An Overview of the Major Types of Lawn Grasses
While selecting lawn grasses, you should go for those that thrive in the local climate and area conditions like sun or shade. Choose the most appropriate one keeping in mind the needs of the entire family, including pets, adults and children. There are a number of varieties and here is a look at the major ones.
Bermuda
Bermuda shows aggressive growth and hence is wonderfully resistant to weeds. But this trait can often make it a dangerous invader of flower beds. This turfgrass is extremely resistant to drought and wear-and-tear. For a green lawn in the winter season, go for overseeding with rye.
[aawp box="B002BWUW8A"]
Bahia
This tough variety is great for a hot and humid climate. The rough texture enables it to bear with heavy foot traffic conveniently.
[aawp box="B002JGT4RS"]
Centipede
This one is a low-growing, tough variety which requires a little amount of maintenance, and is apt for acidic soil. Compared to most turfgrasses, it has a rougher texture but offers great resistance to pest and weeds.
[aawp box="B00ARYORQC"]
Bluegrass
It grows in comparatively cooler areas and can create a beautiful lawn with good soil, sunlight, and regular water supply.
[aawp box="B001Q1QZWY"]
Perennial Ryegrass
It germinates rapidly and can control an optimum amount of foot traffic. It is a common supplement for grass mixes of the cooler seasons, and for warm-season lawns, it is the “wintergreen” overseeding option.
[aawp box="B003AYYCZ2"]
Fescue
This again has several subcategories such as creeping red fescue, chewings fescue, fine fescue, tall fescue and hard fescue. Cold winters are great for all varieties, while the tolerance for shade, drought, wear and heat varies. They grow wonderfully with regular aeration and fertilization.
[aawp box="B00AUO5Y7A"]
Zoysia
Warm and sunny weather conditions along with a properly drained area are perfect for zoysia. Good amount of care is required, but it does pay you back with a luxurious lawn.
[aawp box="B00ARYRY1W"]
St. Augustine
This grows well in sandy soil and warm climates. Contrary to other warm-season varieties, the blue-green color reveals itself even in fall.

I've been wet shaving for about a year now, and making time lapse videos for about 4 years now. Today I've combined both of them into a time lapse video about wet shaving.
I realize the steps might be a little ambiguous, so here they are in more detail:
Step 1 - Trim the Bulk: I started with two months of beard growth. It'd be silly to try and take that all off with a safety razor. I used a beard trimmer to remove most of the hair on my face.
Step 2 - Use a Fresh Blade: I had been using my existing blade for a while to keep my neck and cheeks tidy. For a major job as this I decided to use a fresh blade.
Step 3 - Soak the Bowl & Brush: Soaking the brush makes sure all the hairs get nice and saturated with water. Soaking the bowl will help you make a nice warm lather. I soaked them both in hot water for about 5 minutes.
Step 4 - Prep the Face: I generally shave right out of the shower, and in my opinion that is the best time. But, for this video I didn't take a shower before hand, so I soaked a towel in hot water and let it set on my face for 5 minutes to open up the pores and hair follicles.
Step 5 - Make the Lather: I made a "super lather" consisting of Proraso shaving cream and Col. Conk Glycerine shave soap. Watch for the nice peak so you know your lather is ready!
Step 6 - First Pass - With the Grain: The first pass should go with the grain on your face. I mixed up my hand signals on this one and the "against the grain" pass. Remember, don't apply any pressure! The weight of the safety razor should be enough!
Step 7 - Second Pass - Across the Grain: The second pass should go across the grain on your face.
Step 8 - Third Pass - Against the Grain: The third pass should go against the grain. Remember, no pressure!
Step 9 - Fix Any Rough Spots: Apply more lather to any rough spots that might need a 4th going over. I had to go over my chin and upper lip a couple of more times.
Step 10 - Cold Water Rinse: Close up those pores with a splash of cold water!
Step 11 - Blot Dry: Don't wipe your face dry, you'll make it angry and irritated!
Step 12 - Aftershave Balm: Apply some aftershave balm or cream. Don't use anything alcohol based, it'll burn and make your face unhappy!
Step 13 - Success!: Baby Bottom Smooth (BBS) shave! Hooray!
Materials Used:
Razor: Edwin Jagger EJ89L
Blade: Israeli Personna
Brush: Edwin Jagger Best Badger Hair Brush
Cream : Proraso
Soap: Col. Conk Glycerine Soap
Aftershave: Neutrogena Razor Defense

