I just love how this photo captures Chance's boundless enthusiasm for life. He might be knocking on a bit and getting a few grey hairs, but give him a beach to run on (or a wood to run through) and a ball to fetch and he's the happiest dog on earth. Look at him here - he's wet, covered in sand and has just walked 3 miles up the beach - and still all he wants is someone to throw his ball.

Do you have possums living in your roof? Possums are nocturnal animals, becoming active while we are asleep. They can be very noisy – fighting, screeching and running along the roof. They can also leave behind the foul stench of urine and brown stains of secretion from their glands, which they use to mark their territory. Where to Start
The first step to getting rid of possums from inside your ceiling is find out how they are getting into your home. This will usually be under the eaves or through a gap under your tiles. A brown stain around any possible entry/exit point is a good indicator that the hole is being used. Once you have established how the possum is getting inside, you should patch up the hole while the possum is outside or patch it and set a trap inside so it can be caught and released.
Possums are usually sleeping during the day so you can wait until nightfall to patch up the hole, ensuring that the possum does not get trapped inside. Another option is to patch up the hole during the day and set a trap inside the roof to catch the possum so you can then set it free on the outside. Red apples are a good choice for trap bait. When patching up any holes ensure you use solid sheeting or timber, as possums can be very determined and will claw their way back through weaker materials. Take a look at the video to see just how aggressively they may try to get back inside!
How to Deter Possums from Coming Back
Once you have sealed up the possum entry point, you can take further steps to stop the possums trying to turn your house into their home in the future. The most obvious steps to take are to remove food sources and make it harder for them to get access to your rooftop.
Ensure your trash is covered properly and inaccessible and any pet food is inside or where possums cannot access it. If you have a compost pile keep it sealed up and pick any fruit that trees in your yard produce before the possums do.
Cut back trees that are growing near you home, so possums don’t have easy access to your roof. You can also put spikes along fences to keep them from using these as a highway.
Some other ways to deter them are:
Possum sprays – Nurseries, hardware stores and supermarkets stock a range of possum deterrent sprays, or you can make your own. Research online the most effective ways to do this.
Spotlights – These can be aimed onto trees where possums tend to frequent. Possums do not like bright lights so this will deter them.
Build a Possum Box – A possum box will give them all somewhere to live that isn’t inside your ceiling.
