The Queens Hotel stands directly in Lerwick Harbour worlds apart from any hotel where you may have stayed before. the spirit of relaxed freedom will strike you immediately. The renowned harbour-view restaurant has as its backdrop an ever-changing panorama of the island of Bressay. You can watch the drama of the harbour unfold as its mood changes from morning sunrise to evening sunset.
A hôtel particulier, in France and Belgium, is a type of stately residence, palace or urban mansion inhabited by a single owner or family and their servants. It crystallized as a typology in France in the 17th century, especially in Paris, but it changed compositionally and functionally over time. Until the end of the Old Regime, the French word hôtel had several meanings, however, at that time the retronym hôtel particulier appeared to specifically designate these private mansions.

When in Banff I recommend a visit and tour of this iconic "Castle of the Rockies." Amazing inside and out. With the Bow River flowing below and the river's falls just to the right in this frame and Mt. Rundle rising majestically across the valley there is much to admire around it as well.
"The hotel opened in 1888 by the Canadian Pacific Railway, as one of the earliest of Canada's grand railway hotels. The original wooden structure burnt down in 1926, the replacement structure was made up of a steel frame, clad in Rundle limestone.
The Banff Springs Hotel includes 757 guest rooms and suites spread throughout the hotel property plus 12 restaurants."

I appreciate you taking the time to look and for any comments, faves and suggestions.
Don't know if it is still possible to stay at this hotel in Nelson, Nevada. Nelson is supposedly a ghost town, but it appears a number of people live in the area. There is a firetruck parked nearby although I doubt it would be very helpful in the event of a fire.
Happy Truck Thursday!

There is something fascinated about old and abandoned buildings. The touch of time and weather on them usually makes them look like haunted and sometimes as you see them, you are wondering how they looked like on their prime days. When man abandons, nature takes over. And maybe this old hotel in Aigina is far from being considered a picturesque and good looking structure, but the peeling paint and its bright colors caught my eye. Oh and i see some windows too and guess what? today is Wednesday.. HWW everybody! stay safe.

We visited this curious ice hotel near Alta town in Norway, but no way to sleep in these cold temperatures!
An ice hotel is a temporary hotel made up of snow and sculpted blocks of ice. Ice hotels are dependent on sub-freezing temperatures, are constructed from ice and snow and typically have to be rebuilt every year. Ice hotels exist in several countries, and they have varying construction styles, services and amenities, the latter of which may include ice bars, restaurants, chapels, saunas and hot tubs.
Sorrisniva Ice Hotel, in the outlying area of Alta, has been rebuilt yearly since 1999. It is Europe’s northernmost ice hotel, as it is in the Finnmark region and is approximately 250 km from North Cape. The 2,000 square meter hotel has 30 rooms, including two suites. It is decorated with ice sculptures and ice furnishings, including lighting systems which enhance the different types of crystalline formations. Besides the bedrooms the hotel contains an ice chapel, ice gallery and ice bar where drinks are served in glasses made of ice. The ice sculptures at the hotel change yearly. To stay warm when sleeping, guests use sleeping bags that sit on top of reindeer hides.