who once meant a great deal in one's life,
no longer does?
i was roaming around my old global classroom this afternoon. the back chalkboard was decorated with several quotes, and this was one of my favorites:
"personally, i'm always ready to learn, although i do not always like being taught."
fact #72: if my name wasn't stacy, it'd be valerie. mama told me so. valerie magallon...?
The hot summer experienced in these parts has killed off so many things but these echinacea grown from last years saved seeds have positively thrived. A view of things to come :-)

Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness
Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun
Conspiring with him how to load and bless
With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run;
To bend with apples the moss'd cottage-trees,
And fill all fruit with ripeness to the core;
To swell the gourd, and plump the hazel shells
With a sweet kernel; to set budding more,
And still more, later flowers for the bees,
Until they think warm days will never cease,
For Summer has o'er-brimm'd their clammy cells. --To Autumn. by John Keats

I did this on Oct.22 2011, I use this lens very frequently and it still works well.
Things you need to know:
You'll not touch any optical part, dirt free room is not necessary(Good). However you might lost your warranty if you did this (Bad). Be very careful to avoid any permanent damage to the machinery (even worse).
Tools you need is screw-driver ( I used #9, cross) and nipper, additionally, a piece of wear-resistant material(like polyvinyl fluoride, i cut from a piece of gasket), 2mm*3mm with 1mm thick.
Suggest you keeping the lens body and parts in same orientation when they're removed.
Take apart the lens from the end, as the sequence I marked in picture.
Part#1, mount
Remove part#1 is easy. Record the orientation of mount.
Part#2, aperture interlock
Remember how you removed part#2 will save a lot of troubles when installing it back. You must switch the position of aperture interlock stick as well as the aperture ring (Part#4) to f22.
Part#3, aperture interlock
Easy work, record the orientation.
Part#4, aperture ring
*Please be very very careful when you removing part #4. there is a tiny steel ball stuck between aperture ring and body. (it jumped out and spend me 10 minutes to find it back, luckily) it makes the tick-tack when you change the aperture stop. remember to install it back!
Part#5, Red ring
Part#6, DoF scale
Easy work, record the orientation for installing it back. If you forgot, you can find some pictures for this lens on internet.
Please go to part 2
Tarn Hows is an area of the Lake District National Park, containing a picturesque tarn, approximately 2 miles (3.2 km) northeast of Coniston and about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) northwest of Hawkshead. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the area with over half a million visitors per year in the 1970s and is managed by the National Trust.
The Tarn Hows area originally contained three much smaller tarns, Low Tarn, Middle Tarn and High Tarn.
Tarn Hows was designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest in 1965.
The National Trust have made a number of more recent changes to the area including moving the car parks to a less obtrusive place in the 1960s and general footpath and road improvements to minimize the damage caused by the visitors. In May 2008 a building designed to harmonise with the landscape was opened, providing toilets and an information display under a sedum green roof.

