: Western Germany.

A recent find that jumped to the head of the queue, mainly because this is an ASS puzzle but also as the only art image that I know of from this manufacturer.

As an artwork, generally build by colour working from light to dark. What could have been a difficult image was made somewhat simpler by the ASS piece arrangement, with alternate columns being formed of PHPH-HPHP and HHHH-PPPP pieces. Therefore I always knew what shape of piece was going to fit in any particular position and the rectangular shape of the pieces generally made for a choice of 2 orientations, rather than four.

The title is only given in German, and an English translation would be “In Distress”. However, the Tate Gallery calls this picture The Shipwreck and I’m inclined to believe that.

The underside of the box has a selection of other titles available from the manufacturer, but this is the same group as this previously posted picture so no further information about the range from this source.

Bought more jigsaws…

DONE: 915 puzzles (662027 nominal piece count). TO DO: 867 puzzles (1156811 nominal piece count).

Our 2nd HPHP walk.... To the wave organ. This public art sculpture was made from some of SF's oldest and only cemeteries, dating back to the early 1900's! Creepy!

DOI VISTA Carlo Arreglo during one of the monthly HPHP walks. These walks are part of a nine-county Bay Area collective called Healthy Parks, Healthy People Bay Area. I started this monthly walk at SF Maritime in conjunction with the non-profit San Francisco Senior Center because diversity is also about age and income and older adults and seniors are frequently overlooked.

Beth flipping me off yet again, and freaking out Chloe in the process.