It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the area with over half a million visitors per year in the 1970s and is managed by the National Trust.
Tarn Hows is fed at its northern end by a series of valley and basin mires and is drained by Tom Gill which cascades down over several small waterfalls to Glen Mary bridge: named by John Ruskin who felt that Tom Gill required a more picturesque name and so gave the area the title 'Glen Mary'.
The Tarn Hows area originally contained three much smaller tarns, Low Tarn, Middle Tarn and High Tarn.
Wordsworth's Guide Through the District of the Lakes (1835 edition) recommends walkers to come this way but passes the tarns without mention.
Until 1862 much of the Tarn Hows area was part of the open common grazing of Hawkshead parish. The remaining enclosed land and many of the local farms and quarries were owned by the Marshall family of Monk Coniston Hall (known as Waterhead House at the time). James Garth Marshall (1802–1873) who was the Member of Parliament for Leeds (1847–1852) and third son of the industrialist John Marshall, gained full possession of all of the land after an enclosure act of 1862 and embarked on a series of landscape improvements in the area including expanding the spruce, larch and pine plantations around the tarns; demolition of the Water Head Inn at Coniston; and the construction of a dam at Low Tarn that created the larger tarn that is there today.
By 1899 Tarn Hows was already an important beauty spot. H.S. Cowper mentions "Tarn Hows, beloved by skaters in winter and picnic parties in summer. Here comes every day at least one charabanc load of sightseers from Ambleside or Windermere". A wooden boat house that was still standing in the 1950s at the south east corner of the tarn probably dated from this period. In 1913 G.D. Abraham said "Tarn Hows is set wildly among larches and heather slopes, more like a highland lake than the other waters in Lakeland... more suitable for pedestrians than motorists".
In 1930 the Marshall family wanted to sell their 4,000 acres (16 km2) Monk Coniston estate. Beatrix Potter's husband, William Heelis of Sawrey, was solicitor for the Marshall family and so was aware of the possibility early on. One of the farms within the estate had previously been owned by Potter's great grandfather and so Beatrix was interested in buying the estate as a whole rather than allowing it to be sold off piecemeal for tourist development; however, she could not afford the whole £15,000–£18,000 asking price without selling other properties that she wanted to keep. Neither the National Trust nor the Forestry Commission could obtain the whole sum quickly enough and Potter's mother would not lend her the money. Potter wrote that 'Tarn Hows is such a favourite walk that on the face of it you might think it was a case for public subscription; but it would not work. My mother is known to be so wealthy that nobody would subscribe to help me!'
Potter and Heelis negotiated to buy the whole estate for £15,000, relying on the National Trust to be able to appeal to the public to raise enough to buy back 2090 acres from her. During the period when Potter and Heelis owned the whole estate it was successfully managed by the two of them. The National Trust's appeal had raised nearly enough before the summer of 1930 and they bought most of the land from Potter – she donated the last part anonymously. When the Trust took over in September it asked Potter to carry on managing the land on its behalf. Bruce Thompson, the National Trust agent for its properties in the north of England, wrote in The Lake District and the National Trust in 1936 that "The Tarns and its setting were given to the nation by Sir S. H. Scott in 1930 as part of the Trust's general scheme for securing a large part of the Monk Coniston estate. The gift was made in memory of Sir James and Lady Scott." Presumably he donated the funds to the appeal to buy this portion of the estate. The remaining half of the Monk Coniston estate was bequeathed by Potter in her will to the National Trust

Roseate Spoonbill ~ St. Augustine, Florida
The Roseate Spoonbill is a wading bird of the ibis and spoonbill family. This species feeds in shallow fresh or coastal waters by swinging its bill from side to side as it steadily walks through the water, often in groups. The spoon-shaped bill allows it to sift easily through mud. It feeds on crustaceans, aquatic insects, frogs, newts and very small fish ignored by larger waders. The Roseate Spoonbill nests in shrubs or trees, often mangroves, laying 2 to 5 eggs, which are whitish with brown markings. Immature birds have white, feathered heads, and the pink of the plumage is paler. They are extremely agile high in the treetops.
Local morning TV show "Wake Up Hanaly Corners" is featuring some new and old HC couples with a "How We Met" segment in the days leading up to Valentine's Day.
Meet our first couple, Samuel (Sam) Webb and Cassandra (Cassie) Lane.
Cassie: Well, a year and half ago, Carter-Winthrop Enterprises held a job fair as they were hiring a large number of people for opening due to their expansion project. We both attended the job fair.
Sam: Yeah, I saw her from across the room, and I was immediately attracted to her! Just look at her, she is gorgeous! I kept looking at her from afar hoping she would notice me too!
Cassie: Oh, I noticed him alright! I kept having this funny feeling that someone was watching me! Anyway, we were both whisked away to our interviews. When I came out, he was nowhere to be seen and I left wondering if I would ever see him again.
Sam: Same here. Anyway, I got hired!
Cassie: And so did I! But we were in different departments. Sam is an engineer and I am an IT tech.
Sam: But one day in the cafeteria, I looked up and I couldn't believe my eyes. There she was, as beautiful as I remembered her. So this time I wasn't gonna waste my chance and I grabbed my tray and moved quickly over to where she was. I plopped down right beside her, set my tray on the table and put my hand out and said "Hi, I am Sam and I am so happy to finally meet you!"
Cassie: I laughed and said: "What do you mean, finally?" He gave me this big ole grin and said, "Girl, I know you were looking at me at the job fair, just like I was looking at you! How 'bout a date?" I giggled and said: "Umm, well, my name is Cassie --- you buying?" We both laughed and went out to dinner 2 nights later.
Sam: Best first date of my life! I swear, we talked for hours. Not only was she beautiful -- er IS she beautiful, but she is also smart as all get out. Anyway, I knew at that moment that she was my forever girl.
Cassie (smiling widely): And he my forever guy! We have been together ever since.
Sam: And I don't see that ever changing!
Stunning Tarn Hows offers an accessible circular (1¾ miles) walk through beautiful countryside with majestic mountain views. A great place to walk and picnic, or to begin your wider Lake District countryside adventure. There are also rare Belted Galloway cattle and sturdy Herdwick sheep grazing by the tarn.
Tarn Hows is located in the low level hills between the villages of Coniston and Hawkshead and is ideal for a walk or cycle trip from either. It's a favourite with both regular and first-time visitors to the area and is popular with artists and photographers who love the setting and the views.

SO very much better LARGE and Black!
I have a dear friend that loves old barns....and in particular THIS old barn, which we pass on the way to work. When i was on my way home on Monday afternoon, i noticed that it looked particularly pretty with the sun on the front of it and Mama and Baby Cow standing there catching some rays....so i pulled over and rolled down the window and reeled off a couple of shots. ( It looks SO much prettier in the LARGE version....somehow flickr just has trouble doing justice to it... )
When she came into work today, she came looking for me and pulled me aside....”Susan”, she said, “my barn looks SOOOOOO pretty with the snow and the sunshine on it....” and before she could finish hinting, i told her i was one step ahead of her and had already taken the shot with her in mind!! She was so very excited....she purchased a shot of the local old stone mill that i did recently and wants this now to go along with it! She is busy recruiting jobs for me, because she loves my photographs....needless to say she has given me a huge boost, by being so enthusiastic about my work. She is working on getting a shoot for me of the Competition Cheer Squad, and the possibility of me doing memory books of the girls season for them.
Thought i would post this tonight to show you we are not under 4 feet of snow....tonight we expect to get ice. When i said NO MORE SNOW, i DID NOT mean ICE was ok. Live and learn!
Stay warm and dry! Found a post for the morning....because it will be WEIRD WEDNESDAY! ;)
Doesn't this Hawk Owl's expression seem to say, "Yes, I know how cool I am." It's like he knows how far I traveled just to take his picture and is secretly laughing at the fact that while he is all feathery and warm, I'm standing in the middle of a field, thigh deep in snow with the wind blowing 40 mph, just to catch a glimpse of him.
My owl trip was a ton of fun, even though we didn't see as many owls as we had hoped for. Of course we saw this beautiful guy, and we also saw some short eared and long eared owls as well. Amherst Island is the Owl capital of North America, but during the week i was there, many of the owls were on vacation! Still, I learned sooooo much from Chris Dodds (our workshop leader) and had a great time too!
Chris let me take some shots with his Canon and the 500mm lens which explains the exif data if you take a look. That was one huge lens!
Someone's a little upset I never hang out with the Pullip crew anymore (and I especially don't do anything with the Isuls D:). Don't worry! I still love you!
